I lol'ed, but I'd throw that cat out of the room if it came near me.

Aww. Little death kitty.

OK, a thought just occurred to me. You know how there've been those articles recently about how toxoplasma infection causes mice to lose their fear of cats, and it might also be implicated in human disorders like schizophrenia? And there's a not-fully-understood relationship between schizophrenia and parkinson's?

Maybe a toxoplasma infection causes the victim to secrete a certain cat-attracting smell when they're near death -- this would make them (in the case of mice) more likely to get eaten by cats. And people with Parkinson's (maybe) are more likely to have a toxoplasma infection. Hence when near death they attract cats.

Total speculation but just wanted to throw the idea out there.

OMGZ! It eats souls!

That's where they get their other "lives" from.

I can't believe the nursing home hasn't caught onto the fact that this cat is stealing people's breath.

2007-07-25 06:51:01 PM
Wouldn't it be great if the cause of death for all these people was "allergic reaction"?

She was convinced of Oscar's talent when he made his 13th correct call

Oooooooo...

This one is the best headline for this story... Props to subby...

2007-07-25 06:53:17 PM
That was far superior to my lameass headline.

+1, subby

LoL. I just read this story on CNN and was wondering what kind of headline would go with this one. This far exceeded my expectations!

2007-07-25 06:57:49 PM
Dang you beat me to it...

My headline was, "This ain't no lolcat and this isn't Caturday!".

Oh well let us revel in the glory of murderous kitties.

This isn't the only deathcat by any means. In a hospice run by the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN they have a cat who does the same thing. Still kinda creepy but I guess having something warm & fuzzy next to you when you die is comforting in a strange way ;)

I still love the "tonight I dine on human flesh" one though...

Revenge for the masturbatory days of their youth?

I think so.

Its not being nice, its just freaking hungry and wants some freshly killed meat.

They say cats tend to gravitate toward people that don't like them too. Little bastard is probably getting them back for hating him.

FTA: it's also possible his behavior could be driven by self-centered pleasures like a heated blanket placed on a dying person

Oscar needs a Callous Cat pic.

Yeah, I'll admit that this headline was defiantly better than mine. But I'm still Pized off that my very first link I've submitted was denied.

I'm probably the only one, but I found that kind of touching in a sort of 'Dead Like Me' Post-It note sort of way. From the article, it seems that this cat provides families with a way of knowing when their loved one's pain is nearly over. I like to think that there will be a catly angel of death when I'm an old lady and heading out.

-Of course, it's more likely that there will be ninety of them as I go down in a hail of police bullets defending my fuzzy minions with my tabby-striped AK.

Yeah. Purr.

2007-07-25 07:07:50 PM
In the town I where I went to college there was a dog that did the exact same thing.

Now if only we could get these prophetic animals to tell us something useful, like lottery numbers....

I'd like to think that they're pumping overwhelming amounts of morphine, versed and benzos into me.

FTFA: "it's also possible his behavior could be driven by self-centered pleasures like a heated blanket placed on a dying person, Dodman said."

No, that would be far too rational - and would pay for THAT story?
