I love the fact that Mythbusters is repeated ad nauseum, but can't they switch around the shows? At least three airings of the whirlpool ep in the last 5 days or so. k, i watched two of them.

  2007-02-06 05:46:07 PM
What the heck is this "Heroes" thing I keep hearing mentioned?

  2007-02-06 05:46:09 PM
So who wound up shooting J.R.?

  2007-02-06 05:46:24 PM
No spoilers? That takes away half the fun of actually discussing one of the shows as it is happening.

But thanks MODS, still cool.

What part of "no spoilers" don't you under stand. You've ruined my "Friday night Sci-Fi Rerun because I like 24 more than Heroes" and made the baby jesus cry.

Ah well, all in a day.

  2007-02-06 05:57:35 PM
TTBoyArDee

He didn't give a spoiler. He gave a funny joke. Linderman has not only NOT been shown, but also has no allusion to him having powers. You are safe.

Oh, by the way, Peter dies this week.

/Hahahahahaha

How it's Made is the best show on earth, when there isn't anything else on to watch.

There isn't anything on right now :(

TTBoyArDee: You've ruined my "Friday night Sci-Fi Rerun because I like 24 more than Heroes" and made the baby jesus cry.

Oh, and I took Claire's virginity. Although I can't prove it now.

  2007-02-06 06:01:19 PM
I'm especially disappointed with this weeks Studio 60. "What America will be talking about" my buttcheeks.

The only thing I'm talking about today is how the show had a lot of potential and is now running itself into the ground. I actually enjoyed the show when it started. Now I just want to see Matt & Harriet kill each other slowly with blunt instruments.

Oh well, come March we'll never see the show again. Good jorb, Sorkin.

  2007-02-06 06:02:24 PM
Oh, I went more in depth about Studio 60 on my blog, but I won't be a 'tard and post it here. Find it in my profile.

  2007-02-06 06:08:12 PM
Haggis: Studio 60

Didn't they just cancel Studio 60

  2007-02-06 06:12:51 PM
This is farking stupid. I don't wanna talk about "Heroes" or "BSG" while some other idiot is raving about "American Idol". CHANGE IT BACK!!!!

  2007-02-06 06:13:22 PM
Not cancelled, shelved while they put their wanna-be Sopranos on the air. Although it's not likely they'll put Studio 60 back on the air.

  2007-02-06 06:15:46 PM
[sarcasm on]yeah, this'll work superbly.[sarcasm off]

  2007-02-06 06:27:10 PM
Haggis: Not cancelled, shelved while they put their wanna-be Sopranos on the air. Although it's not likely they'll put Studio 60 back on the air.

Ahh, thanks. I did not realise there was a difference.

  2007-02-06 06:43:26 PM
Count me in with the other five or six people in world who really liked Studio 60, dammit. I think Amanda Peet's pregnancy kinda farked it though. She is way too hot to have a believable romance with Bradley Whitford's ugly, irritating character.

Atirracs: How it's Made is the best show on earth, when there isn't anything else on to watch.

It suffers from a couple problems:
1) It never gives enough time to any one item, so you don't get a good idea how it is actually made, and
2) They usually focus on crap- who wants to see about Longaberger?

Or is that "Made in America?" Those two shows are kind of duplicates of one another, just different hosts.

  2007-02-06 07:31:34 PM
I liked Studio 60, mostly because they gave me Lucy Davis and Amanda Peet on a weekly basis. Perry was great in that role, I can't imagine he'll get a better gig.

  2007-02-06 07:35:06 PM
This will be great! I cannot wait to read what is going on in "Heroes" as I comment on "24". It will save me the time of recording it and watching it afterwards.

It satisfies my curiosity often enough that I don't mind it so. It is somewhat abbreviated but how much of an assembly line do you actually need to see?

Rocktacula: Nobody should watch G4. Ever.

G4 can suck my wet arsehole. ZDTV was great, but just a wee bit too nerdy. TechTV was really fairly awesome. They canned a few of the big dorks, hired some hotties (or gave them shows to co-host... Mmm... Morgan...)

Then along comes G4. They fire most of the good people (LEO!!!!), cancel most of the good shows, start up a bunch of retarded shows and start showing crappy re-runs, and finally turn the last couple decent shows into piles of filth (Enough with the freaking skits on X-Play, and I don't care how funny that one sound clip from the game is, try not to play it 30 times in one 2-minute review.)

Mike: This is meant to replace all the individual TV show threads.

I can see how you might originally think that this would work but there are a few shows which air at the same time on different channels that have fans of both (24 and Heroes comes to mind). In this age of Tivo there are many who would have to shun this just to avoid spoilers in shows that can be heavy on surprise plot twists.

I could see it working far a few shows that have no time conflicts though.

ubermensch: Why did Jack's bro put his dad through all that if they could have just killed jack there? If they were going to kill him, why all the drama?

Maybe because if Jack says "Im going to talk to my Dad" then turns up dead then obviously that puts the spotlight on Dad versus how it played out which was all the blame on the brother and then Dad tries to off Jack while he is in the clear.

snikrepkire: American Dad is to Family Guy
as The Critic is to The Simpsons.

I think American Dad is funnier. The guy who does both had to segment the humor of Family Guy to try to make the shows a distinct entity and I think that American Dad got the good stuff, not to mention that the underlying premise (CIA agent, housemom, alien, hippy kid, nerd kid and a psycho goldfish) makes for less need to find convoluted ways to get the characters into wacky situations.

And the Critic isn't worth 1/100 the opening of the Simpsons.

  2007-02-16 01:20:32 PM
Hmmmmm. SockMonkeyHolocaust, you're the first person I've heard of that prefers AD to FG. I don't mind it, but FG is one of the few shows that causes me to consider intentionally watching TV at a certain time.
AD gets watched as a side-effect of that -as does King of the Hill.

Saw 2 movies last night:
Jesus Camp - Terrifying.
Altered - Not so much.

Is anyone going to the Jagermeister Music Tour? I'm thinking of Boston April 4th, but I haven't actually heard of any of the bands except Stone Sour and I don't know if I like them.

  2007-02-16 02:32:56 PM
DirecTV or Dish?

Depends on what channels you want, whether you want hi-def, whether you want a PVR. There's a reason there's an assload of plans out there :)

Way back 10 years ago I picked Dish over DirecTV because they had Comedy Central on their cheapest plan where DirecTV had it only in their middle tier, so Dish was cheaper for what I wanted then.

Last year when I was looking for HD stuff, Dish had more HD content than DirecTV. All the HD stuff on both systems is moving to MPEG4 to save bandwidth and Dish had shipping MPEG4 hardware already. Some of their newer HD channels already required it. So that's what I went with (DishHD Silver package).

Both situations have probably changed since I looked at it.

DirecTV has better PVR's though. DirecTV has Tivo, Dish has a poor workalike of it. It's better than it was though; the first standard-def Dish PVR I had was *really* bad feature-wise, and the hard drive crashed 3 months out of warranty (not surprisingly, it was a Maxtor drive, but that's a rant for the Fark Tech Forum, not here...) :) Their HD PVR's are *much* better. Still not a Tivo but getting there.

Drew has a DirectTV Tivo setup and uses the hell out of it, but he doesn't have a hi-def TV yet.

Both of them, plus every land-based digital cable system, are going to have nasty MPEG compression artifacts because they all overcompress the shiat out of things. Some people complain about one vs the other because of this. I seriously believe they're ALL equally sucky. Some of them try to compensate with filters to blur edges to make it less obvious but that just trades one distortion for another.

  2007-02-16 02:48:28 PM
Hello world!

Drew ... doesn't have a hi-def TV yet.
Yikes. I can't believe you just outed Drew. You are so fired.

Thanks. The only other real compare/contrasts I can find anywhere are "Whichever one has the best deal at the time" and "DirecTV has better sports packages".

I probably shouldn't watch that much TV anyway.

American Dad is to Family Guy
as The Critic is to The Simpsons.

