Just get a sex change then you can get your cheap drinks Mrs. Horner. I'm sure it's about as inexpensive to do as this lawsuit.

Why don't they award prizes to men in wet tshirt contests? >:(

This is a guy who doesn't understand just how many ways our society discriminated in favor of white men. We have absolutely NO credibility when we claim to "suffer" from discrimination.

Heck, this is even a case where discrimination against men is aimed at HELPING men...

lucyfer-this case reeks of some asshat who couldnt get laid in a whorehouse with a $100 bill hanging out of his fly.

You suppose this is the guy from yesterdays thread whos hooker didn't finish the job?

First of all, this.

Second, this idiot needs a hobby, a hooker, a job, or something. He obviously has waaaay to much time on his hands. He should have been fined for wasting the court's time and money.

Yeah. I lived in Mpls most of my life. The bike crew in Phoenix is a lot better. Except when they decide to ride 3 wide. That pisses me off.

I used to think Mpls was an OK place until I moved to Los Angeles for a year. Came back to Mpls & realized the place is loaded with whiney biatches & busy bodies. I couldn't believe I didn't notice it before. Funny how a slight change in perspective can blow your perception of a place.

My grandma gets 30% off at Goodwill on Wednesdays, and a free salad at Ruby Tuesdays....all this because of her age. I wouldn't consider THAT discriminatory, just like ladies night isn't.

why should i have to pay double or triple for the same drink because i have a massive penis? it's a penis tax and that's discrimination. grow a pair and then come talk to me about it.

if i only charged hispanics to drink at my club, i'd be shut down. how is this different? oh, you are looking for pussy - i see.

Great guys. What say we recognize feminism when we see it and not celebrate the continued pussification of the American male. We can't have male-only activities anymore but *ANYTHING FOR THE POOR OPPRESSED WOMEN*.

Grow a pair.

I agree with the men that it is discriminatory, but I also realize why they do it. I think they think in the end it is for the men.

It is discriminatory. I don't doubt that. However, since we live in the real world, and not a courthouse:

What male or female would object to this? Someone gets something good, and since everyone else and their mother can't get it, some jerkwad feels like he LOST something? What did he lose?

Now if I was a tranny, lemme tell you I'd be pissed, though I might not know whence.

2007-08-03 02:19:48 PM
Since guys almost always buy the women drinks, does it really matter? Hey, send her up to the bar to buy drinks on my tab and bring them back to the table -- problem solved.

It is not that hard.

2007-08-03 02:19:56 PM
Let me put aside all the obvious reasons this was a dumb lawsuit. To get to the heart of the matter: Alcohol is legal. If you want to get it "cheap" go buy a bottle or three! Bars don't sell alcohol, though if you want to pretend that's what they do, you get stupid lawsuits like this.

2007-08-03 02:20:53 PM
Eh, I think there is a valid argument there.

While it's a minor thing that no one really cares about, it is discrimination to offer cheap drinks to one group while not another. Change it from Sex, to the other things that are protected from discrimination under the same laws, like Race or Religion. If a bar was to offer "White's Night" or "Hispanic's Night" it would prolly draw a lot of flack and get shut down.

notfarksmart

Not quite. The purpose is to get a bunch of women there for cheap drinks to draw guy's to the bar like sharks to chum. Then the guys pay twice the normal price for drinks, even the ones they buy for the women because even at 10c drinks women still don't buy them when they can send a guy to the bar vs. getting up. It's all about taking advantage of dumb guy's.

2007-08-03 02:21:18 PM
asciibaron: why should i have to pay double or triple for the same drink because i have a massive penis? it's a penis tax and that's discrimination.

Thing is, you could just get yourself a bottle of Jack and a 2-liter of Coke and drink yourself drunk at home for 1/10th the price as going to a club. You choose to go drink at a bar.

if i only charged hispanics to drink at my club, i'd be shut down. how is this different?

Difference is that all "races" contain men and women. You typically don't have a hispanic aleut, for instance, by definition (unless one person from each "race" decide to procreate, then who knows).

/just being inflammatory

On a side note,

I enjoy Ladies night because I know several girls who don't mind getting the drinks from the bar. So that means I get 10c drinks all night too. Just have to hide my "special ladies only" cup when the bouncer walks by :-)

2007-08-03 02:22:37 PM
To be fair, we all know that a bar offering lower prices to men only would be shut down pretty quickly. Also, it should be pointed out that that "ladies night" constitutes nothing but discrimination... that's the whole point... anyone who calls it anything else needs to pick up a dictionary and get to work.

It would onyl be shut down because no one would go to it. All of the men would be at the bar with the girls, and all of the girls are at the bar where they get free drinks.

a)entice them with drink special
b)drunk women attract men LIKE CHUM
2)Men CUM looking for drunk women
a)men like easy drunk women
b)FUGLY men can score with other FUGLY drunk women
3)PROFIT

Have no problem with this in a free enterprise system where women usally make less money so can't affort to go out and old school enough that you can look like a big spender cause you get a discount when you buy a lady a drink

P.S. In case you did not know, recent studies have found that young women (20's) living in major cities make MORE money than young men of the same age, so this is a DOUBLE rip off

I object to it. I am happily married and as a result am not cruising to take advantage of drunk girls. Why should I pay two to three times for my beer? Because I am a man?

As for why there are no men's only clubs? Women sued them out of existance...

Why can't a business include or exclude any group it wants?

If the proprietor wants to exclude women/blacks/Yankee fans/whoever from his or her establishment, that is or her perogative. The marketplace would fix any sort of real discrimination occurring if a large enough portion of the market felt such exclusion was unjust and chose not to do business there.

