I remember readin' about the Pacific Ring of Fire 30 years ago & it said the Ring went off every 1100-1200 years & it was about time.

For having a population of 11, that island chain makes the news a lot. There are stories about volcanoes, internet gambling, and Survivor all the damn time.

Pacific Ring of Fire, can't you get a cream for that?

Actually, I have some good friends down there. They moved there to help some villages establish schools and do construction and provide healthcare. So I certainly am hoping everyone is safe.

www.onlyolivia.com

A place where nobody dared to go
The love that we came to know
They call it Vanatu

And now
Open your eyes and see
What we have made is real
We are in Vanatu

A million lights are dancing
And there you are
A shooting star
An everlasting world
And you're here with me
Eternally

Vanatu, Vanatu,
(now we are here)
In Vanatu
Vanatu, Vanatu,
(now we are here)
In Vanatu

Vanatu, your neon lights will shine
For you, Vanatu

The love
The echoes of long ago
You needed the world to know
They are in Vanatu

The dream
That came through a million years
That lived on through all the tears
It came to Vanatu

A million lights are dancing
And there you are
A shooting star
An everlasting world
And you're here with me
Eternally

Vanatu, Vanatu,
(now we are here)
In Vanatu
Vanatu, Vanatu,
(now we are here)
In Vanatu

Now that I'm here
Now that you're near in Vanatu
Now that I'm here
Now that you're near in Vanatu
Vanatu...

Or mate, then panic. Either one's fine.

2007-08-01 02:34:14 PM
OH NOOO IT'S BUSH'S EARTHQUAKE MACHINE AGAIN

2007-08-01 02:36:43 PM
The quake was at a depth of 107.3 miles (172.7 km), USGS said. The epicenter was also 1,240 miles (1,996 km) northeast of Brisbane, Australia.

"Based on all available data a destructive Pacific-wide tsunami not expected and there is no tsunami threat to Hawaii," read an advisory from the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center.

So - probably one of those - "Hey, did you feel something" events.

2007-08-01 02:37:40 PM
Why do we need to mate?

Smitty put 'Mate' in the headline. That's a FAIL.

Been there. No one out in the atolls uses Aussie slang - they have their own. Vanuatu people say stuff like 'I ka nan mongai kidjrik kolole'.

Love is a burning thing
and it makes a fiery ring
bound by wild desire
I fell in to a ring of fire...

I fell in to a Pacific ring of fire
I went down,down,down
and the flames went higher.
And it burns,burns,burns
the ring of fire
the ring of fire.

The taste of love is sweet
when hearts like our's meet
I fell for you like a child
oh, but the fire went wild..

I fell in to a Pacific ring of fire.

Anyone else notice that the national anthem there is called "Yumi, Yumi Yumi"???

Now I'm going to have that 60's bubblegum pop song "Yummy, Yummy, Yummy" in my head all day. Yeah, I know it's not the same thing.

/and now you're going to have it too
//you're welcome

Foolish unbelievers, it's John Frum waking up to give cargo to those who avoid white men and keep kastom.

right in the middle of the islands too... awesome.

probably tens of people dead and hundreds of rodents homeless.

Kidding aside that had to be farkING NASTY to be near. Quake obviously occured in the island chain's root, with that level it is likely a magma event as well.

Vanuatu used to be (and may still be) where a lot of international adult phone calls were placed to. back in the day when I worked at AT&T I had to explain many times where little johnny was calling and that the odds were it was an adult orientated phone call.