What about Futurama?
It was much better than The Critic and actually comes from the same guy as The Simpsons.

The Futurama episode with Fry's dog has always stuck with me. I can't think of any other tv show that ended like that. The first time I saw it I hated it, it's just so sad and not right. But after I've seen it a couple more times I've grown to appreciate it, mostly because it doesn't paint a rosy picture. I just feel so bad for the poor dog. He's sitting on the curb, waiting for Fry to show up, while in the future Fry thinks the dog forgot about him. It still gets me.

  2007-02-16 04:17:22 PM
Futurama is great.
It took me a while to warm up to it, but now I think it was consistently better on average than the Simpsons.

I just literally spit out a tiny bit of my Sprite while I was browsing imdb and saw a banner ad for Open Water 2. Yougottabefarkingkiddingme....

  2007-02-17 12:48:42 PM
re: Futurama. My TiVo started recording it and I started watching it and have been enjoying it thoroughly. Much better than the Simpsons are now. I just think Simpsons is past its "Best by" date and that they're milking the cash cow.

I think American Dad is funnier.

Meh. I tried very hard last night to view it (Black History Month, peanut butter episode) with a more open mind, but it still fell way short of the FG episode.
I guess it could have been an especially weak AD ep., I thought the FG (Peter is a bully, Stewie gets a tan) was pretty uninspired as well. There were some really hilarious parts of the FG though, not so much with the AD.
I actually enjoyed King of the Hill (Bill's family barbecue recipe) as much over all as the Family Guy, and quite a bit more than the American Dad.
The new Simpsons (7,14,21, etc. Up style documentary) was of a quality rarely seen of late, it was the best of the bunch.

Yup. People are already getting pretty sick of me yelling that, AllYourBase.

That flick had many flaws, but I think most of them are just attributable to the film being way more ambitious than was achievable by the amount of resources hat were devoted to it.
It's seriously threatening to worm its way into my Favorite 50-100 movies.

My attempt at live transcription from songs in my playlist
--------
Drink her shmaza from a shell
San Francisco show and tell
Well I should know, by, now, that its just a spell
like a Sunday in PJ
that its cheap but its not free
and Im not what I used to be
and that loves not a game for me

Babylon sister shake it, babylon sister shake it
so fine, so young, tell me im the only one
here comes those santa ana winds again

my friends they no go for that cotton candy
son your playin with fire
the kid will live and learn
as he watches his bridges burn
from the audtiorium

babylon sisters, shake it, babylon sisters, shake it
so fine, so young, tell me im the only one

youve got to shake it baby, youve got to shake it baby, youve got to shake it...

----

bury the bottle momma, its grapefruit wine
kick off your high heel sneakers, its party time
the girls dont seem to care
whats on
as long as they play till dawn
nothing but blues and elvis
and somebody elses favorite song
give us some funked up music
she treats you nice
feed us some hungry regaee
shell love you twice
the girls dont seem to care tonight
as long as the mood is right
no static, no static at all
heavy , no static at all

Give us some funked up music, she treats you nice
Feed us some hungry regaee she'll love you twice
The girls dont seem to care, tonight, as long as the mood is right
no static, no static, no static at all....

--------------
in the corner
of my eye
i saw you at rudys
you were very high
you wer ehigh
it was a crying discrace
they saw your face
on the counter
by your keys
was a book of numbers
and your remedies
one of these
surely will screen out the sorrow
but where are you tomorrow

i cant cry anymore while you run around
while you run around
break away,
just when it seem sso clear
that its over now
drink your big black cow
and get out of here

down the green street
there you go
looking so outrageous
and trhey tell you so
you should know
how all the pros play the game
you change your name
like a gangster
on the run
you will stagger home
to your precious one
im the one
who must make everything right
talk it out till daylight

i dont care anymore
how you run around
how you run around
break away
just when it seems so clear
that its ove rnow
drink your big black cow
and get out of here

JonBonham: Gnarls Barkley - St. Elsewhere: Great album, or the greatest album?

The greatest bubble gum album I've ever heard. Danger Mouse is the future of hip hop, which makes him the future of pop, but it seems that most of the stuff I've heard doesn't have a lot of staying power. I predict that he will produce the next epic hip hop record.

Heh, while I was watching the latest 24 some old knick-knack fell off the wall next to me, making a loud racket. It happened during a particularly suspenseful scene and totally spooked me. Nice that a six year old show can still draw you into its reality like that.

  2007-03-01 06:24:24 PM
Over in the Politics Forum some of the Farkers are listing their political beliefs for general reference. I figure we could do the same here with our favorite TV shows, musicians, authors, etc.

I'll just start with a few of the shows I'm currently following:

House
24
Monk
Boston Legal
ER
Without A Trace
Studio 60
Grey's Anatomy

Of those, Studio 60 is (undeservedly, IMHO) on the brink of cancellation, while ER probably should have been euthanized long ago, though I still watch it for some strange reason.

Since I don't have cable, the only show I watch is 24, because I make it a priority to head over to my buddy's every Monday.

Every time I look at this thread I feel sorry for it. I feel this indescribable need to make that scroll bar on the side of my screen smaller. So I fill the space. To fill space today I'm going to write about music I enjoy, maybe you enjoy it as well, maybe you don't. Maybe you've never listened to it before, if not, I'd recommend giving it a listen.

Morphine-A band that I'm listening to constantly. Too bad the lead singer died. I think they've got a unique style, sometimes upbeat, sometimes not so upbeat, kind of sexy. "I Know You (Part III)", "Thursday", "Top Floor, Bottom Buzzer", and "Super Sex", are all great, and there's a bunch more. Some of their songs are pretty depressing ("In Spite of Me" comes to mind) but that's all right.

Soul Coughing-Another unique band, but probably better known than Morphine. Most of their stuff is pretty random, which I think is what really draws me in. There's one that I have no idea where I got it from called "Coffee Song" that is strange as hell but cool. "So Far, I Have Not Found the Science", "Blue Eyed Devil", "Disseminated", and "The Incumbent", are all excellent lesser known tunes, and of course "Rolling", "Circles", and "Super Bon Bon".

311-They catch a lot of shiat, but nevertheless, I think they're great. In my opinion "Soundsystem", "Grassroots", and "Music" are their best albums.

The Beastie Boys-Slipping a little in their old age (at least judging by "To the Five Burrows"), but still cool. "Sabotage" still kicks ass, "Paul's Boutique", almost 20 years old, remains to be outstanding. "Licensed to Ill" is a classic party album. Who can resist "Girls" and "Brass Monkey"? Not me, that's for sure.

Ok, I'm getting tired of typing, and we all know no one reads a post with a bunch of text anyway (I realize that means no one has made it to this point), so here's a few more, but no more long descriptions. Bad Religion, Rancid (and Operation Ivy before them), and NoFX are all great old school punk bands that have interesting views and kick ass songs, the whiny emo guys could learn a thing or two from them. On that note (the whiny emo guys)I also really dig Weezer. Tool, NIN, The Bloodhound Gang, Ice Cube, Nirvana, and Less Than Jake are all on my must have list. I could continue on, but I think that's enough about my musical tastes for now. I think I've filled enough space.

  2007-03-23 06:44:53 PM
Farkn Yaj Yenrac: "Sabotage" still kicks ass

QFT. I always had a soft spot for "Flute Loop" as well, kinda quirky and unexpected, but still fun.

  2007-03-24 01:35:45 PM
Could you imagine how tiring it must be to hang out with Sonic Youth? I posit that it must be extremely exhausting, like you would go to get on the bus and then Thurston would get on the bus in a totally awesome way that is expanding the definition of getting on the bus and it wouldn't be a bus, it would be a rickshaw.

Kim Gordon and the others would kinda' look on and be bored.

Talking with them would be kind of annoying, because you'd have to get used to them talking about their everyday friends in the way that namedroppers talk about their famous friends except, you know, Thurston knew Lungleg when everyone called her "Liz". At least you'd be spared them saying something like, "I was talking to Nick Cave, lead singer of the Bad Seeds and..." because they are Sonic Youth, of course they know Nick Cave. Why would they have to point out that they know him?

