Some Republicans are apparently trying to emulate the latter days of the Whig party they supplanted.

2007-08-14 11:07:44 AM
Any Republican that voted for the Medicare drug give-away can't be labeled as "conservative" any longer, so I'd vote for all of them.

2007-08-14 11:12:13 AM
Fed up with excessive spending, amnesty for illegal aliens, and weak positions on family values and abortion, conservatives across the country are frustrated that their voices have fallen on deaf ears.

But they still think Bush is doing a heckuva job....

2007-08-14 11:15:41 AM
So, they want 5,000,000 nutbags to play the role of the GOP. All-righty then!

Why not just start up the American Nazi Party again? They like to wave flags, attend rallies, and lock people up without due process. It'll be fun for the whole family.

2007-08-14 11:16:02 AM
I wish there was a version of conservatism that meant more than just "hating Libs" these days.

Oh well.

2007-08-14 11:27:46 AM
I think this guy really wants a "CINO" award.

Because "RINO" doesn't really make sense. All of those named seem to value political expediency over principle, and that is a defining R trait.

2007-08-14 11:45:10 AM
I can't believe how desperate the Republicans sound. I really don't think it matters what kind of fancy name you try to put on a turd sandwich, it's still going to be a turd sandwich. Do us all a favor and don't vote for the turd sandwich this time. You've created enough problems already by doing that in the last two Presidential elections.

2007-08-14 11:45:51 AM
RINO = You don't agree 100% with a bunch of FReepers.

Mordant: I wish there was a version of conservatism that meant more than just "hating Libs" these days.

That not completely true. They also hate the gheys and Mexicans.

Dissent degrades their surety. Cults rely on purity.

2007-08-14 12:45:45 PM
So it basically comes down to a Republican's stance on brown people, then?

2007-08-14 12:52:18 PM
Awww, evangelicals are so cute when they get their panties in a wad.

2007-08-14 12:58:44 PM
i too am dissapointed republicans aren't all racist idealogues!

Mordant: I wish there was a version of conservatism that meant more than just "hating Libs" these days.

Are you suggesting that there's no hate like conservative hate? :)

"I wish there was a version of conservatism that meant more than just "hating Libs" these days.

It exists, they're just so embarassed about voting for Bush that they're laying low til, I think, after New Year.

2007-08-14 01:01:42 PM
I'll support a rhino anyday.

If RINO = (Republican In Name Only)
Then

DINO = (Democrat in name only)

End If

So a DINO is named after the Flintstones pet....

After losing Congress in the 2006 election, and with the Party possibly facing the loss of the White House in 2008, conservatives are less than enthusiastic about their representatives and potential presidential candidates in the upcoming elections,

Not sure that's going to happen if California changes their electoral vote law.

I hope it passes.

2007-08-14 01:04:29 PM
I see the disintegration of the Republican party continues right on schedule.

2007-08-14 01:04:33 PM
Why can't people be conservative on some issues and liberal on others without being castigated by their party. This is another reason the two party system and the dogmatic adherence to the party line sucks. Each side has its ideological litmus test that makes it difficult to get real reformers into any position of power.

How about constituents and country first and then party somewhere down the line.

2007-08-14 01:05:02 PM
The Republican Party is what it has always been: A cabal of greedy multimillionaires and billionaires hoping to seize any remaining wealth and power they do not already possess. They don't really give a damn about abortion. If their daughters get in trouble, it is quickly and quietly taken care of. They don't really care whether Adam and Steve want to get married. They don't really like the idea of the rabble being armed. They just tell redneck idiots what they want to hear so they will vote against their own economic interests.

2007-08-14 01:05:04 PM
RINO is the Christian Conservative word for people who favor small government over the Christian political expansion of governmental powers.

2007-08-14 01:05:25 PM
Rino:

Any of the Neocons, or anyone in the current administration or any supporter of the current administration. None of these people are truly Republicans, not the Republican party of Goldwater or even Reagan. Todays "Republicans" are Republican by party membership only, a party they have hijacked and overrun with their own corrupt and empty values.

2007-08-14 01:05:55 PM
I'd vote for any actual conservative as a RINO considering the Republican Party isn't conservative anymore.

