Didn't I see this in a movie once?

2007-08-13 12:34:03 PM
Haunted? Is that one of those things that has to go into real estate listings?

Oh, that's when they say a place is "charming". As in supernaturally charmed.

2007-08-13 12:34:11 PM
Hello, Gordon.

2007-08-13 12:34:43 PM
How much are they selling it for?

I'd buy it for 20

2007-08-13 12:34:56 PM
Imagine the illegal raves you could have in there.

2007-08-13 12:35:03 PM
Remember that episode of The Simpsons where Bart happens across an auction for an old, dilapidated factory where there were no other bids, so he bids a dollar and buys it, and then he has his own factory full of old office supplies and industrial waste, and it's awesome until it burns down?

I guess what I'm saying is, I'd buy that for a dollar.

Scooby and the gang needs to investigate this place.

/rotten kids...

2007-08-13 12:35:21 PM
I'm baffled as well. Sounds like a hell of a place.

Cool photos at the link below the article. Some real creepy ones in there. I can has insanity?

So the state shoots down proposed plans and then wonders why no one wants to buy it?

2007-08-13 12:36:47 PM
...and it's awesome until it burns down?

Falls down. Millhouse was the night watchman and reported seeing it start to fall over... and then it fell over.

It didn't burn down, it just fell over.

Haunted you say?

I'd love to scope it out. I love Civil War history and possible paranormal locations, but 300k? No thanks.

2007-08-13 12:37:21 PM
possibly not haunted.

FTFY.

I say we pitch in and buy it, then host the next Fark party there.

Sellers forgot to list that it sits in the floodplain of a town renowned for its annual carp festival.

blacknite: we had one of those near the town i grew up in. reminded me of a video game, but it wasn't that cool.

we could put in undead nurses with guns... that would be damn cool.

/everytime I fumble towards the bathroom at 3am I think of Silent Hill 2 and that gottdamn zombie nurse shooting me.
//It's not that I hadn't seen the nurses before, but they always had some hand-to-hand melee weapon. And I distinctly remember thinking "What is she gonna do? Shoot me?" BLAM. She did!!

Looks like my old barracks in Kitizigen Germany, right down to the falling platser and peeling paint.

Ah. The old alma mater.

Brings back memories.

Or does it?

2007-08-13 12:42:27 PM
Actually having been somewhere like that, albeitly not quite as gothic, I would buy it to trash it or burn it to the ground. The kind of shiat that went on/goes on in those sort of places is frightening enough.

2007-08-13 12:42:27 PM
It would be awesome to have this as a Fark castle.

I'm sure in our collective effort we could fix the place up in no time.

or are you scared?

If I had the cash for that place I would buy it in a minute! I can't imagine a better place to make and film puppets than an old haunted mental hospital.

FTFA What could be a problem is opposition by people like former mayor Jon Tucci, who argues that city officials should have a say on the future of a facility that once generated $90,000 a year in tax revenue.

Morgantown contractor Joe Jordan argues that such decisions should be left to the developer.

"If the city of Weston is going to legislate what you're gonna do with it, well hell, they may as well just buy it," he said.

what's with all the ghostbuster references lately?

TFA: The state says it's not required to disclose the extent of possible contamination, other than to acknowledge hazardous materials "may exist in or on the property."

Wtf? Did this line jump out for anyone else? How can a seller not be required to let a buyer know of the hazards? Not even a ballpark figure just "Yeah there might be some bad stuff in there."

2007-08-13 12:52:48 PM
Does it come complete with a psycho-sex offender caretaker?

Probably not since the cops play paintball there.

- Still eeked out from the last abandoned insane asylum I was at.

Weird NJ lists a bunch of old asylums - Greystone, Overbrook, "The Bin", the abandoned one in Menlo. No way would I go there at night.

Looked like the low-bid renovation cost was some $88 million. That's a little more than I'm willing to collect, even though I'd love to have that place as a private residence.

And don't forget the minimum ninety grand a year bribe the city officials want...

If location counts, the hospital has appeal: It's two hours south of Pittsburgh and 4 1/2 hours west of Baltimore.

I LOL'd

Hey it reminds me of my elementary school, was apparently used during the civil war as a hospital. So I guess technically it could have been haunted and we always did like pointing at the floor and wondering if someone bled to death there.

I think when they did renovations they removed decades worth of paint (probably an inch thick in some places) as no one ever cleaned the building but simply painted it over every few years. Apparently the paint was the only thing holding a lot of the outside bricks in place or in one piece. Of course they removed the auditorium and library when I was there to make room for more classrooms. The gym was simply the courtyard of cracking cement outside the building. Ah the joys of having your school be an official historical landmark where the outside can't be changed ever, f***ers.

1) Spruce up grounds and outside
2) Rent the place out for wedding receptions and the like (as per Bryce Asylum in Tuscaloosa, AL)
3) Profit?