  2007-03-24 01:41:44 PM
Also, I'd like to point out that Foetus/Jim Thirwell is a master of genres but man, oh man do his vocals and lyrics suck.

By "master of genres" I mean that Damon Albarn wishes he had an ounce of Thirwell's control and scoring ability and I hope his work on The Venture Brothers gets the attention it deserves.

Does food fall under the Entertainment category? 'Cause I'm always looking for different food/recipe ideas to break the gastronomic monotony, but in a fairly small town I don't get much variety from the restaurants.

  2007-03-24 08:40:51 PM
Well, I was verbally abused by an overzealous cop today, so that was my entertainment. NO, wait - my fun entertainment will be sitting here tonight, writing a letter to both the mayor and police captain of the little burb, explaining in detail why you just don't fark with darkhorse23 when she's not bothering anyone.

Oh, yeah, it'll be sweet. Last letter I had to write because someone overstepped their little ego got the asswipe fired. Mmmmmm, I love the smell of asswhuppin in the evening.

You're so right about Morphine...I have lost my copies of their albums unfortunately, and I'm at a loss as to where to get them again...sadness.

As for the Beastie Boys, you're also right...I am actually listening to "The Sounds of Science" as I type this.

was I the only one who watched "planet earth" sunday night? 3 hours (2 in a row, 1 hour of deadliest catch, then 1 more) of biatch'n nature stuff. it's the coolest idea for a nature documentary ive ever heard: a guide to the planet earth as a whole, presumably for a perspective of someone not from earth. I thought it was brilliant, EXTREMELY pretty to watch, and edutaining. it might have something to do with the fact that I was tripping my balls off while I watched it but hey, it was still cool right?

  2007-03-27 03:30:42 PM
BlueBook: ...kinda quirky and unexpected, but still fun.

That's what the Beasties are best at, I think.

SlackingToBabylon

That's a shame, I suppose their stuff is out print now... Sadness concurred.

To keep up on my theme from my last post, I just started listening to Pepper, I think they're from Hawaii, they sound like Sublime, only a little more of a reggae sound, and a little less rap. I kept hearing "No Control" on Sirius and had to check them out (it sounds different than most their other stuff, I found out, but not in a bad way). I think they have a few albums, I just picked up 2 of their most recent, "No Shame" and "Kona Town". If you've never heard them before I'd recommend checking them out, excellent summer tunes.

/I'm so proud, that little scroll bar on the side of my screen is slightly shorter...

  2007-03-27 05:20:50 PM
Farkn Yaj Yenrac: (at least judging by "To the Five Burrows")

In my continuing quest to reduce scroll bar size I feel that I must point out that I am slightly retarded. Burrows != Boroughs. Although an album dedicated to the 5 diggers might be alright. Even better would be an album dedicated to the 5 Burros. Donkeys are cool.

  2007-03-28 07:42:37 PM
A couple years back there was a website going around that would let you put in an artist's name or song title, and it would pick something similar to the genre and play it for you. It was random what you'd get - rarely do you get exactly what you asked for - and mostly only referenced (from what I remember) publically popular songs and singles, but not entirely. Its purpose was to show the user other artists in the genre that the user may not be familiar with or get exposed to ordinarily.

I'd like to use this to expand my own music collection; however, I do not remember the name of the website at all. I figure this would be a good place to see if someone knew what I was talking about.

So, anyone know what I am referring to, and perhaps have a link to it, if it still exists?

I think you're talking about Pandora

  2007-03-29 02:44:50 AM
Big Black's cover version of Kraftwerk's "The Model" is far superior to Carter The Unstoppable Sex Machine's version of the same. Both top any band's take on the long version of Don MacLean's "American Pie" or any cover ever done by a ska band.

spleef420

"An Open letter to NYC" is one of my favorites on that album, also "Hey fark You", in fact I like pretty much the whole album, just not as much as their previous efforts. Also, thanks for the Pandora link, interesting site.

SockMonkeyHolocaust:Both top any band's take on the long version of Don MacLean's "American Pie" or any cover ever done by a ska band.

1)Does that include Madonna's version of "American Pie"? Cuz that was a musical masterpiece.
2)Propaghandi wishes to interject:
"Ska sucks.
The ska revival isn't cool you stupid fux.
The bands are only in it for the bucks,
and if you don't believe me, you're a schmuck."
3)I have never heard of Carter the Unstoppable Sex Machine, but I think that's a great band name.

Farkn Yaj Yenrac: 1)Does that include Madonna's version of "American Pie"? Cuz that was a musical masterpiece.

I want to hit you with a rolled up newspaper and scream, "NO! BAD!" at you.

"Ska sucks.

Eh, I like ska. I just don't think that the late 90s Third Wave was all that good of a chapter in the history of the evolution of the ska/punk genre with the huge influx of 80s covers being a particular low point.

3)I have never heard of Carter the Unstoppable Sex Machine, but I think that's a great band name.

Have you heard of Snuff? They are a poppier version of Snuff. If you like Less Than Jake or any pop punk bands, then pick up either Snuff or Carter The Unstoppable Sex Machine.

SockMonkeyHolocaust: I want to hit you with a rolled up newspaper and scream, "NO! BAD!" at you.

I probably deserve it.

Eh, I like ska. I just don't think that the late 90s Third Wave was all that good of a chapter in the history of the evolution of the ska/punk genre with the huge influx of 80s covers being a particular low point.

I don't really have anything against ska, but I've never been too into it, either, off the top of my head the only ska bands that I've listened much to are The Specials and Fishbone. "Ska Sucks" just popped into my head and I posted it.

Have you heard of Snuff? They are a poppier version of Snuff. If you like Less Than Jake or any pop punk bands, then pick up either Snuff or Carter The Unstoppable Sex Machine.

I'm interested, what's their best stuff to check out?

Nope. I taped it. (Yes, that's right, VHS taped. You may now point and laugh at my archaic medium.)
I hope to get the remaining 8 episodes as they appear. I just knew it was one of those things I'd want to have the option to rewind a few times; great images. The website is worth checking out as well.

my entertainment today is cleaning my house & finally unpacking my chicago suitcase

anybody got anything more interesting?

please???

  2007-03-31 09:03:46 PM
That Musicovery seems interesting, but I can't seem to get it to play anything even remotely "power metal." Also, of the genres that I am familiar that it has, it seems I recognize nearly every artist they offer. It just doesn't seem as complete or broad as Pandora.

  2007-03-31 09:41:45 PM
Pandora definitely has an edge as far as customization; it's nice to be able build your own "stations". Musicovery seems built around its (somewhat gimmicky) multi-colored interface. I like it because it does have a nice selection of classical music which, IIRC, is the one genre Pandora does not cover.

  2007-03-31 09:51:05 PM
Oh yeah, original soundtracks too. The Pandora FAQ says they're working on classical and soundtracks but they don't have a firm date on they'll be made available.

/Gotta have that Top Gun anthem.

Right off the bat, I am going to assume you don't own anything by famed rockabilly act Elvis Hitler. Rectify this. Now.

You can get Empire Earth as a download for $20 if you're into RTS.

Otherwise, hit up your local Staples and rock their $10 bin.

Bluebook:

Alpha Centauri* and its expansion, Alien Crossfire. Also has a relatively vibrant mod community through various Civ-themed fansites. This is a turn-based civilization sim (though set on another world). Similarly, Age of Empires II should be cheap; I liked that particular iteration a lot more than AoEIII and the Star Wars themed version.

Freelancer, a space sim using the mouse for movement/firing rather than a keyboard. It has a fairly linear campaign, but you get the best ship at the end and so there's not much else to do except explore. There is a mod community and internet play for it. There are also other various -lancer games with similar gameplay, though I can't name them for you all.

Diablo/Diablo II are good, easy ways to waste time.

