not hard.

Know thyself. There's no blanket answer to how much and what you should eat. You have to figure out what works for your body. My hubby can eat pasta until the cows come home without gaining a pound. I have to really watch the portion size or I'll blimp up. For me 1200-1500 calories a day is enough to maintain my current weight, which is still a bit on the chubby side. And I know that I will never lose weight on diet alone. My metabolism is rather slow and exercise while continuing to watch my diet is the only way I can shed a pound. Quit whining and start trying harder. If it's not working, cut some more calories and increase the work out intensity until you hit a point where it does start working. And accept that it will take time. I exercised 5 days a week and for the first 3 months I didn't loose a pound. Then in the 4th month I dropped 10 pounds.

zekebullseye: The amazing thing is how many outrageously fat infants I see. Their parents give them way too much formula from the moment they're out of the womb. It's insane. Parents tell me they give their babies as much 8 oz of formula every 2 hours--to their 2 month old! (4 ounces every 4 hours is more like it.) Then I watch the kids grow up still topping the weight curves on the growth chart.

My one cousin went the extreme opposite end -- she thought her sister's baby was 'too fat' because her sister fed part formula, part breast. I saw this kid -- he was a good-sized baby but not fat by any means. So she starved her kid because she didn't want a fat baby, and now that she's more than a year old, they were having her tested for genetic problems because she is far too small for her age. No problems -- just malnutrition. It's a baby, not a damn supermodel.

ItchyMcknobster: Just as predicted, the fat-hating perfect people are out in force.

But when I pose the question, "why am I over weight when I eat about the same as you?", you do nothing but mock me, instead of siting facts to back up your nonexistent reasoning...

Change your farking tactics son. If it's a glandular problem then go to a doctor, but you know that's not what it is. And no, not everybody eats the same as you or we'd all be huge. Why don't you take your apathy for your condition and your hate for healthy people and use that as your motivation to lose weight.

Who diagnosed you? A doctor or yourself? How many calories do you actually take in each day? How much exercise do you get and do you use a heartrate monitor?

If you can't answer any of these questions, chances are you're fat because of your choices, not your glands or hormones.

I have a bench press in my basement that I had been using on a consistent basis and it did not seem to make a difference. I have not heard of this other drug that you mentioned but thanks for the advice.

I hope you do more than bench. If you only were to do one single lift, I'd say it's a tossup between squats and deadlifts. That being said, you better be doing at least squats, deadlifts, bench, and military press. Preferably toss in some power cleans, weighted chin ups, and weighted dips to boot. And do everything heavy. I mean really heavy. Try for ~85-95% of your 1 rep max. I personally do ~85% my 1RM and do 5x5. Once I manage a 5x5 on a lift I up the weight by 5 lbs and start over. Brain dead simple and works pretty well.

That all being said, I'm going the opposite direction of you. Started out average weight and am trying to gain weight: 150 to 185 lbs (5'9") in 1 year...kinda slow, but meh.

hormone use in poultry is inneffective (due to the anatomy of the digestive track - hormones have to be injected to each bird daily and its not economical, and the birds are already at top performance, any more muscle bulk would hurt performance) and they are also illegal.

they do use them in cattle though...

Here's a weightloss tip: Avoid the following:

1. Corn Syrup
2. Enriched Flour
3. Any type of sugar that didn't come from you eating a raw, fresh fruit.

Do the following:

1. Walk for 45min a day, preferably after dinner.

I guarentee the pounds will melt off. If they don't, the GO SEE A DOCTOR. Don't just come to the conclusion "Well, like, it didn't work so *clearly* there's something wrong with my genes! omg!"

I love how all of you try to pin my weight on my lack of responsibility when, I'll bet, the majority of you have drank/done drugs/drove like a jerk/who knows what else, in the past week alone and won't take responsibility for your actions.

Even though Itchy admitted to trolling, I feel compelled to reply with this just for the sake of humor.

Why don't you take your apathy for your condition and your hate for healthy people and use that as your motivation to lose weight.

Vast oversimplification. There are differences between people's metabolism rates. 2000 calories for you might be way too much and for me it might be just right. This individual may be eating way less than you and still gain weight.

However, the fact remains, in order to lose weight you have to take in less than you burn. Some people have metabolisms that go into starvation mode and try to store everything as fat. Those kinds of people have to eat ridiculously small amounts of food each day to lose weight. The problem with this is psychological, your brain convinces you that if you don't eat more you're going to die. But the truth is that if you're eating healthy balanced meals, if you're losing a pound or two a week you're getting enough nutrition to keep your body alive.

For someone used to eating 3500 calories a day, going down to 900 is big psychological challenge. This is the part that people don't understand. The physical aspect of losing weight is pretty simple, but the psychological aspect of essentially giving up food and being hungry all the time is sometimes devastating. Those of you that are naturally thin have never had to endure this and have no idea how hard it is.

Fat fat fatty McFat.

I'm fat. I loooove food. Admit it fatties: you love food too. I loved food when I was a kid but I was skinny because I played outside every day. Now I sit on my fat ass at a computer all day. I work multiple jobs, so I really don't move all day.

My bf is skinny. Damn him. He eats whatever he wants and complains when he gains five measly pounds.

