Mrs. Clinton's big numbers might require an asterisk.

Doesn't * = lie?

Yep, she'd make a perfect President.

Meh.
FTFA:
The Clinton campaign scoffed at any suggestion that it could have gamed the system to come out ahead (there is no evidence that it did), pointing out that there was no way to know much money was needed to surpass Mr. Obama in the closing days of the quarter.

I'd be more worried about Obama's plans to invade Pakistan.

Mitt Romney had $514,000, which as a percentage of his total exceeded Mrs. Clinton's, although it never endangered his status as fund-raising leader among the Republicans. Among the other leading candidates, Mr. Obama had $114,000; Rudolph W. Giuliani and John McCain, both Republicans, reported $242,000 and $105,000, respectively; and John Edwards, a Democrat, had $104,000."

Peachy. These are the rocket scientists from whom we're choosing the shepherd of the largest budget in the world and they can't even operate their credit card machines. Imagine if your bank had a 2% error rate. Blech.

FTA: And in one important measure, the amount collected from individuals, it now appears that Mr. Obama surpassed Mrs. Clinton. Mrs. Clinton's overall total included $236,000 from political action committees, while Mr. Obama did not accept money from PACs.

Wow. I am curious if Obama refused money from PACs for this quarter only, or if this is a long-standing policy.

If the latter, then bravo to Obama. One more reason for this centralist Republican to cross over this coming election. PACs are absolutely evil.

Hmm, well how many of the 2% were double charged, and how much was it from people not knowing how much they could contribute, and bounced checks, both are included in the article as other ways that the money could get lopped off the figure later.

Personally I would say that whoever had 2-3% more cash at that point is largely irrelevant - having significantly less cash would hurt your chances, but any two similar amounts it becomes uninteresting which is more, and what is then key is the how it is spent, as it is trivial to spend large amounts of cash on advertising for little effect (ask Pets.com).

I would be pissed off, but every one of these pricks is screwing around. At least in today's age the process is transparent enough that we can see it happening. Perhaps one day, we'll actually do something about the shameless fraudulent and underhanded activity taken by prospective presidential candidates.

I, for one, am not holding my breath. :(

xria: Hmm, well how many of the 2% were double charged, and how much was it from people not knowing how much they could contribute, and bounced checks, both are included in the article as other ways that the money could get lopped off the figure later."

That's a fair point, though it raises questions about the donors -- not understanding the limits or forgetting how much the husband gave v. the wife is perfectly understandable, but what kind of moron bounces a check to a political campaign?

Still, it just seems a little high. What percentage of your local steakhouse's credit card bills could it double charge before an Attorney General called it a pattern and sent the owners off to jail?

"Personally I would say that whoever had 2-3% more cash at that point is largely irrelevant - having significantly less cash would hurt your chances, but any two similar amounts it becomes uninteresting which is more, and what is then key is the how it is spent, as it is trivial to spend large amounts of cash on advertising for little effect (ask Pets.com)."

I agree with that entirely. And to be clear, I don't think there's any kind of shenanigans going on. I just think everyone is disappointingly sloppy. If I were running for President, I think I'd send out the marching order that we're going to run our campaign like we intend to run our administration and that means with six-sigma financial precision, at least of the things we can control. Anyone who said something like, "Meh, it's only half a million" would be out of a campaign job.

I don't think FlashLV is part of that at all.

He has an idiosynchratic posting style that doesn't obsess about liberals and Muslims nearly as much as MightyLeatherAfternoonBentForDogDelight does. Or display the repressed homosexuality.

Flash mainly posts apologia for the GOP and "slams" against specific Dem. politicians. He also uses anecdotal examples about his family a lot.

Hey i'm all for it, mind you a few of the southern states will want to come with us but lets face it...its not like you want them any ways. After we have knocked around the Mexican populace and shown that they are catching and we are pitching in this relationship we can get geared up for the sure to be fun land skirmish between the Allied Southerners and yankee imperialist dogs who are mucking with our way of life.

Thankfully due to the likely milliatary budget cuts and apeasement policies set forth by far left wing leaders unchecked in elections by those big meanie red staters. We should have no problem leaning on the northern former cousins for a yearly "stipend" to help along the souths already significant federal budget. A budget that would already be growing leaps and bounds due to having unprecedented control over the entire Gulf of Mexico (now the Gulf of Texas) and all oil contained there.

I like this plan, I would be proud to be a part of this plan.

Oh also you get to keep G.W Bush, cause hes not actually a Texan. Hes from New Haven Connecticut. Enjoy!

HellBent is most definitely a different guy than these new schmoes, that guy was an innovator, he made popular the asinine tagline at the end of each post and he made the "liberal hate" meme what it is today, these noobs are just shadows of that. And, the really real reason I know these guys aren't him is because none of their posts have any misogyny in them and that was a big theme with the real deal.

Her campaign has since had to subtract hundreds of thousands of dollars from its first-quarter total because of a variety of problems, including donors whose credit cards were mistakenly charged twice, contributions exceeding the legal limit and checks that bounced. As a result, her total was reduced to $25.6 million - dead even with Mr. Obama, whose first-quarter take also shrank, albeit to a lesser degree.

Oops.

Some aren't really an "oops". You have to deposit and report every contribution, even if you know you're just going to have to refund some or all of it. I imagine a lot were $4600 checks where the donor failed to explicitly say $2300 was for the general and $2300 was for the primary and the campaign couldn't get a hold of them to reattribute the amount.