*You may need to download patches to get AC to run properly on WinXP, but I'm sure you can find them on the Firaxis website. Also, I get told that my CPU is not supported by the game, and that crashes are possible, but they're pretty rare. Maybe once per 50 hours (and they may not even be related to the CPU), and the game will autosave each turn by default.

Well, predictably, the Grey's Anatomy spinoff looks like it's going to suck rancid donkey spooge. I like Kate Walsh, would hit it, but she just can't carry her own series. Don't get me started on Tim Daly. Now Taye Diggs and Amy Brenneman, maybe.

On a side note, was the impotent tumor guy the same one that got blown up in the 24 season opener? The one that looks like Drew?

wakitu: are they replacing them with a new set?

Not sure, but this season ended with Whiny Skinny Chick, Token Black Dude, and Aussie Brown-Noser all either quitting or getting fired. Actually, I like their characters, but I get the feeling that House may be one of those shows that burns brightly for a few years, then jumps the shark very suddenly. This may the writers' attempt to preemptively stoke the fires. As for the actors, I haven't heard any rumors, but Omar Epps could probably get a series of his own if he wanted it.

I finally just saw the last episode, and dropped back in here to say: Now I understand what you were talking about! Thanks for the heads up!

Agree about the show in general; it's gotten quite a rep for predictability and pretty much used up its shock value. (How many testicles can you explode or eyeballs can you pop before it's just a yawn, after all?)

I also agree about Epps; strong character, good delivery, but he doesn't seem to have much in development right now.

I thoroughly enjoy Hugh Laurie's work - he's long shown he's got comedy well-covered, and this brought his dramatic capabilities to the attention of a lot of American households. As good as the show has been been for him, I can't help but think he might find it a pleasant break to get that stone out of his shoe and talk in his "real voice" if only as successful a vehicle could be found for him.

House M.D. stole the ratings for Fox, apparently, with their finale, so perhaps another season can be wrung out. It'll be interesting to see where they take it.

Well, not very much alike, but there are some similarities. Mind you, I'm talking about the original Lapti Nek (pops) song in RotJ, not the "Jedi Rocks" version in the re-release. And not the thin little synth melody at the start of Funkytown (pops), but the fuller disco beat beginning at about one minute in.

Transformers was the greatest movie ever. It was perfect. I nominate it as the official movie of this forum and all films will be held up against it and we will display pleasure or dismay at a film's inability to measure up to the Transformer standard with a thumb pointed down in disgust or high in the sky like a torch beaconing to all.

Also, anyone claiming their childhood was raped by a film will be sacrificed to the vengeful spirit of David O. Selznick and Irving Thalberg to ensure good seasonal box offices. We can make a festival about it for the kiddies.

Jazz was voiced by Darius McCrary, better known as Eddie Winslow from Family Matters. I can only hope that the sequel will feature 'Tardotron, voiced by Shawn Harrison.

olapbill: umm. since he's always doing the robot, isn't he a little played before he even begins.

No man, that just makes him doing the robot like times 11. You know, like when you're drunk and you say, "I am going to launch a plan off an air craft carrier" and then you realize that you don't own an aircraft carrier and you don't know how to fly a plane? Well, Jazz owns his own aircraft carrier that's how far ahead of you he is.

Wait, change all that to past tense because apparently he's dead but Megatron will be coming back.

Wouldn't it be funny if it turned out this super-evolved race of robots still believed in segregation? Like Jazz died because they ran out of black robot bandages and, well, a white robot might get hurt and they don't want to chance it.

Heamer: Jazz was voiced by Darius McCrary, better known as Eddie Winslow from Family Matters. I can only hope that the sequel will feature 'Tardotron, voiced by Shawn Harrison.

I guess they were saving Reginald VelJohnson for when they introduce Prowl. You know, so they have another black robot to kill off.

I would've settled for Liv Tyler's boobs, but that would've been pretty cool, too.

  2007-08-21 11:26:11 PM
Ugh, Liv Tyler ruins everything she touches. She can't even scream right. Watch 'That Thing You Do' and watch her try to scream. She can't. She's terrible.

She's part of my "Trilogy of Three" that stop me from seeing a movie like an invisible, impenetrable shield or the successful overthrow of the Cuban government... her, Claire Danes and Drew Barrymore turn everything they touch into a suckfest with their terrible acting and tiny boobs that are smaller than their heads.

I have begun a letter to Peter Jackson to try to have her excised from the movies and will be including it with a longer letter I have been writing entitled "567 grievous misdeedes Peter Jackson must correct in the next release of the LOTR trilogy" and each one is based on deviations from the books that were important to the storyline that were not included.

I hate Nikki Six for being such a farking tool and getting more pussy than I'll ever be able to get.

  2007-08-22 02:09:21 PM
I love YOUTUBE now more than going to the movies or TV. I have been watching this guy Dom- Venom Master who is more exciting then Steve Irwin or Austin Stevens. Cobra in Dining Room, is amazing.

SockMonkeyHolocaust: I hate Nikki Six for being such a farking tool and getting more pussy than I'll ever be able to get.

You left off an "x" in your fit of lonely, slightly overweight jealousy.

  2007-08-25 02:51:00 AM
Heamer: You left off an "x" in your fit of lonely, slightly overweight jealousy.

He is still a tool. I think that it's the hair combined with the soul patch and being a member of Motley Crue, a group of manchildren that other man children look up to.

I can't tell if this is supposed to be a children's show in the sense that it's a children's show for children or a children's show for adults.

Lazy Town's "You Are A Pirate" (new window)

  2007-08-25 02:52:52 AM
The German version is filled with menace. (new window)

Are they talking about raiding the Spanish Main or taking back the Danzig corridor with a lusty shout and zerg rush set to a techno beat?

  2007-08-25 01:13:57 PM
Ah, Lazy Town. I've been subject to this bizarre show on more than one occasion, having babysat some younger cousins in the past. I'm certain that it's geared towards children, if only for the sake of wacky colors, infectiously repetitive songs, and the display of Julianna Rose Mauriello in provocative spandex costumes.

Exhibit A: Try not to get this stuck in your head.

And then try not to imagine the pink-haired girl doing naked cartwheels through your living room.

  2007-08-25 02:05:18 PM
I didn't know that there was an epidemic where people were giving rein to their anarchistic side and rebelling against the tyranny of the cake recipe.

Maybe that was a preventative measure. Maybe the people of Lazytown consider their role in society is to be proactive. Let other kid's shows engage children in frank discussions of the pedestrian topics of strangers and what to do if they get lost because Lazy Town has its own education agenda to fulfill. In the future, no cake will go unbaked without first following instructions.

Heamer: And then try not to imagine the pink-haired girl doing naked cartwheels through your living room.

Considering I was a sophmore in highschool when she was born, I think I'll give her another two years before I start thinking like that.

  2007-08-25 02:39:51 PM
Interestingly, the producers of the show want to encourage kids to get outside and (generally) experience the world firsthand. To indoctrinate children with this zany ideal, they must (of course) use television.

SockMonkeyHolocaust:Considering I was a sophmore in highschool when she was born, I think I'll give her another two years before I start thinking like that.

That would make you about 10 years older than I am, assuming my math is correct. Ten years older and wiser, I'd suppose. Two years is a fine time to wait, in any event. I guess I'm just too wrapped up in trying to live like Nikki Sixx while I still can.

Sans the ridiculous hair, of course.

  2007-08-26 05:25:45 PM
I saw Harry Potter and the search for more money last night. Man, those movies are so much better than the books but "The Room of Requirement" is seriously the worst farking literary cop out that I have ever seen.

"Yeah, it only shows up when needed... didn't we mention it? Oh yeah, it's magic.'

Seriously, give me a farking break. I know that people who read the Harry Potter books aren't the most literary discerning people in the world but how can you not revolt at that shiat writing?

Heamer: That would make you about 10 years older than I am, assuming my math is correct. Ten years older and wiser, I'd suppose. Two years is a fine time to wait, in any event. I guess I'm just too wrapped up in trying to live like Nikki Sixx while I still can.

