I remember this!

The first time this was discovered was a few years ago. A German team went through quite a bit of trouble to design and fabricate a custom robot made specifically to navigate these teeny shafts.

They went through all the trouble and expense to make it, then the years (literally) of negotiation with the Egyptian authorities to get permission to use it in the great pyramid. Then they finally set up, navigate it up the shaft, almost get stuck and finally come to a closed door.
