I think Bolivia should claim the North Pole.

Nobody would ever expect it!

Denmark? DENMARK?

The Arctic belongs to Canada!

/fark off everybody else!

Personally, I don't care for frozen Danish.

This months issue of Harpers has an interesting article on the Arctic land (?) grab. It seems that the U.S. is positioned to control some additional 4M sq. miles of territory once we sign on to UNCLOS. Nice.

Arctic not arctic circle. Submitter needs to take brush up on his geography a wee bit.

Anyone up for an expedition to claim a chunk of this for Farkistan?

2007-08-10 03:25:02 PM
Alright, it's time to get some (a lot of) beer and a shotgun my fellow canadians. I won't stand for this, and neither should you. If Santa's address is in the north pole, and he's definitely got a canadian postal code, this shouldn't even be an issue.

2007-08-10 03:25:16 PM
It's a submerged land rush! It's like the Cherokee Strip, only damper. And colder. And saltier. With more fish. And fewer covered wagons.

Other than that, it's pretty much the same thing.

/Just wait till those damn Belgians get involved.
//They'll probably start homesteading it.
///Stupid Flanders.

The pressure is also on the Arctic nations because of the 1982 U.N. Convention on the Law of the Sea, which gives them 10 years after ratification to prove their claims under the largely uncharted polar ice pack. All but the United States have ratified the treaty.

We'll we better hurry and sign the damn thing before it's all gone. Granted we have little to claim anyway, especially compared to Canada, Russia and Denmark. I doubt that once the ocean opens up for shipping that Canada will be overly friendly and let us trough cheaply, they're still pissed at making Canadians have passports to get into the US.)

Not quite. When Mr. Greenjeans died a few years back, Greenland became the sole property of that disgruntled frog from New Zoo Review:

You motherfarkers fight over that frozen wasteland that's due, according to Algore, to be a big lake in 50 years. I'll be down in St. Maarten listening to Jimmy Buffett, drinking the agave.

Seriously, the North Pole? Why can't they do like with the South Pole and basically leave it unclaimed, and multi-national?

"In the beginning, there were dinosaurs. But they got fat and died and turned into oil."

Now... I'm curious about something... How could there really be a huge oil deposit at the north pole. Assuming that it's always been the north pole, I seriously doubt that any animals lived there that could have left such a huge deposit of fossil fuel.

That's pretty strange. Or maybe I just don't know shiat about where oil really comes from. Perhaps that quote from Airplane isn't the whole story.

Aaaaaaaaaaah! The acid-fueled abominations of the Krofts are returning to haunt me! I remember having nightmares as a kid about these shows, and I might lose all sanity if I was forced to watch them again. Heading to Amazon...

you guys can fight over the north pole, we already claimed the moon.

Sincerely,
The USA