Hey man, if there's one thing The Crue has taught the world is that you should never be too old to chase teenage poon BUT there are only certain instances where it is considered acceptable and one of those is being in a rock band.

Teacher- not so much.
Writing songs about "Dr. Feelgood" - you betcha'.

  2007-08-28 08:57:19 PM
Nikki Sixx is one of the least attractive men I would consider sleeping with if I were really drunk. He doesn't appear on the "Dudes I'll Consider Sleeping with Sober" list.

Then again, I'm not 19 with DD boobs and too skinny for a size two so I don't think Nikki Sixx is crying himself to sleep over my rejection of him.

  2007-08-29 12:40:13 PM
Orson Welle's radio play of Dracula is ruined by the ridiculousness of voice actors of the time. He is brilliant, as usual, but everyone else is just over-the-top cheesey. The carriage driver sounds like a male version of the Wicked Witch from Wizard of Oz and the count sounds like he learned his Eastern European accent phonetically via mailorder.

oddballgeek: Then again, I'm not 19 with DD boobs and too skinny for a size two so I don't think Nikki Sixx is crying himself to sleep over my rejection of him.

Hey man, don't stop dreaming.

  2007-09-01 04:25:59 PM
Ok, 300 just got ridiculous.

"See, rumor has it that the Athenians have already turned you down, and if those philosophers and boy-lovers have found that kind of nerve..."

Yeah, historical nitpicking is annoying but c'mon man, who you callin' a "boy lover"

  2007-09-03 09:26:03 PM
That movie's great. One too many slow-motion scenes, but otherwise, a faithful adaptation of the zany, over-the-top graphic novel.

  2007-09-06 10:57:11 PM
SMH, it never ceases to amaze me how many people just don't get you sometimes. It's not that hard.

Also, I was watching The View the other day (yeah, shut up), and realized--or rather, was reminded--that Whoopi Goldberg has never had eyebrows. Ever.

Genetic defect, or personal choice? You decide.

  2007-09-07 01:48:51 PM
I always thought that Danny Glover and the Predator must have mated on the set of Predator 2, and their lovespawn was Whoopi Goldberg.
I think the production company must have just shelved Predator 2 until Whoopi grew up so that people would think it was mathematically impossible.
Danny Glover is really 134 years old.

  2007-09-07 03:18:24 PM
Danny Glover was in my hometown a few years ago, allegedly filming a pilot for some new cop-based television drama. That was about three years ago, so clearly, the pilot must've died in a fiery cockpit before the plane ever left the ground. I caught a brief glimpse of him because the place at which they were filming is a really nice Italian restaurant near the water to which I was taking my then-girlfriend for a nice, pre-begging-her-for-sex dinner.

R. Kelly's masterpiece "Trapped in the Closet" is on iFC right now. Seen all together like this, I'm reminded of what an utter genius R. Kelly is.

Heamer: SMH, it never ceases to amaze me how many people just don't get you sometimes. It's not that hard.

Haha, that was fun. I got a lot of fan mail over that one. Eh, if everyone knew where I was coming from or found me amusing I would have no one to make fun of.

  2007-09-10 04:27:01 PM
I just watched Raising Arizona for the umpteenth time. Man, what a great movie. Randall Cobb is a crazy mofo, but I think they should've dubbed his voice with something scarier.

You know when I stopped thinking that Tom Cruise was human? His acceptance speech at the Oscar's after 9/11.

It was just entirely too obnoxious talking about how Hollywood uplifts us and takes us out of ourselves like as the towers were burning someone was like, "Hey, I have my Bad Boys II tape here. Let's watch it while we wait for rescue."

WE HAVE TOO MUCH MONEY AND ARE UNECCESARY BUT THAT'S COOL BECAUSE WE "ENOBLE" AND "UPLIFT" PEOPLE WITH FILMS LIKE BOAT TRIP AND IN A 9/11 WORLD WE NEED REASONS TO THINK OF OURSELVES AS MORE IMPORTANT THAN ANYONE.

The truth is that the terrorists made a tactical error by thinking that collapsing symbols of capitalism and the military would cripple us. America would still be reeling if they would have crashed those planes into the Oscars. You would not be able to walk for all the documentaries, movies, TV specials and everything else if they had wiped out a room full of Hollywood trash.

As an added bonus, the subsequent concerts raising money for the families of people who were worth millions of dollars would have been hilarious.

  2007-09-15 01:34:48 PM
I hear there's going to be a "tell-all" biography on Tom Cruise by the same guy who wrote the Princess Diana "tell-all." Cant' wait!

I love watching re-runs of old "America's Funniest Home Videos" episodes. It's like with every single segment, another dying petal on the withering flower that is Bob Saget's soul flutters gently to the floor, whereupon Vin di Bona squats over the pile of dead foliage and leaves behind a big, steamy turd.

Of course, it's great fuel for all of his recent stand-up.

I was down on the waterfront on Saturday and the Gazela, a tall ship, was in port. If I was a black nationalist comedian, I'd be all like, "Hell no, fark sailboats. every time your people get near my people with one of those damn things my people wind up on another continent. Sure, having sex with your wives is sort of a bonus but not in exchange for 14 hour a day, seven-day workweek just leave me the hell where I am."

  2007-10-08 04:09:12 AM
Worship actors and actresses; all the beautiful celebrities. Latch thine brain onto their political ramblings, for they are our gods, and our lives are worthless in sad comparison. For they get the best blow. Such perspective it gives!

And: someone tell me what one calls the kind of music where there's a flowing melody, usually made by strings, along with an awesome bass beat, without vocals. Maybe it's chillout or something, but every time I find some internets station that claims to play it, they never actually play anything like what I describe, and it usually sucks hairy camel balls with saliva all over them and little nasty unidentifiable bits that just have to be some kind of STD, though how a camel would get those is beyond me. God damn. You think they have a lot of sex?

A good example of this sort of music might be "clubbed to death" from the orignal matrix soundtrack. Yeah.

Hey! There's should be a music thread. Showbiz as a catch-all forum just isn't working out.

I know what you mean but it's hard to put a label on it: techno, electronica, industrial, ambient, acid jazz, house, new age, synth-pop? Frank Klepacki (pops) occasionally explores that territory. So does James Newton Howard, with Unbreakable (pops) for example.

I KNOW that with the information age, EVERYONE'S privacy went into oblivion, but did the world really need to know about the Ellen's dog mistake. HER general public did not handle it very well. And, if the "Mom's & Mutts" person allows someone to adopt one of her dogs, why does she not trust them to do right by the animal, should that person choose to give the pet to a new home? DUH? It's not like she gave it to a coven to use as a scarifice......

Never posted here before so I dunno how the hell this works...

I need old skool movie guru assistance. I need to identify a movie scene where this old drunk steals an old car, is singing along to the song "A Puppet, a Pirate, a Poet, a Pawn and a King" is cutting mini limes on the car dashboard with a pocket knife whilst drinking little airplane bottles of alcohol...followed by a really nasty barf on the passenger side floor...

anyone? I've googled everything I can think of...I almost want to say the drunk is Britt Leach but I cannot be for sure and his list of movies doesn't ring any bells...

On June 22, 1969, Garland was found dead by her last husband, Mickey Deans, in the bathroom of her rented Chelsea, London house. Coroner Gavin Thursdon stated that the cause of death was accidental overdose of barbiturates; her blood contained the equivalent of ten 1.5-grain Seconal capsules. Garland had turned 47 just over a week prior to her death.

At Garland's funeral, The Wizard of Oz co-star Ray Bolger commented, "She just plain wore out." Garland is interred in Ferncliff Cemetery, in Hartsdale, New York.

I figured out why the great classic animated movie "The Mouse and His Child" hasn't been re-released on DVD!

Because of the "NO MIGRANTS" sign hanging on the dollhouse at the end. This was 1977 and these kind of Jim Crow signs were illegal you know "we refuse the right to serve anyone" signs replacing "no negroes" signs after 1968.

