satire tag broken?

2007-07-30 12:43:21 PM
What a retarded concept. How does CNN get approval from the company paying for the ad, once they've decided what "news" to incorporate within the ad?

I was just going to say...

Wait for it...

FTFA: The company has named Tommy Rickey head of the new "advernewsment" division, to find innovative ways to place news in advertisements on the site.

Why does this not surprise me? Oh...they've been doing it for years.

I refuse to get cable. I work nights. When I'm awake, the majority of options are infomercials. What? I remember when having cable meant there were no ads.

Now it's all ads.

Thank you, intertubes.

Wow. Use the interwebs and look up bbspot.com

The fact that the "satire" site has those farking annoying adwords in the article in question speaks volumes.

BBspot is a satire news and comedy source and meant to be funny. If you are easily offended, gullible or don't have a sense of humor we suggest you go elsewhere.

2007-07-30 12:48:02 PM
Time to sit back and enjoy the gullibility of the average farker. :)

Ed Finnerty Why does this not surprise me? Oh...they've been doing it for years.

And so Fark makes the BBSpot BBelievers section in the mailbag this week...again. When will people learn to check the source before taking something seriously...

"I'm not sure I like the idea," said one Sandra Higgs of Oklahoma City. "If I'm watching an ad for Taco Bell, I want to learn about how the Chuwanga is spicy and meaty, and not about the immigration bill being held up in the Senate."

Ha Ha. How close satire is to real life!

the article was sort of funny, but i'm giving subby +1 for not using the SATIRE tag, thus sowing confusion and chaos among the morning fark crowd.

I hate the way TV stations put graphics in the lower third of the screen.

Last week when we had the helicopter crash in Phoenix, they would run footage again and again where you couldn't even see the impacts, their graphics were comically in the way.

Note to TV execs: Being "free" is not a blanket excuse to "suck".

Think a little?

Crappetite "I know it's true because I saw it on the Internet"

No kidding...one of these days I'm gonna set up a fake news site featuring a story about a few dozen people who had incredible luck after sending me $20 and see where it goes. I could probably retire in a month...

Before I realized what BBSpot was, I believed that CNN would do this.
Now that I know it's a satire, it still seems plausible.

I recognize this article is satire, but speaking of ads, what about Fark? Anyone else's computer sounding like a jet taking off every time you load Fark over the last two weeks due to those Toyota banner ads? Thankfully, the sale the ads advertise ends tomorrow. My fan can't take any more.

What ads?

If you can't figure out how to get the programs that block ads, then you deserve everything you get.

Far be it from me to judge a person for what gets them off, but I wish you people could just ..you know..drive by an accident on the road instead of having to stop and gawp at the blood and guts on the road. There are people behind you trying to get to work on time.

Thanks in advance.

Speaking of which, has everyone bought their Toyota Tundra already? I've been thinking about picking one up but I'm afraid it will crash as often as their ad crashes Firefox.

Considering the fact that we seem to be seeing more and more ads; movies being sped up so they can squeeze more ads in, I don't doubt that someday this may actually become a reality.

Cable TV 2100:

Movies in ADS
ADS in ADS (somewhat controversial in 2100 but innovative)
Infomercials in ADS
Gameshows in ADS
Public Beheadings in ADS (Only available in Middle Eastern Nations)
Propoganda (Political ADS) in ADS
Live Sex in ADS (It sells)
Reality TV in ADS (Survivor 2099 reruns a favorite)

They are images. So I adblock-plussed them.

chudstud: it's just that that article is not absurd enough to be satire

You must be working from a different definition of satire than the one I am. I don't think the level of absurdity determines whether something is satire or not.

Satire or not, CNN.com does have a new format, and it totally sucks. I used to go to CNN.com daily as part of my regular cycle, but now it's on the "if I still have time to goof off" list.
