"Oh yeah? Well, Congress' rating is even lower!"

From TFA
...Further analysis of the data shows that being a Republican and a Fox viewer are related to negative opinions of the mainstream media. The overlapping impact of these two factors can most clearly be seen in the favorability ratings of network TV news, major national newspapers, and the daily newspapers that respondents are most familiar with. For all three, Republicans who count Fox as their main news source are considerably more critical than Republicans who rely on other sources.

Gee... ya think so?!?!

FARK really needs a DUH tag.

Oh, you might dislike the republicans, but the democrats are the scariest shiat to hit the airwaves in a long long time.

The republicans, you know what you're getting into. Big business, possible war.

The dems? Anybody's guess. Maybe we're PETA today and Environmentalists tomorrow, let's be anti-military the next, then claim that we're pro-gay-rights. After that, we'll be hawkish about Pakistan, and then we'll tell you that war is never a viable option.

That's why you guys lose elections. Well, and when you do win, you raise taxes and then you're so weak-kneed that you can't do any of the things you said you were gonna do if you got elected, so you lose the next one.

So, dislike away.

I came in here hoping to see PewPewKitty!

Topic? The GOP abandoned the roots of their party a long time ago, and you can only string "values voters" on for so long. Fortunately(?) not being able to afford milk seems to actually register on these peoples' radars.

So a party that does evil vs. a party that does nothing?

Hmm.... How long I got to think about it?

Corporate corruption and unnecessary war vs. clean air, civil liberties, and conscious military actions. Hmmm...

Wait, no one has posted the phrase "there's no hate like liberal hate" yet? Woah, you guys are slipping.

OMG! Look!

The democrats are beating the republicans by in favorability by a whole 13 points! HOLY SHIAT!

Erm...wait...1992, they were up by 16. And won a presidency because of Ross Perot! So, um, err...

Oh yea...nothing at all. Non-story?

Wow, you mean a party that isn't controlled from the top down, but from the grass-roots up, examples more diversity of thought?

And you ENJOY being a slave to the interests of big business and war profiteers, over the possibility that your fellow citizens, varied though their interests may be, might actually find themselves in control?

2007-08-14 08:34:18 PM
What do you expect? The GOP has had control of the WH, Senate & Congress for the past 8 years. Tables are turning, the Dems will have a rubberstamp for the next 8 years. Then we'll have the same result for a different party. Wash, rinse, repeat.

The sheer amount of logical contortions you had to go to in order to discount this information should, in and of itself, be all the homing in you need on your own partisanship and cognitive dissonance.

mrexcess: The sheer amount of logical contortions you had to go to in order to discount this information should, in and of itself, be all the homing in you need on your own partisanship and cognitive dissonance.

Cry me a farking river...did you see the way the poll was introduced on the page? "After six years of George Bush, right-wing control of Congress, neoconservative dominance, endless liberty-infringement and lawbreaking at home, and the Iraq War, what is the most disliked institution in America?" I just wanted to point out that the blog was being partisan in its presentation and making a big deal out of something that really isn't.

Then you have the balls to accuse me of anything with your incredibly non-partisan, objective post from earlier:

And you ENJOY being a slave to the interests of big business and war profiteers, over the possibility that your fellow citizens, varied though their interests may be, might actually find themselves in control?

Pot calling the kettle black? Or you being a hypocrite? I'm leaning towards #2 because I merely pointed out a fact whilst you flipped out on an anti-Republican, anti-Business, anti-Military rant that added nothing to the thread.

You FAIL so badly it's not even funny.

/puts on GOPophiliac hat

Oh, you might not like Republicans, but rather than offer a constructive solution to reform my party of tax-deferrals and big government, I'll throw some stuff out of my "magic librul devil bag". Democrats will rase taxes and use them to rape your wife. They'll shoot your dog then they'll hire PETA commandos who'll come in and make you marry and have gay sex with a cow. They'll rase more taxes then they'll let swarthy men come in and deflower your daughters because they took your guns away and forced your son to watch kiddie porn. GHEY KIDDIE PORNZ. Then they'll ban HETEROSEXUAL marriage and FOOD.

Cry me a farking river...

We should both be crying, because that kind of partisan-and-don't-give-a-damn mentality is ruining the nation we both share.

Pot calling the kettle black? Or you being a hypocrite?

Neither, I was using the words of an evident Republican, Roman Fyseek, but I think that argument can be backed up pretty soundly. Care to try me?

you flipped out on an anti-Republican, anti-Business, anti-Military rant that added nothing to the thread.