I think I vaguely remember seeing these signs as a small child...

Any seniors out there willing to risk telling me if this is true?

I know this forum is closely watched by many influential Hollywood types, so I must say this:

Playing a nice piece of chamber music or a beautiful opera aria in the background does not add class or dignity or intrigue to your shiatty action movie trailer. It merely serves to highlight the trash. STOP DOING THIS DAMMIT.

(Yeah I know: someone must be making money off it somehow, or they wouldn't keep making this crap.)

Dillenger Four is our name spelled wrong. None of us are tanned, hot dudes. However, we make up for this in sheer genius. You're already farked.

We formed in 1994 as the Ted Kennedys, the only reason we changed the name is because we eat shiat. Chris Farley was a genius, and we miss him more than we miss Elvis Presley because Fat Elvis didn't make us laugh. At least not on purpose. Dellinger Four usually goes on tour a couple of times a year so we can lose tons of money in the name of D.I.Y. ethics while earning "street cred" we can eventually cash in on with the inevitable major label release, done in the name of artistic freedom, and the accompanying video aired on 120 MINUTES while we casually chat with Matt Pinfield about who played the skinflute on Journey's second album or some shiat.

The next time you see Against All Authority ask Big Dog about the time he smoked a joint with a chimp at Monkey Jungle in Florida. The bassist from Digger hates the Bad Brains but loves Sonic Youth, Dilinger Four says that's farked up. We also think Leatherface's "Mush" LP is the greatest pop-punk record ever and also that you should have at least one Motorhead record for every one Ramones record in your collection because Lemmy's track record is far superior to Joey's.

Dillenger Four would like to think we wouldn't have to say we're bothered by bigots, and right-wing mentality in general, however recently a fellow decided to get on the mic at a show in Chicago and "dis" all the "suburban biatches." If you do this we will have to make fun of you, too. And, just like him, you will get jumped on by us naked.

We enjoy being drunk. As far as the rumors go; it seems the two most popular are that most of Dillanger Fore are homosexual drug addicts/dealers, or that we're totally die hard christians. They're both true. Oh yeah, and St. Patrick really did shiat on that guy from Hot Water Music's chest, but it was only cuz he loved him. If you buy our record, please read the lyric sheet or else our effort was pointless.

Who Farted?

Hugs & Bruises,
Diliawdnfer Fousdar

I just bought an e-book reader for the purpose of downloading classics off of Project Guttenberg and getting rid of a few hundred books. I looked at the price of e-books to download and it's f-ing ridiculous. fark $15 downloads.

  2007-11-20 03:18:09 PM
They've been advertising those things all over BART (the S.F. bay area's "subway") lately, and I always thought it suspicious that they never advertised a download price on the signs they plastered all over the walls.

How much did you pay for the e-book reader itself?

  2007-11-20 05:54:40 PM
$300

Like I said, though, it's primarily to replace all the books by dead white people. I should cut my collection in third with this.

For obvious reasons- I am not looking forward to the wave of 90s Nostalgia that is rapidly approaching like a giant cloud of feces released from a pig exrement dumping pond in NC.

In addition, Nirvana is giving the Pixies a run for the money for 'band most likely to inspire bad bands to create watered down retreads' and Pearl Jam was just glam metal wannabes who accidentally latched onto a trend at the beginning.

Why is Angelina dressed like Doogie Howser in Starship Troopers?

I think what they are trying to say is that the Nazis were just misunderstood, and that if they had poured women into SS uniforms that we would have all let the holocaust slide and just boned down in the lebensraum.

I think that's an indefensible position, but what do you expect from Hollywood? A bunch of self-hating Jews in that town, you mark my words.

It's stylized but she's a shiatty actor so I guess you could say the real Holocaust was the time and effort they put in to make the movie, which incidentally was created almost entirely in front of a blue screen.

You know, I actually liked that film but I think it's because I want to see London destroyed by killer robots who owe their allegiance to Laurence Olivier. Don't listen to me though: I loved Starship Troopers, or as I call it Melrose Place in Outer Space.

The vagina-like openings on the brain bug just goes to show that Hollywood is obsessed with beauty and that anything outside of its accepted norm (like an intelligent woman that is not just a series of openings for pleasuring the hero) has to be villianized.

I loved the ending, though.

"It's afraid of us."

"HOORAY! FEAR!"

  2007-12-20 08:54:51 PM
And in retrospect, Jolie is more dressed in line with the current trend of Shakespearean directors to portray the tragedies/histories as having taken place in a fascist alternative world where everybody looks like they are going to a KMFDM concert.

I was briefly enthralled with King Lear and totally jumped at the chance to see it when the Philadelphia Shakespeare Festival produced it only to see Director Karmen Khahn's "vision" of more of the same leather fetish costuming that was considered groundbreaking in the mid-90s in New York. Haven't been back since because I didn't want to have to go and see a production of Shakespeare that takes place in a loft in SoHo in 1968 that is some sort of misguided attempt to prove that Shakespeare was really commenting on the Vietnam war.

  2008-01-16 01:03:30 PM
Rotten Tomatoes visitors have held the original Clerks in the top percentile. So your answer is "The fans. The fans have backwashed all over Rotten Tomatoes".

That stink you smell now is me because I farted and Kevin Smith is basing Clerks III on the experience.

I really liked Cloverfield because I think it shoehorned like 5 types of film into 84 minutes. In that way it was very much like a best-of gonzo porn film.

A++ would see again. That was my idea of a "feel good" film. I love movies where everyone bites it.

Earth verse the Flying Saucers is a remarkable movie because of the indescriminate violence shown towards innocent people. Yeah, you'll get the Washington Monument dropped on you, know why? Because MARTIANS don't care.

The final battle scene is just amazing for not only its special effects but also the body count, not to mention one of the most subversive things you could do back in 1956 was showing Washington DC getting shiathoused by outside forces.

Hi all, I'm proposing a new game for the Showbiz tab since it's always dead here. Basically it's a screen cap contest. We post a screen cap of a scene in a movie, it can be any film (except X-rated), we have to guess what film it is. Only the winner gets to post the next cap though. We can do themes based on holidays or seasons etc.

Anybody interested?

Tonight I did a really annoying chick thing and insisted on watching some (subtitled) Bollywood musical that was on tv (I swear there was nothing else on). I was keen to see some Indian dancing, only 20 minutes passed before we were both shouting DURKADURKADURKA at the tv and venting the kind of rage that only builds up after hundreds of drunken cab rides.

Funny, I was talking about Hollywood escapism and how the amount of it reflects current economic trends with a friend last night. The basic gist of the conversation is that we aren't to the point that India is where it needs an industry completely devoted to ripping off the choreography in Janet Jackson videos from the 90s but that we're not a few years off of Transformers: the Musical.

SockMonkeyHolocaust: I hate it when I watch a movie like Close Encounters of the Third Kind that I have watched many times before and I just get my mind totally blown.

I think this was a product of watching a metric ass ton of 50s and 60s sci fi movies recently. Taken in the context that it completely explodes the ideas established in those movies, Close Encounters is just an amazing film.

I am starting to think that the Auteurs weren't just full of bullshiat and themselves (more bullshiat).

I was so high last night that I couldn't muster the motivation to find the remote in order that I might not watch "What Women Want". God damn you Mel Gibson, for being so bumblingly charming. Disregard the fact that Helen Hunt has a forehead you can show a drive-in movie on, and you almost make me want to give up chauvinism for good. Almost.

"THE GIRL WITH THE FILES! WHERE THE F*CK IS THAT GIRL WITH THE FILES?! SHE'S GOING TO F*CKING KILL HERSELF! I HAVE TO BREAK INTO HER HOUSE NOW! I'M DOING THE RIGHT GODDAMN THING YOU STUPID C*NT!"

He wasn't charming, women want a sensitive guy wearing a powder blue suit in their gay friends not their boyfriends/husbands. What they want is the original character's personae but only dedicated to them.

