I hate when people try to pass off ignorance of sports as some kind of intelligence. Elton Brand has been an MVP candidate for the National Basketball Association's Los Angeles Clippers.

/OMFG, I have no idea what any of that is! I was engaged in intellectual pursuits and cultural enrichment!

Brand=typical injury-prone dookie who'll continue to burnish K's legacy in street clothes behind the bench.

Certainly You Jest: Brand=typical injury-prone dookie who'll continue to burnish K's legacy in street clothes behind the bench.

You, sir, have no idea what you're talking about. I hate dookies with guesto, but Mr. Brand has never been injury-prone and is one of the better players in the Association on and off the court. Tonight, I drink to you, Elton Brand!

Back to the basement Clipper fans. Future franchise player Shaun Livingstons career is over and now the current franchise players career is over. The Clippers need to sell their souls to the devil like the Celtics did.

Alton Brown needs to be more careful.

2007-08-03 09:24:08 PM
"I remember when headlines on Fark were funny"

And it's mysteriously tagged as "scary." What, is this the first of a series of tendon ruptures, each of which will take out a three city block radius with flying basketball-man parts?

john_d_corr: This is news? Who are the L.A. Clippers? Who is Elton Brand?

I guess I can understand why you'd be confused, since there's no basketball teams in Pennsylvania.

WhyteRaven74: Last season, Lakers 42 and 40, Clippers 40 and 42. I remember when the Clippers were a sure doormat and Lakers were a sure 55 plus win team.

2 seasons ago, the Clippers were in the 2nd round of the playoffs and had a better regular season record than the Lakers. This Brand news will put them in more of a decline. Looks like that was a one-year deal, even with the young talent that team had. Livingston has the ugliest landing on a breakaway I've ever seen and now this. So long, future!

D-Liver: I hate when people try to pass off ignorance of sports as some kind of intelligence. Elton Brand has been an MVP candidate for the National Basketball Association's Los Angeles Clippers.

Amen.

2007-08-03 09:26:17 PM
Salts:
I didn't mean that Brand himself was injury-prone, and did not mean to impugn his character--I've never heard a first bad word about his behavior off the court. However, he's suddenly become yet another high-profile dookie who'll wear a street-clothes uniform in the NBA this year. He'll probably still outscore JJ, though.

/sorry about your fantasy team

2007-08-03 09:29:19 PM
Poor bastihd. That's gotta hurt.

That said, "Clippers" and "star" really, I'm sorry, do not belong in the same sentence. The second coming (okay, third) of Michael Jordan could not help the Clippers.

2007-08-03 09:31:04 PM
It'd be nice to get a link to the article on Fark instead of a link to a link to the article.

zorgon: That said, "Clippers" and "star" really, I'm sorry, do not belong in the same sentence. The second coming (okay, third) of Michael Jordan could not help the Clippers.

It's appropriate for Brand. No one said "superstar", but the guy was definitely a star.

And I see why the ignorant people are posting, it's on the mainpage. Hate when that happens to a good sports thread.

2007-08-03 09:37:23 PM
"It'd be nice to get a link to the pint of the beer that Drew buys with the money he gets whenever a Sports By Breasts article is posted on Fark."

What a wimp. He's got another one.

When I went to school, in an indoors gym class a teacher wanted to demonstrate some jump the students were supposed to do - so he ran, hit the spring board and with a loud BANG both his tendons were gone.
I'm thankful I didn't witness that myself.

I should relish any injury to a former Duke player, but DAMN. That's a bad break. I hate most Duke players out of reflex, but Elton defied my normal bias. The guy was GOOD.

On a related note, I tore my calf muscle last night. Playing softball. Taking off from first base on a ground ball. How pathetic is that?

I saw the ball hit on the ground towards third base, I put my head down and pushed off the bag to start to run it out. Got two steps off the bag, felt like the someone hit the back of my calf with a ball shot out of a cannon and then I heard 3 distinct "pops". I went down like a sack of potatoes and crawled off the field. Worst pain I have felt since I did the same thing to a hamstring 12 years ago.

Should of learned my lesson the first time around and stretched it out a bit.

He sold drugs while in high school.

/fellow Peekskill alumnus
//scored a layup against him in gym class

Well, at least he was smart and invested in a production company. He could make millions producing films if basketball doesn't work out for him.

2007-08-03 11:34:55 PM
Smiththerighteous: Now that is a painful injury.

I never completely ruptured an achilles tendon, but I have had two tears, and what's surprising is how little it hurts - at least in comparison to ankle sprains, bone spurs on big toes, etc. There's not nearly the swelling or inflammation when the largest tendon in the body tears.

/Did it playing hoops
//Didn't even know I was injured at first as there was no pain.
///My big toe spurs would sometimes drop me with pain if I stepped wrong.

2007-08-03 11:51:47 PM
i can see why this would be on ESPN or yahoo sports, but to be greenlighted on fark????? maybe if shaq's rectum had ruptured under mysterious circumstances or if kobe's head assploded but a torn tendon from a player on the clippers.... really???

Salts that is the first time i've ever heard anyone refer to the NBA as "the Association" - maybe you can make it catch on, with a capital A and everything!

/sounds more like a conspiracy nut's wet dream

2007-08-04 12:05:23 AM
Uhm, I went to Peekskill too, and the Elton Brand I knew didn't sell drugs...

I have to say, we expected him to forget his roots, but he still comes back fairly regularly to give $$ to some local charities or run a clinic for disadvantaged youth. And he bought his momma a real nice house or two, I heard.

I still don't like basketball, but he's an mostly good guy.

2007-08-04 12:09:08 AM
blitzy: maybe if shaq's rectum had ruptured....

Now that's something I could get behind!

/Not really
//But thanks for the straight line
///The scary tag is indeed grossly misused in this instance.

Same here... When it happened, I actually thought that someone had kicked me from behind.

He will be out of action for around 9 months or so... very slow injury to recover from.

\Obscure, only hard-core Morrowind players would know.

76er's?

2007-08-04 03:31:09 AM
I ruptured one of my achilles while running ten years ago and just collapsed in pain.I think the scary part was when the doctor told me they just pop sometimes and there is nothing you really can do to prevent it.

2007-08-04 03:35:53 AM
eeedlef: 76er's?

that's the joke. See, I actually KNOW the basics of the major American sports. :-P

/the joke is that the Sixers suck so bad they're not worthy of being called a basketball team

Oh, okay! Basketball! I see now.

Um...

They still play that?
