According to his Wikipedia page (new window), Mike died last night of a heart attack at the age of 44. This is also corroborated by a posting on Scott Kurtz's PVP webpage (new window).

Goodbye, Mike. I didn't know you well, but I always loved your work.

From what I understand, he was a health nut.
Go figure.
I knew that health food and exercise were bad for you.

Absolutely heartbreaking. Ringo was one of my favorite artists, and it's just inconceivable that he'd be dead at age 44.

Newsarama.com has an incredible amount of tributes to the man, from fans to comic professionals. He was 1 of a kind, and he's gonna be missed.

Excelsior, Mike.

Man, dead at 44. Way too young.

Damn damn damn shame.
His work on Fantastic Four with Mark Waid was just so awesome. Its really what got me into the FF in the first place.

Died at 44 of a heart attack. Damn.

Damn, he was a great artist. RIP

I hope DC is happy, they killed the man's beloved creation Impulse and broke his heart.

/ok, probably not their fault.
/maybe it is.

He was a great artist. He was one of the first artists I actually followed from book to book a few years back.

Why, WHY, couldn't it be Liefeld?

Why, WHY, couldn't it be Liefeld?

But then who would draw guns and weapons that are 10 times bigger than the person holding them?

Where are all you people getting this "heart attack" nonsense?

FTA: "Details are unclear right now, but early reports say he experienced a sudden and massive heart."

Where are all you people getting this "heart attack" nonsense? Looks like some weird mutant gene got activated in his chest, but things went terribly wrong.

/still liked the man's work
//The Flash was great

His work was the first that I could identify just by looking at it. His style was a big influence on my own work and probably countless others.

R.I.P 'Ringo

Same here.

His art is what I think all comic book art should look like. This is one of the few celebrity deaths that actually got to me. He died way too soon.

"But then who would draw guns and weapons that are 10 times bigger than the person holding them?"

I don't mind that so much, but the one guy who makes the feet way too big really bugs me....

He sketched me a great Robin back when he was doing a run on that, at the Novi Comic Con. Personally this is without a doubt the most shocking and saddening celebrity death since Phil Hartman.

The first year or so of Impulse is fantastic! The issue where Bart gets the entire school involved in a riot on the football field is one of the best comics i have ever read. While everyone else is going for a gritty realism Ringo kept it comic and still kicked the asses of 90% of the artists out there. This is our great loss.

Exactly.

Ringo was the near-perfect comic artist. His art could've been placed in any generation and still been spectacular. Sad to see him go so soon.

Loved his Spidey.