My mom dragged me to that film and I can't remember anything about it except for my mother's all-consuming bad taste in movies and the subsequent rage it gives me.
I love how quick Australians are to point out that Mel Gibson is American. Nobody wants to claim his crazy ass anymore.

One of the negative aspects of the internet is that the internet's ability to beat a joke into the ground can dilute a comedy movie.

Take Dodgeball for example:
1. Pirates
2. Chuck Norris
3. William Shatner
4. Overly enthusiastic people earnestly defining their aesthetic in the face of an unfriendly context
5. Ben Stiller

All four of those at one point were chuckle inducing with even rarer creative points that made them interesting but thanks to the internet the line "farking Chuck Norris" falls flat.

In conclusion, if Shakespeare were alive today he'd be really, really old. Thank you for your time.

Having watched Wayne's World again the other day, I can finally understand what bothered me so much about the movie when I was growing up. The movie never sat right with me because Cassandra's band was so ridiculously LA and the world of Wayne and Garth was one where Aerosmith was considered ok to listen to. The band played "rockin'" covers of lame-ass 80s songs and it was all about the LOOK of a band that could catch your eye while channel surfing rather than one that had any talent.

The dual aims of the movie was trying to save a down home cable access show from being exploited into this glitzy advertising machine moving units while in the same breath trying to find a place for Cassandra in the machine of major label marketing.

At no one point did the movie reconcile these two goals and they remain at cross purposes.

Little know and largely lost to history were the Gifts of the FighterMagi that enabled Jesus to gain his freedome from the slavepits of Rome and re-establish the Republic.

The Gifts of the FighterMagi were:
-a shiney shield
-a clockwork owl
-a sword that could cut through anything

Memorize this. There will be a test.

Roger Ebert was right, Robert Altman's McCabe and Mrs. Miller is one of the few perfect movies ever made.

Consider it an anti-Western. Watch some big dick swinging contest starring John Wayne and then pop this movie in. The ending doesn't take place under high noon and McCabe doesn't have everything under control. He's scared and out of his depth and he knows it.

It was nice seeing Tupac's sensitive side in "Poetic Justice". It was also nice re-living a period of time when Janet Jackson was actually hot. It was also nice seeing how easy it is for black people to show up at a family reunion, eat their food (I THINK THAT IS BARBECUE!), start a fight, then leave in a mail truck, completely unhindered.

Maya Angelou's cameo, while unexpected, was also nice. I could really use an omniscient, sassy black grandmother.

"Vantage Point" has one of the most ludicrously unbelievable car chases in the history of cinema. Dennis Quaid, despite his rugged handsomeness and gravelly voice, simply cannot remain no more than three car lengths behind the bad guys after plowing through that many cheap European automobiles. Also, there's a really hot Spanish chick in that movie.

olapbill: I wanna see Vantage Point. Worth the rent or nay?

It's certainly entertaining. You have to suspend your disbelief a bit for the generic ZOMG TERR'ISTS back story and aforementioned car chase, but the way the story unfolds is pretty cool, if not a bit repetitive at first. Dennis Quaid is either totally bad-ass, a PTSS head case, laughably stone-faced (imagine Steven Segal meets Leslie Nielsen), or some bizarre combination of all three.

The hot Spanish chick is also worth another mention. Nobody ever runs out of bullets, either, so that's pretty cool too.

Two questions regarding Battlestar Galactica:

1. Does anyone know where I can find a listing of episodes on each disc? I stopped watching after "Rapture" and want to rent off Netflix. Not sure which discs I need to get.

2. Is it OK to watch Razor without having watched all of season 3 or should I finish off the season first?

Thanks for the help.

Now all this is my first time on these forums so I don't know how it works but I thought I could open up discussion on the new movie called Disaster Movie.

Kim Kardashian and Carmen Electra are in it. Now Kim isn't an actress and Electra's acting is questionable but really are you watching it for their acting skills or just to get a view of their assets? Is that what Hollywood is turning into? A user of talentless hotties to make the big bucks?

Much like what had been done with The Facts of Life parent show, Diff'rent Strokes, NBC attempted to use the popularity of The Facts of Life to launch a successful spin-off show, but none of the proposed shows ever made it past the pilot stage.

The various attempts at spin-offs were backdoor pilots, which were shown as episodes of The Facts of Life. These episodes include:

* "Brian & Sylvia" - A second season episode where Tootie and Natalie go to Buffalo, New York to visit Tootie's Aunt Sylvia, a black woman who has recently married a white man. Richard Dean Anderson, the future star of MacGyver and Stargate SG-1, played the white husband, while Ja'net Dubois of Good Times, played Sylvia's mother.
* "The Academy" - A third season episode, set at Bates, an all boys private school that was near Eastland. In this episode, the girls at Eastland were having a dance with the boys school.
* "Jo's Cousin" - Another third season episode. In this episode, Jo visits her family in the Bronx, and we meet her cousin, a fourteen-year-old girl (played by Megan Follows) going through adolescence in a family full of men.
* "The Big Fight" - A fourth season episode, set at Stone Academy, a boys military school. Natalie comes to visit a boy who tries to impress her by boxing.
* "Big Apple Blues" - A ninth season episode, where Natalie spends the night with a group of eccentric young people living in a Soho loft, and decides to remain in New York to start her life. Two of the tenants in the loft were played by David Spade and Richard Grieco.
* "The Beginning of the End/Beginning of the Beginning" - The two part series finale had Blair buying Eastland to prevent its closing. Blair finds that the school is in such dire financial straits that she is forced to make the school co-ed. Blair then essentially adopts the Mrs. Garrett role as she presides over the school, and is forced to deal with the troublemaking students in a plotline that is highly reminiscent of the second season premiere. The new Eastland students included Seth Green, Mayim Bialik and future Oscar-nominee Juliette Lewis.

  2008-06-18 05:20:46 PM
Family Matters is set in the same "TV universe" as several other TV series related to ABC's TGIF:

* Perfect Strangers - Before Family Matters, Harriette Winslow was originally the elevator operator at the Chicago Chronicle newspaper office in the third and fourth seasons of Perfect Strangers. Family Matters was a spin-off series given to this character in 1989. In the second episode of Family Matters, Harriette was fired as elevator operator at the Chronicle, but was soon re-hired as "chief of security", which explained her absence from dealings with the Perfect Strangers cast.
* Full House - In the 1991 episode, "Stephanie Gets Framed", Steve Urkel helps Stephanie Tanner (Jodie Sweetin) deal with her anxiety after she has to get glasses.
* Step by Step - In the original ABC broadcast, the ending gag of Family Matters' third season episode "Brains Over Brawn" is crossed over with the opening of Step By Step's second episode, "The Dance". Urkel's jet-propelled flight pack causes him to fly through the Winslows' roof as one show ends, and crash-land in Port Washington, Wisconsin, where the Lambert-Foster family is enjoying a barbecue as the other show opens. Urkel goes on to help his science-fair pen pal, Mark Foster (Christopher Castile), and lifts Al Lambert's (Christine Lakin) spirits after her potential date dumps her just before a school dance. He reprises his "Do the Urkel" dance in the scene where Al gives the guy who dumped her his comeuppance. Urkel also makes a brief cameo in the 1997 episode "A Star Is Born", snapping a clapperboard on the set of the movie Al was cast in over her two sisters.
* Boy Meets World - Urkel once sent a chain letter to his friend Cory Matthews, (Ben Savage) who lived in Philadelphia. The two never actually appeared together on either show.
* Hangin' with Mr. Cooper - Also a cross-over with Full House.
* Meego - Jaleel White makes an uncredited cameo as Urkel in the first two episodes of this short-lived CBS sitcom (which starred Bronson Pinchot of Perfect Strangers).

Revenge of the Sith was a better movie than most of you internet nerds gave it credit. It's official: the internet has nothing to say regarding criticism that is worth hearing.

Also, who else knew there were backstories on all the skeksis?

