it doesn't matter what size or shape you are. some people will like you more becuase of your body, and some others will take exception to you because of it - whatever body type you have. that's life - and it would be a boring life if we were all the same. that said, for me, the positive benefits of sport (i can eat what healthy food i want, i like setting goals and achieving them, i am pretty much totally happy with my body, i value the support of others and the ability to support others, i love enjoying the countryside, and all the little things - say, i don't sweat as much as others when the sun comes out, etc, etc) outweigh the negatives (time, injuries and times when i can't be assed (though i always find that after about 10 minutes of exercise the body releases things and i get into it even if i couldn't be assed to train before). but who cares? it's my life. i'll be dead soon. so will you. so just enjoy doing what you enjoy doing

ItchyMcknobster: I'm really starting to get sick of everyone taking jabs at people, be them young or old, who are a bit over weight.

It's so easy to sit there and point your skinny little digits at the fatty and say he/she should "put the fork down", isn't it.

I'm sure all of you are perfect in every way, and don't have any glandular problems that are the actual cause of your obesity.

Hello, I eat just about as much as everyone else. So ask yourself why I'm 200 pounds over weight??!!

NEWS FLASH - most of the time we can't help it. We eat the same amount as you!

\jerks

you are absolutely right; at 17 I weigh 95 pounds and eat as much as the next overweight kid. It's not the kids' fault. Overeating is apart of our culture, it's just a difference of genes.

Some people need to work harder than others, however I've yet to see one person who actually exercises and actually eats well be fat.

I've seen people who are fat who consider exercise a 10 minute cardio workout once a week, or people who think that the amount of food you get at restaurants is considered a normal portion for everyday meals.

Multi-Vitamin: 2. Tamoxifen Citrate - get some.

Fail.

You will notice reduced increase in HGH, a naturally occuring process because of your lifting weights. Negating your effort
You will also notice a decrease in your natural sex drive, significantly
You also run the risk of developing cysts in your pectoral area

This stuff is only prescribed to true biatch tits, like Meatloaf in fightclub biatch tits. Not I'm overweight and need to loose 100 pounds biatch tits.

ItchyMcknobster: Just as predicted, the fat-hating perfect people are out in force.

But when I pose the question, "why am I over weight when I eat about the same as you?", you do nothing but mock me, instead of siting facts to back up your nonexistent reasoning...

Jumping in and violating the 5-Minute Rule...

Do you *really* eat "about" the same as "we" do? Seriously...take a look at your perspective. I've known people who think "about" equals 115% of what "we" eat (that is, 15% more). Over time, that's enough to get anyone overweight unless they exercise the excess calories off.

Also, being heavy can be affected by your genetics, but it's not insurmountable. I've known people with overweight parents who were very fit and trim. They just have to work a little harder at it.

I consume up to 3500 calories a day, and my weight is pretty stable (overweight, but mostly because I work out, so I'd *like* to think the extra weight is in muscle). One theory to weight loss and maintenance is how often you eat and how much you eat when you do eat. Eating many small meals throughout the day is supposed to keep your body from going into 'survival mode', where it thinks it's being periodically starved, and must store as much of the food you eat as fat so it can survive.

These are just 3 possibilities why you have a hard time with your weight: perspective about how much you really eat (and WHAT you eat!!!!), genetics, and keeping your body out of 'survival' mode. The fourth is this: do you do any type of aerobic activity? Just 30 minutes a day of fast walking will help melt the pounds away.

Finally, I remember an article in Men's Health about this guy who did Ironman triathlons, lifted weights, etc...yet he was as big as a house (i.e. fat). Doctors examined him, and determined that he was in spectacular cardiovascular health (better than me, I'm sure); but discovered he had a thyroid problem (I believe it was). So, despite the fact that he was in every other way perfect shape, he couldn't drop the fat. The instant he stopped doing any physical activity, his metabolism crashed, and the fat stopped burning. So, have a doctor check you out for hypothyroidism, as well. It's a possibility.

There...was that more informative?

ItchyMcknobster: Whatever. None of you geniuses can admit, even for a second, that it maybe, just maybe, have something to do with my glands or hormones.

You "glands or hormones" can only affect the rate at which your body burns fuel.

You can only stay overweight by consuming a number of Calories greater-than or equal to your BMR.

Your "glands or hormones" cannot create body weight from nothing.

Ok, try this Itchy...

Assume you and I eat the same exact meals. Basic physiology is the same. The only difference is: I walk 8 blocks to work, walk a few blocks to lunch, and run about 1.5-2 miles, or run a mile and do a mostly-full circuit at the local YMCA, 3-4 times a week. I burn X number of calories. You burn (X * .1) calories. Over time, you gain weight. I do not. In fact, I might lose weight over time.

If you get burn the same number of calories I do through exercise you WILL lose the weight, or at least stop gaining it. Glandular conditions do not interfere with the biology and physics of cellular-level energy reactions.

Of course, they can interfere with your ability to exercise regularly/for extended periods of time, or your energy level, or regulating 'hungry' signals. But, that's what dieting and medication are for.

Also, I agree with the guy who said that alot of people who gain weight don't really realize what they're eating. Count your calories. Those snacks add up. For me, soda kills me. That office birthday cake adds up. Hell, even a glass of orange juice adds up. So change habits. Cut out the soda. If you need caffiene, do unsweetened tea or a sugar-free red bull.

"Today Karl Malone talking about health. Karl Malone healthy as horse but everybody not so lucky. All kinds of Americans infected by diabetes. Diabetes infect young, old, women, men, and here Karl Malone's whole thing. Why they call it diabetes? They get people all riled up. That's why Karl Malone say change name diabetes to livebetes. That way, people won't go walking around saying "oh no, I'm gonna diabetes." Instead, they saying, "look out world, livebetes coming through." That's called positivity thinking right there, and that's kinda thing keep Karl Malone on top. Remember now, you too can prevent forest fire. Until next time, this here Karl Malone."