The answer is simple: we need exercise, and we need healthier food. Salads, no dressing, no fried chicken on top. No pizza. Gym membership for sure.

It's not that hard. Also; changing your diet also can stimulate your "slow thyroid". My doctor told me. (I have a slow thyroid).

As far as people hating on fatties? They're just projecting their anger. They have their own problems and don't want to confront them, that's all.

That's kind of the thing, though. You can eat that kind of crap assuming you don't eat it in excess and you still get exercise. There's no need to drop pizza and hamburgers and ice cream and all the other good stuff and starve to death on salad (why not drink a glass of water? It's about as useful as eating lettuce...). Just, you know, moderation in all things and all that.

A while ago, I came across my school pics from the 60's. 2nd, 3rd, 5th, 6th grade.

Not a moob in the bunch. Ok, there was one or two 'kinda chunky' kids. But no fat ones.

Look at any elem class today. Fat kids everywhere. A lot of people like to blame this on 'hormonal imbalance', and 'metabolism'...whatever.

Are you seriously suggesting that the human physiology has changed that much in one generation? Nonsense.

Too much crap going in, and not enough exercise to burn it off.

Humans are very plastic animals. Now that your cousin has exposed her daughter to famine-like conditions she's probably imprinted her body to pack away the pounds as a response to living in a "resource-poor" environment (i.e. Barker hypothesis or Thrifty phenotype).

QFT. I basically did this (except a bit more walking and much smaller portions of food), and I've almost got myself down to a healthy weight. I think I have about 8 weeks to go before I up my calorie intake to keep my weight stable.

Well, I'm a fatty and I really don't care what any of you smart azzez have to say. I have lost to date 50 lbs and still have more to lose until I get to my goal weight. The people here on FARK can sprew their hate all they want, I'm sure they have all their little faults hidden, most of them just go along with whatever is being said in the thread anyways. I have posted in my profile my weightloss ticker, hell I don't care who sees it, I'm proud of the weight I've lost and the weight I'm losing, instead of being hateful trying being encouraging to those who need it. I get sick of the haters ranting and raving about fat people, when most of you are probably sitting there behind your computers with some kind of farked up problem whether it be weight, smoking or whatever, get your head out of your make believe world and face it, no one is perfect.

roycarl: Last June I was about 235 pounds, when I started on a 12-week program called "Body for Life". After 12 weeks I was down to 180 pounds. Now, about a year later, I'm around 160 pounds, race in triathlons, and am in the best physical condition of my life.

I know someone who did Body For Life and lost a lot of weight -- it's a very good program. Congrats!

I don't think people grasp the reality of the situation--when you have a medical issue, there's more going on with your body chemistry than "exercise + eat less = fatfree!"

I'm a diabetic, and I'm having some major problems with insulin resistance and it's seriously impacting my ability to get weight off. I feel your pain.

"I'm pretty sure that lack of exercise didn't cause this..."

and I'm pretty sure it did. Yes, there is obviously a hormone problem, but people who lift weights and run don't have those problems. You get that shiat secondary to sitting on your flabby ass all day eating hormone fed meat.

Itchy

Yeah, I fight the bulge every day. It's a struggle! But I've had some success in the past to the tune of losing 4 dress sizes over the course of about a year.

(Of course, I had another baby ( my second) and it all came back... *sigh* But every day is a new day to start over!)

It was very, very difficult at first, but breaking habits is always difficult.

We have so much food in this coutry we have forgotten how to eat well! But it isn't too difficult if you're willing to put in the time to cook and the willingness to go without the usual comfort foods.

Just follow these simple sounding (but amazingly difficult to adhere to) rules:

Do not eat - breads of any kind, white rice, white potatoes, carrots

Definitely do not eat - cake, cookies, candy bars, or any packaged/processed foods

Do not drink - beer, non-diet cola, sugary store-bought tea, alcoholic beverages

Eat in moderation (that means no more than 2 tablespoons for a serving) - brown rice, sweet potatoes, red potatoes, non-wheat pasta, corn, cauliflower, most fruits, cheeses

EAT UNTIL YOU ARE STUFFED - green vegetables, blue fruits, nuts (not peanuts), lean meats and fish, squash, eggs,

Cook with virgin olive oil, use herbs and spices to your liking, and experiment! Avoid mayonnaise and creamy salad dressings.

You may think you don't eat any more than what other people do, but ... you do. And it's not just how much you eat, it's WHAT you eat. Also, try adding as much excersize to your daily routine as you can. Every little bit helps!

It will take a couple of months to notice any significant difference, but it will happen. It helps to have someone for support because it's soooo easy to fall off the wagon!

And never NEVER never NEVER say, "Oh, I lost X pounds in the last week, I can afford to eat this just this once!" NO! It's a trap!

Good luck!

ItchyMcknobster: I'm really starting to get sick of everyone taking jabs at people, be them young or old, who are a bit over weight.

It's so easy to sit there and point your skinny little digits at the fatty and say he/she should "put the fork down", isn't it.

I'm sure all of you are perfect in every way, and don't have any glandular problems that are the actual cause of your obesity.

Hello, I eat just about as much as everyone else. So ask yourself why I'm 200 pounds over weight??!!

NEWS FLASH - most of the time we can't help it. We eat the same amount as you!