The Emperor skekSo

The first skeksis emperor, skekSo is described in The World of The Dark Crystal as having originally been an energetic ruler who enjoyed lavish festivity and sporting events which he invariably won. As he aged however, he became increasingly paranoid and spiteful, even toward his fellow skeksis, elevating individuals to high positions only for the pleasure of seeing them fall later.[7]. Once he died, skekUng succeeded him as emperor. Prior to the actual succession, in the film's deleted scenes, skekSo's decayed remains are gathered and cremated as part of Skeksis funerary tradition.

[edit] The Ritual Master skekZok

An arrogant high priest, skekZok fancied himself as skekSo's closest advisor, and sought to control the other skeksis through false prophecies and apparitions, only to be bitterly discovered they distrusted his divinations and practised their own..[7] skekZok spearheads in the various rituals the Skeksis practice such as the "Ceremony of the Sun", and sees their laws as a aboslute. Though a contender of the throne after skekSo's death, skekZok sides himself with skekUng, who becomes the next emperor. Though he assists in the search for the surviving gelflings with his crystal bats, he is nonetheless distrusted and feared by skekUng.[5] Being a follower of Skeksis law, he is the most eager to finish the Gelfling race quickly. When skekSil arrived with Kira, he was annoyed at skekUng's commands to drain Kira of essence before actually killing her. Ironically, it was skekZok's killing of Kira that marked the Skeksis' downfall.[1]

[edit] The Garthim Master skekUng

Formerly the commander of the brutish garthim soldiers, skekUng was physically the strongest of the skeksis after skekSo. He had a bitter rivalry with the chamberlain skekSil, which culminated in a successful duel for supremacy after the death of skekSo, becoming the new emperor of the Skeksis.[7] Though the other Skeksis admire his ferocity, his constant blundering in the capture of the surviving gelflings fails to evoke the desired respect of his subjects.[5] He is suspicious of skekZok's loyalty, and is constantly fearing a challenge to his authority.[5]

[edit] The Chamberlain skekSil

As Chamberlain, skekSil is second in line to the Skeksis throne, though the confronation with SkekUng in Haakskeekah not only cost him his position, but also led to his exile as a result of SkekUng's first decree. As evidenced before the Emperor's death, SkekSil and SkekUng depised each other, with SkekSil's trademark whimper always vexing SkekUng.

[edit] The Scientist skekTek

The creator of the Garthim soldiers, the other skeksis fear him, as they understand nothing of his work. His fascination with anatomy was so great he went as far as amputating one of his arms and legs, replacing them with mechanical constructs. He also replaced his jugular vein with a transparent external tube, in order to monitor his own circulation.[5] He is a personal nemesis of Aughra, who was once a colleague of his back when he was an UrSkek.[7] Whilst attempting to drain the gelfling Kira of her essence, she managed to rally all the laboratory animals tortured by skekTek to break loose and attack him, resulting with him losing his footing and falling down the crystal shaft towards the magma below.[1]

[edit] The Gourmand skekAyuk

The court gourmet expert, skekAyuk creates a different menu for each feast. His personal favorites are hot spices, sweet liqueurs, and rich cream sauces. Yet in spite of all this, the Skeksis' spiritual disjointment makes them leave each banquet still raging with hunger.

[edit] The Slave Master skekNa

The supervisor and disciplinarian of the pod slaves, he is described in The World of the Dark Crystal as "purely and openly evil from the beginning" and in The Dark Crystal novelization as having "no imagination and no nobility at all". He has an eyepatch and a hook for one hand. He dubiously claims to have an ear for music, and takes it upon himself to select specific slaves for skekTek to experiment upon.[5] Along with skekTek, he is a strong supporter of skekUng, and at one point was considered for promotion to the rank of patriarch for his loyalty.[5]

[edit] The Treasurer skekShod

Administratively skekSil's subordinate,[5] skekShod is incapable of acknowledging anyone's presence unless offered some gift.[7] Due to his limited vocabulary and excessive material desires, bribery is the only way he knows to gain what he wants.[7] He frequently bribes the other skeksis into temporarily loaning him their personal possessions.[7] Along with skekOk, he is a supporter of skekZok.[5]

[edit] The Scroll Keeper skekOk

The Scroll Keeper not only is the finest featured and smallest of the Skeksis, but also the most dishonest as he constantly rewrites the Skeksis' history to suit his allegiances and propaganda needs. His loyalty is to skekZok.

[edit] The Ornamentalist skekEkt

Despite possessing a genuine gift as a designer,[5] skekEkt is nonetheless described in The World of the Dark Crystal as an extremely vain and callous character who would gladly cause the death of countless animals for the sake of fabricating one cloak.[7] According to skekSil's thoughts in The Dark Crystal novelization, skekEkt's uncharismatic depravity was considered excessive, even by the standards of the skeksis, to the point where it would never command their obedience.[5] He has the responsibility of giving the final say in the selection of experimental Pod slaves modified by skekTek for ritual choruses.[5] Along with skekAyuk, he is a supporter of skekSil.[5]

**SPOILERS**

Best thing about "Wanted"?

As far as I know, it's the only movie in which Angelina Jolie bares her ass in one scene, and kills herself in another. Talk about perfection.

Saw an advanced screening of this movie last night. The reviews are pretty spot-on: if you liked "Superbad" and "Knocked Up", you'll probably like this one. Had more laughs than I expected and a hell of a lot more violence than I expected. Not as funny as watching a fat guy you hate fall down the stairs, but easily one of the funniest movies of the summer.

Boy did they finally get Hellboy right. The second movie was really good. I felt bad for the guys in the beginning, though.

What'd he ever do to you?

I hear you.

He was trying to feed me some homespun bulls**t analogies about life.

All I did was tell him to flip over the box and look at the legend on the back, it shows exactly what you're going to get.

He got all mad, threw the box at me, and told me to f**k off.

Sweet simpleton, my ass.

Despite vehement protests, I was coerced into viewing "Step Brothers" last night. I like low-brow humor just as much as the next idiot out there, but really, Will Ferrell has hit a new low with this one. Seriously, it elicited two, maybe two and a half LOLs, and about as many half-hearted chuckles. Even with full suspension of disbelief and the full cognizance that I was watching a Will Ferrell movie, there were certain parts that just had me scratching my head in mind-boggled perturbation. I almost got angry at myself for sitting there, watching John Reilly strive more and more to be Will Ferrell, not just act with him. The improvised "dialogue" always felt forced, and usually just resulted in someone throwing the word "f*ck" in for "comedic effect".

I never even saw "Semi-Pro", but I'm going to go ahead and say that watching it while getting anally raped by a nine-dicked cyborg rhinoceros would probably be funnier than "Step Brothers".

Haha. I LIVE AGAIN!

Does anyone remember the special that FOX aired several years ago about alien abduction? It was supposed to be home video from a family who was abducted by aliens - kind of a Blair Witch Project meets Signs kind of thing. If I recall, Fox hyped the hell out of it, presented it as actual video, etc. Does anyone remember this, and what it was called?

/No real reason, just popped into my head and I was trying to remember what it's called

You know, I am starting to think that there was more thought put into the dance scenes at the end of Strangers With Candy than the actual show itself.

The entire time I was watching Titan AE, I was thinking that for some reason it was so 90s until I realized it was the combination of the hair styles and popular music from the time.

Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist, in a nutshell:

Michael Cera: "I'm lovable because I'm charmingly befuddled. That's right, baby. All the time."

Kat Dennings: "I'll mask my insecurity behind my ostensibly awesome taste in music and amazing tits."

Ari Graynor: "I CHEW GUM AND YELL A LOT."

The band: "You can't hate us because we're gay, we're clever, and we ejaculate sticky, hot levity all over the film's 'conflict'."

Alexis Dziena: "No, I can act, I swear. F*cking listen to me, I...alright, you know what? I get naked in Broken Flowers. Full frontal. Go watch that."

AND THEY ALL LIVE HAPPILY EVER AFTER YAAAAAAAAAAAY

W.T.F?

can someone please give me a quick overview of what I missed at the start?
I felt like I was tripping balls.