Voluntary exchange is such a simple concept.

proteus_b: das boot

Capitalism, jackass. If there were a market for men-only gyms, then they'd spring up. Fact is, half the guys in the gym only seem to be there for the purpose of ogling the girls (I belong to this half. The other half of the men are only there to ogle themselves, which is actually even more disturbing.)

The nauseating and asphyxiating culture of political correctness is a bunch of horseshiat, but it didn't spring up out of nowhere.

And if you honestly believe its only about capitalism, go look up some lawsuit history. The reason few men only gyms exist anymore is some feminist/woman firster type will likely get her panties in a wad that she can't go into some place of business. (see Martha Burke's protest of the male member only Augusta Golf club aka home of the masters tourney)

Places like Curves for Women (now its only Curves iirc) are discriminatory. As are ladies nights. Now, most reasonable men dont care about ladies nights. I think its discriminatory but its not the end of the world. Its of benefit to men and women as mentioned above by others. Most women get their drinks paid for anyway...

Curves does bother me, simply because I've read about enough dumb lawsuits that have been won, to force some gyms co-ed. I know many guys (myself included) who don't want to work out with women, because its a distraction in many ways, or they take up machines/space away from men (more cardio equipment than weight machines). Women often use those gyms as hookup places/oogle men just as much as men do the same to women there. Curves wouldn't bother me if I knew that a male only gym (advertised as such directly or indirectly) wasn't likely to be deemed as "sexist". Its the double standard that pisses me off.

Utimately, I think in the next 20-30 years you'll see more places with a "gents night" to get guys to come in to attract more women. You can already see it with all the jokes about various "singles night" and "mixers" for folks over 30 being full of lonely, often desperate women.

As for this FTA:
As the trial ended, Westword Editor Patricia Calhoun said, "I'm running to the ladies room." Turning to Horner, she added, "You don't object, do you?"

This is not funny or cute or "witty" or anywhere near "burn" status. No one objects to "ladies rooms" because we do have "mens rooms". Unless of course you talk about some venues where groups have asked that women get more restroom space than men, because they take longer to go.

2007-08-03 02:32:06 PM
Drunk women are this nations greatest resource. You may as well be wiping your arse with the flag in my book if you are trying to stop the rest of us from cashing in on natures goodness.

For purple mountains majesty above the fruited plain! America! America! God sheds his grace on thee!

That clearly refers to ladies night.

just commenting on the social aspects of our society. personally they don't affect me much, as I'm teh ghey.

I've never bought a drink for myself in a gay bar. I was a stripper and while we didn't have wet T-shirt contests, we did have wet jock strap contests.

I do think that it's rediculous that people march and have fund raisers for breast cancer research when more people die every year from prostate cancer than all other cancers combined.

When you organize a march for prostate cancer research, I'll contribute to your bewbs getting squished in a machine.

I was going to post that while this guy is an asshat, he has a point about the discrimination.

Then I looked up the federal civil rights act:

Sec. 201. (a) All persons shall be entitled to the full and equal enjoyment of the goods, services, facilities, privileges, advantages, and accommodations of any place of public accommodation, as defined in this section, without discrimination or segregation on the ground of race, color, religion, or national origin.

It doesn't really mention sex in there. Sex IS included with regards to hiring employees, though:

Sec. 703. (a) It shall be an unlawful employment practice for an employer --
(1) to fail or refuse to hire or to discharge any individual, or otherwise to discriminate against any individual with respect to his compensation, terms, conditions, or privileges of employment, because of such individual's race, color, religion, sex, or national origin;

I find that interesting, although I guess that's how we can have men-only and women-only clubs and colleges, etc.

Sure, it's discrimination.

But discrimination isn't a dirty word, no matter how much people try to make it so.

Businesses perform price discrimination all the time. Senior citizen discounts, higher prices for business travelers on airlines, higher prices for women for cosmetics, whatever. It is a perfectly efficient activity, and in this case it benefits all parties involved.

Discrimination lets people that assess a higher value on things pay for those who do not. As other people have said, guys don't generally go to bars for drinks - it's not their primary purpose. Ladies come for the drinks. So the guys are getting a higher value out of the bar - and they pay more, subsidizing the prices for the ladies. Everyone wins, because people are paying the value that they perceive.

I guess I don't get the objection, unless for some nonexistant concept of fairness. If everyone wins, what exactly is the problem?

As the trial ended, Westword Editor Patricia Calhoun said, "I'm running to the ladies room." Turning to Horner, she added, "You don't object, do you?"

The guy is a farktard, but this is pretty stupid too. It just highlights how at least some women think that they should be considered exactly the same as men... except when it inconveniences them. Women are not exactly the same as men, and the sooner everyone of both sexes figures that out, the better off we'll all be.

scseth: daas_boot: When can we have men's studies classes in college?

We do, its called History 101.

He said "men's studies," not "men's history." Women's studies is a pointless field anyway though, so men's studies would be just as dumb.

When can we have health clinics called "men's health services"?

When you menstruate

That doesn't make any sense; men have unique health concerns as well. Of course, since men don't tend to go to the hospital unless something is really wrong with them (which is probably the big reason why they die quicker than women), there wouldn't be much economic incentive to men's clinics.

I'm pretty sure doing this is a BIG no-no....

:(

this guy is a tool though. he obviously doesn't have much going on in his life. sure it's discriminatory, but no one really minds (except guys like him). i think gay guys could have a reason to get annoyed, but you know? gay guys are more likely to go to gay bars, which won't be holding lady nights anyways.

2007-08-03 02:38:27 PM
What people have failed to mention is that a private establishment is free to discriminate all they want. They can charge what they want and they can include or exclude whomever they want. While Mr. Horner does not like them advertising the exercise of their constitutional right, he is not constitutionally protected from being upset.