2007-08-14 01:06:13 PM
I blame Bill the Cat.

2007-08-14 01:06:30 PM
"That not completely true. They also hate the gheys and Mexicans."

And African Americans just to tack on one more of the many.

FTFA "Fed up with excessive spending, amnesty for illegal aliens, and weak positions on family values and abortion, conservatives across the country are frustrated that their voices have fallen on deaf ears. Until now," said a news release announcing the Top RINO awards

there in lies the biggest irony of this article. true conservatives would want the legality of abortion (and a lot of other issues that don't really have anything to do with being conservative) to be decided by the states or local governments.

the very concept of conservative meaning in support of a christian state, governed by christian morality, is the problem with modern "conservatives" and will hopefully be their downfall. i would love to live in a world where the conservatives want the governement to stop moral decisions for its people.

or in other words, i nominate the guy this article is about for CINO of the year.

2007-08-14 01:07:11 PM
Suck it, whomever!

I'm socially liberal and fiscally conservative.. what party do I belong to? :)

Hint, it's definitely not the current party of (R)

zipdog: I'd vote for any actual conservative as a RINO considering the Republican Party isn't conservative anymore.

Wait. Isn't a neo-con a form for a conservative?

You guys call Republicans neo-cons all the time.

I'm confused.

d'art: RINO is the Christian Conservative word for people who favor small government over the Christian political expansion of governmental powers.

Well put. There doesn't seem to be much room in the GOP for fiscal conservative/social liberal types.

2007-08-14 01:07:55 PM
Well, if the Republican party is supposed to be the party of conservatism, I wonder if Bush will win this poll.

2007-08-14 01:08:06 PM
The fact that Hillary Clinton is considered a "Liberal" by these people is amusing. That just shows how far out to the right they really are.

If this was 20 or 30 years ago, Hillary Clinton would be a moderate Republican.

But they've been conditioned to think this way by FOX Opinion Channel. The only Democrat candidate that is a true Liberal is Dennis Kuchinich. The rest are all very moderate if not conservative Democrats.

FTFY. Obviously, you think the Dems are all poor, working class people just trying to help their fellow man. LOL

I'm old enough to remember when most Repubs weren't crazy. They believed in not wasting money and (for the most part) prudent, sane public policy. I liked them. The ones on the fringe were the 'Birchers' and they were ridiculed by intelligent people of all political stripes.

Starting in the mid '70s the Bircher types took over the party, gaining momentum in the 80s when that figurehead they worship led them. The sane ones are an endangered species. Today their big tent includes the theocrats, the kleptos, the kill-em-all-let-God-sort-em-out crowd, the people who want to take Science out of the Science classrooms. That's the norm.

Based on the definition I grew up with, they're almost all Republicans-in-name-only.

2007-08-14 01:09:30 PM
Mordant: I wish there was a version of conservatism that meant more than just "hating Libs" these days.

See, that's the thing... Liberals hate Conservatives because of what they're doing to our country. Conservatives do what they're doing to our country because they hate Liberals.

How many times have you heard "if it pisses off the Libs, it must be good?" or some variation thereof? That kind of thinking leads to unwinnable wars and the Half Hour News Hour.

John Edwards is not a moderate. He's a populist. And his daddy worked in a mill!

Oh no! Politicans who OCCASIONALLY think for themselves instead of automatically doing what everyone else in their party is doing! It's anarchy!

That's my first reaction. Here's my second...

If you're bothered by what an Arizona senator is doing, or by what a California governor is doing, and you don't live in either place... Too farking bad. The Arizona senator represents the people of Arizona. Maybe they knew full well what they were getting. In any case, they didn't elect him to make every GOP in the country happy. So take your silly "the universe revolves around ME ME ME!" award and shove it up your ass. You vote for who you want, I'll vote for who I want. You can elect a communist or a satan worshipper or a little green man from Mars. I really don't care. He's your elected official, not mine. And if my representative is not doing his job, that's for me and the others in my district/city/state to deal with.

I pick Joe Lieberman.

Oh, wait, you said pick the RINO and not DINO. Never mind.