My words were nothing of the kind. Anti-big-business (aka corporations so large they collude with government) is not anti-business, in fact I'd argue exactly the opposite. Being anti-war (and, in particular, anti-unnecessary-war) is not anti-military, I certainly hope our leaders understand the difference!

And the fact that you think that being anti-war and anti-big-business is anti-Republican does little other than prove my point for me.

Shaggy_C: I'd also like to know where you find that question wording. This is a Pew Survey, and they're widely respected for their techniques. I have the questions, which page would I find that egregious quote on, exactly?

1) I referred to the article that the thread is about.
2) You can't read.
3) You are a troll.

ergo,
I'm done speaking to you.

2007-08-14 09:36:02 PM
The article this thread is about is about the Pew Survey, if you couldn't tell that from the fact that the headline begins with Pew Survey.

Why do I get the feeling that you're calling me names in order to avoid admitting that you completely misread the link, as if it's preface was the actual question from the survey (which it isn't).

As that level of incomprehension would, I would think, lead to an inability to feed onesself, let alone type, I can only assume that you're deliberately trying to deceive people. Shame on you.

OK, I got confused at your rant about the introduction to the poll...my bad, there. But why on earth does that matter? Are you new to Fark? Sometimes the really good news gets linked to from podunk local news outlets and crappy, partisan blogs.

I'm not interested in talking about the blog, I'm interested in talking about the Pew Survey, which shows the GOP one level down from bubonic plague in the minds of the public.

2007-08-14 09:56:05 PM
I actually don't mind individual Republicans--the freethinker conservatives actually have a lot of good ideas.

That said, the GOP as an organization has all the charm of a paper cut.

2007-08-14 10:08:25 PM
There's no excuse for the individual Republicans who are just coming to terms with things that the rest of the world knew four and five years ago. I mean, it took them until 2007 to realize the Iraq War was a ridiculous farking mistake and that this White House hates us for our freedom??? These are things any observant person knew in 2003!

The whole party -- the monsters and their enablers -- can all go to hell as far as I'm concerned.

2007-08-14 11:32:13 PM
And to think that less than a year ago, republicans were talking about their coming permanent republican majority. Or as it may more accurately be called, one party state. What's really interesting is how everyone is talking about the primaries and how many of them keep getting moved up. It's like America can't wait to be rid of Bush and perhaps his party.

I think a lot of it hinged on success in Iraq. If US troops had found WMDs and the insurgency had collapsed, Bush would have looked like a hero and a prudent leader.

Instead we get "Bush LIED!!!" and news like the 175 innocents murdered by Al Qaeda in Iraq just today. You can't hold a majority with that against you, no matter how good your original intentions.

2007-08-14 11:43:29 PM
All I hear is throw the Bum's out ! Congress that is.
If the Dems keep the House and Senate they won't be trusted with the whole banana.

People tend to want to protect their azz pocket and that azz.
The Dem's just don't have a better plan and a bad plan trumps no plan.
The Jury's still out on the new plan but new polls indicate the people want to have faith in the leadership deserved or not.
That Azz again.

Not that long ago, there was talk about the "End of the Democratic Party".

But it didn't happen.

It was just the right-wing using 9/11 as a catalyst to push the pendulum farther and faster to the right, thinking (erroneously, that they could keep it there.

But they couldn't. No one can.

And now, thanks to their effort, the pendulum is swinging to the left before it otherwise would and with more gravity behind it.

And someday, it will swing back to the right.

So you 28%, I know this is a scary time for you, but don't be scared. No one's going to kick you out or try to do away with you, and if they do, they'll fail.

Wait. Your time will come again.

Shaggy_C: I think a lot of it hinged on success in Iraq. If US troops had found WMDs and the insurgency had collapsed, Bush would have looked like a hero and a prudent leader.

But it didn't, in large part because Bush threw away all of the good advice he was given in order to hew to a narrow ideology, and then he completely botched the peace by staffing the CPA with ideologues who knew nothing of what they were doing. Ergo, Bush is an anti-hero and a terrible leader.

Instead we get "Bush LIED!!!" and news like the 175 innocents murdered by Al Qaeda in Iraq just today.

Because he did, and they were.

You can't hold a majority with that against you, no matter how good your original intentions.

It's called Democracy. We've been doing it a long time, although sometimes it looks like we are just figuring it out.
