When we'd play H&S when I was little it was like 9-12 kids around the neighborhood so anywhere on the block was fair game. The winners were always the nasty little kids who didn't mind hiding in half full trashcans and muddy wormy crawl-unders near and around houses.

When we were little, my cousin and I used to make our younger siblings play hide and seek to get rid of them. They would "hide" and we would just go off and play Barbies for an hour. "Wow, you guys are really good hiders."

/didn't know there were Mexican Mennonites

SuperCrackMonkey: /didn't know there were Mexican Mennonites

There are lots of Mennonites and Mormons in Northern Mexico (Chihuahua). The Mennonites are known for their high-quality dairy products. Queso menonita is AWESOME for quesadillas.

Hey, there's three... count 'em... THREE Chinese buffets in Belleville. That's diversity, redneck style! I think I've seen... maybe a dozen non-white people in Belleville.

Adman12 In other news, Sandbanks Provincial Park has one of the finest natural beaches in Canada. I don't blame the little man for wanting to live there.

Mennonites and other Anabaptists generally speak German and live all over the world. Sometimes they live in colonies, like you'd find in North and South Dakota in the U.S. and the plains regions of Canada (they are mostly farmers). Large amounts, however, live in Mexico because there's alot of privacy there and the people are more receptive to missionaries.

unremarkable asterisk: Can somebody translate that article from Canadian to American for me?

Okay:

Missing white boy found

Reportedly fair-haired and Christian, but spoke weird foreign language

CANADA (Not the USA), July somethingth - A missing white boy was found in a cornfield in Canada, almost a day after he went missing. Surprisingly, he didn't freeze to death in the sub-zero Canadian summer weather.

Mounties in funny red uniforms say that the boy, while white and Christian, belonged to some commie pacifist sect, did not speak English, and had a foreign name. While he is rumored to have come up from Mexico, he is not believed to be an illegal immigrant, a handyman, or a gang member.

He was found in a really big field in Canada, not far from where Avril Lavigne is from, with the help of dogs and friendly Eskimos. Something something something... "aboot"... joke about value of the Canadian dollar, despite the fact it is fast approaching parity, eh? Rush rules!

Pajama top and coveralls?

Typical menswear for Mennonites, Hutterites, etc. Girls wear long calico dresses with aprons and bonnets. Straight outta the wagon train. The first thing I thought when I saw the picture of the kid in the article was "That boy's a Mennonite!"

2007-07-31 01:51:36 PM
The boy's parents, Mennonites who are originally from Mexico, work on a farm in the area.

Could have just said "The boy's parents are Mexicans."

2007-07-31 01:51:51 PM
Good job Subby, that headline is full of win!

Having grown up in a Mennonite town I can tell you that they are a lot like a little Germany. Low German (a regional dialect) is spoken more than English. I can't speak it myself, but I can usually follow a conversation.

Mennonites are kind of like the Jews in that they have been persecuted across Europe/Asia for centuries and spent a lot of time moving around. A lot of them moved to North America the first chance they got. If I understand correctly, there's about fifty thousand of them down in Mexico and a couple hundred thousand at least in Canada.

A fun fact is that some of the less moral Mennonites have established what is known as the Mennonite Connection, one of the more successful drug distribution networks in North America. They run cocaine from Latin America through Mexico, the Midwest States, and into Canada. They run BC Bud back down south.

2007-07-31 01:52:22 PM
Searchers feared for the boy's well-being, as temperatures climbed close to 30 C on Monday afternoon.

WTF 86 degrees and they feared for his well-being? What that he might perspire....f'n whatever. In my day I shoveled 300 degree asphalt on a 110 degree day in the middle of BFE Texas.

Dang Mexican/Canadian/Mennonite/German speeking pussies.

Could have just said "The boy's parents are Mexicans."

Why? Because they're not Mexicans, they just dwell there. Just like they don't believe they're Americans when they live in the U.S.

2007-07-31 01:55:25 PM
I should also mention that some Mennonite sects are communal, living in much the way the Amish do, although they use modern technology to farm.

Most Mennonites these days live like we do but follow the Mennonite religion.