We're talking about two different things here; man-boobs that are simply fat, and man-boobs that are actual enlarged breast tissue (just as likely to happen on a skinny kid). The second is probably in large part due to not only soy, but the estrogens in shampoo and such products, especially ones that have lavender in them (which has high ammounts of estrogen). It's the same reason that girld are developing younger and younger. I'm sensing a serious problem here....

"I think men are more sensitive about their bodies than women," said Beverly Hynes with the Hynes Plastic Surgery Center in Kansas City. "Having breasts equates with being effeminate."

Ha. Doubt that. I'm in shape, and I'm still going home to exercise after reading this article.

I'd wager people of both sexes are equally concerned about how everybody else judges them. But, we can also decieve ourselves about those thoughts. I can lie to myself about talking too much ("Sure, go ahead, they want to know how you feel") fatty can probably convince himself a whole pie won't make a difference one way or another. Nobody's perfect.

Resistance training boosts your metabolism.

I think most people eat too much these days. I can only eat half of what they give me in a restaurant before I start to feel sick. I see other people woof down all that, then order more along with dessert. Granted, I'm not a big person but I am amazed at the carbs and fat people try to ingest in one sitting.

If you're convinced it's just a "gland" problem, go to the damn doctor. If your endocrine system is that farked up, who knows what it's doing to your internal organs and your lifespan in general.

The man boobs thing is often is often glandular. It increases breast tissue production. Fat certainly plays a part (a large part), but even after you lose the fat, the tissue stays.

Flashman73: SaladMonkey: I also couldn't really do sports in school, because there's one thing worse than being the fat kid - being the fat kid that loses the game for the team, or sits on the bench.

Team? OK, then what about individual athletics: Tennis? Boxing? Wrestling? Gymnastics? Track & Field? Sumo?

yet again, every sport, you compete against others...in front of spectators. Since most fat kids don't go out for sports, you'll be competing against people in your weight category who aren't fat i.e. serious beatings ensue (tried wrestling).

oh, and I guess I should have mentioned this in my Boobies. After high school, my parents stopped being against weight lifting (they were afraid it would stunt my growth). I joined a gym (because I was no old enough, and could drive to one). I started weight lifting, in addition to running. I am in excellent shape, but exercise is the only way I can stay this way. My friends who were skinny in high school and didn't work out, are still skinny (though I think that'll end for them, once we start hitting our 30s). My point was that you really shouldn't make fun of fat kids, they are at a point in life where they don't have as much of a discretion about what they eat, and how they exercise - they are completely subject to the whims of their body. For some people, like me, those whims suck...a lot. Also, unless you exercise, you don't have the right to make fun of fat adults, because you are just lucky thanks to your genetics.

ItchyMcknobster = titty moobie baby

It's been said before, eat less & move around more. My wife has learned this after her heart surgery and the drugs involved helped her to gain about 35 pounds. And no, the surgery was due to a "born-with" condition of a flappy non-sealing mitral valve. Her arteries were clean as a 10 year-old's according to the angiogram.

Nonetheless, she has started swimming laps and has managed to drop about 10 lbs in 2-3 months. She also has cut out snacks. Still got the boobies, though, and I likes me snuggles

SaladMonkey - you don't need to throw yourself into competition to begin with. try a few sports, find the ones you like, and just train by yourself - or in a small friendly non-competitive group. there will come a point where you may well want to compete with others (equally you might not), but that's up to you. for just about every sport out there most participants don't compete. most people just enjoy sports for the other benefits. actively look for a club which has others who don't compete (for example, most clubs have non-competing veterans, parents, family members and friends) and you'll love it and they'll love you if you're honest and enjoy the sport

Look I'm not knocking the glandular thing my mom has massive Thyroid issues that cause her to be overweight and by overweight I mean she's like twenty pounds overweight not 200. Glands count but they aren't an excuse. I'm 15 pounds overweight because I eat too many damn M&Ms. I think many fat people go through the "It's not my fault thing" because eating healthy and exercising is really hard and they don't want to feel like they've failed. Your options are, accept that the M&Ms are worth 15 pounds or change your lifestyle.

Immature, offensive reply: There are some pretty amusing moobs to be seen at the swimming pool at my YMCA. Some of them won't take their shirts off but don't realize the shirts accentuate them all the more. There's a reason wet t-shirt contests were invented.

Mature reply: I agree that some people do have a metabolic problem which results in being overweight. Plus, I've noticed that the younger a kid is when they become obese the less likely they will ever lose it. I think their body just has a "fat thermostat" that's out of whack. The amazing thing is how many outrageously fat infants I see. Their parents give them way too much formula from the moment they're out of the womb. It's insane. Parents tell me they give their babies as much 8 oz of formula every 2 hours--to their 2 month old! (4 ounces every 4 hours is more like it.) Then I watch the kids grow up still topping the weight curves on the growth chart.

2007-07-31 03:41:56 PM
zekebullseye: Then I watch the kids grow up still topping the weight curves on the growth chart.

The other spinoff of that is that the formula-fed fatties actually skewed the charts, causing slimmer breastfed babies to appear underweight. The WHO has revised the charts back to normal, but many doctors are still telling the mothers of healthy, breastfed babies that their kids need supplements. (Since many doctors don't stay up-to-date.)

Even after our son moved on to solids, our family doctor thought he was too skinny. But when he sent us to a pediatrician who kept on top of these things, the specialist looked at his diet and said our son was completely normal for a well-fed, active little boy.
