I'm tired of kitten stuff on the internet, period. I'm actually getting tired of Fark. What the hell is wrong with me? I thought that I was addicted to this place, but I got a job and started leaving the house and not-so-all of a sudden, it's just not the same. I don't find myself staring bloodshot into the monitor at three in the morn anymore. I want it back!!!

2002-09-14 07:13:45 PM
What the...
I was expecting mean looking kittens, and what do I get? cute cats. I want hissing, fighting, bighting, scratching, bloodied, and mangled cats!

Having worked at an animal shelter for a few summers (one of the highest paying legal jobs you can get at 16 interestingly), cats are pure evil. I can't understand why people want them as pets. While working there over a 3 year period, not once was I ever attacked by a dog, but the cats... they're ferocious. Nothing quiet gets the heart pounding like an escaped 35 lbs feral cat. Also, why would you want a pet that shiats and pisses in your house? If they could be trained to use a toilet, it would be different.

Don't take a dog for a walk and see what happens.
I don't remember a trial recently where a giant cat mauled and killed a woman in SF either....

I'd rather have a bat loose in my house than a cat.

I love that god damn possumkitty

Even though we feed and house her, she doesn't seem to want any lovin'. She will hiss and bare her odd needle-like teeth if any of us get very close to her, even when we are careful to offer a tempting bit of cheese or tuna. I mean, cats like cheese and tuna, right?

Peterthx,

That's because the owner never was stupid enough not to train the dog and not have it on a leash.

A dog, like a child, needs to be taught how to live in society. Not everyone is capable of being a good pet owner (and a lot of people just aren't good parents). While some dogs are inherently good, most need to be taught to respect people, property and other animals. This is fairly easy to do, yet most people bring a new dog home, throw it in a yard, and that's that. Now there are some dogs that do suffer from psychological problems which can't be fixed, and it's up to the owner to recognize this. For instance, my dog is aggressive towards other animals because she was attacked by other dogs before we adopted her. She barks at every animal in sight and tries to chase them, though she will never actually attack them. Because of this, we always walk her on a leash, walk her at times when most dog owners don't walk their dogs, and walk her on streets that most dog owners don't use. From working at a shelter, I know first hand that there are a lot of people who would try and walk my dog off a leash. In fact, we are constantly getting owners who complain that their newly adopted dog runs away when not on a leash, barks and goes to the bathroom in the house. When you ask them if they've tried training the dog, they give you a blank look.

So to summarize and go back to your comment, almost always a dog's poor behavior can be attributed to the owner. And because of that, the shelter I work at often turns down people who want to adopt a dog (not enough in my opinion).

With cats, it's nearly impossible to train them. A lot of the animals which come into the shelter are aggressive and anxious because they've been abandoned or abused. With a little socialization, you can calm most dogs down. Cats though, if they're feral we have no choice but to put them down. Also, as stated before, the dogs rairly actually attack people no matter how messed up they are; they just growl. But with the cats, there are some employees who refuse to handle them because they can be so wild.

Whenever one of the girls go out he's always there and ready to harass. Both my girls are de-sexed and he isn't, so I bet you can guess what he wants to do! He jumps on their backs and yowls and the girls end up escaping to the top of the tree in the backyard. Oh, and just to keep you updated Shelley and Chloe still don't get along, but they have improved very slightly which I guess I should be grateful for.

From Marrins "bio" (for lack of a better word: His body clock (or is it his stomach?) wakes him everyday at 5:30am, and he believes that if he is awake, you should be too!...he has developed several methods of getting the bedroom door open. The first was to bite my nose, but he gave this up immediately, as he did not enjoy being a flying kitty.

ROFL, Yep that's my car alright!!!!

My Border Collie and I love cats. Now, I'll admit it is an acquired taste, but if they're properly prepared they can make for quite a nice little snack. Rio even likes to eat their poop, once it's been properly dried. MMMMmmmm crunchy !
