Seasons 1 - 7 are some of the best commentaries ever made on the human condition. After that it gets a little spotty and lame.

I'll still go see the movie, though.

If mankind's greatest achievement is a TV show, then it's Futurama. And if that is so, I weep for the human race.

Seasons 1-2 sucked ass. They had a completely different kind of humor, like that of a bad family sitcom. As for the later years, people piss on them but a lot of the quotes that have become part of our vernacular, especially around here, came from those years.

Seasons 3-9 were nearly perfect.

Seasons 10-present have generally not achieved that same level of excellence, but they don't stink. The one from a few weeks ago were SLH becomes a police dog was quite good, in fact.

The only thing Fox has ever made that's worth a damn.

Fox == Comedic Genius, != Fair & Balanced News.

Everybody knows the Simpsons.
The second I saw the headline, I pictured posts like:
'If you mean seasons 1-9, submitter, then you are right.'
or
'Seasons 10 and up suck!!'
or
'You are an idiot for liking the newer seasons.'

The show is still good, not as the caliber as the early seasons, but still funny. The thing that gets me are people who complain how the show peaked in season x and how it isn't getting better. Well, if the show peaked in a season, then it technically cannot be better than that season. Saying that it peaked and you expected it to get better than that season is pointless.

Its funny reading former rabid Simpsons fans' comments. Basically, to them, there is nothing the show can do for them to ever like it again, and they will continue to hate and comment on how they hate it over and over again.

/I actually didn't like season 1 (the only boxset I don't have)
//Of course I'm going to see the movie.

Rumor has it in 2008 sometime. Comedy Central is the one getting new episodes, and it won't happen until after Adult Swim's contract for Futurama runs out. Which is why for a while there AS was showing Futurama twice a night trying to get people worn out on it. It seems to have only made the show a bit more popular however.

C'mon, if you can recognize the genius in the great seasons, I don't think it's a leap to point out that some of the recent seasons have been, to be kind ... not genius.

I still love the show enough to cut it slack, and I watch it, but it's with a "Phantom Menace" kind of dismay.

That is really, really stupid.

"My aunt died and I'm sad because I don't get to talk with her anymore."
"She died! By definition you can't talk to her! Why are you sad?!"

So what killed the agreeing? What was the deal-breaker?

Putting the Simpsons in an analogy with death doesn't work.

Oh I still enjoy the show, even the new seasons. I just can't agree with anyone who hasn't been drunk. It's the principle of the matter.

Let me paraphrase some of the posts that will be coming after this one:

"Simpsons suck! Jumped the shark 9 seasons ago!"

Going to see the movie, though.

Stunning argument.

My loaf of bread went all moldy. I should expect that any sandwich I make with that bread will be nasty, but that doesn't mean I can't complain that the stupid bread went bad so quickly.

If you claim you shouldn't be surprised that subsequent episodes aren't better, I agree. But to say you can't complain that it sucks doesn't make any sense.

I stopped watching The Simpsons after I was unable to even smile at any of the jokes in 3 consecutive new episodes. That's all I've got to say on the subject.

If you live around the Austin area, the Alamo Drafthouse will be making a giant donut made out of other donuts for the opening of The Simpsons.

Am I the only one that didn't find the earliest seasons to be that funny? It only seemed to ramp up with the good pop culture reference & general humor later on.

2007-07-25 06:17:37 PM
Mugato: Seasons 1-2 sucked ass.

Season 1 had awful animation and the jokes weren't fully formed, but Season 2 is a HUGE leap in quality from season 1. IMO, season 1 hasn't stood up well, but it was groundbreaking at the time.

However, I'm not fully sure why a lot of people draw the line at Season 7 for being the last great season. 8 was just as good and 9, while spotty, is still an overall good season. Now Season 10 onward....

2007-07-25 06:54:19 PM
I like the simpsons but like some have stated: It isn't funny anymore.
In a way it is not, but I like it anyways, I grew up watching the simpsons. I think I like Futurama better though. It was cancelled though right?

2007-07-25 07:02:33 PM
I'm absolutely frozen with indecision over whether to mock the people who diss the later seasons while watching and quoting them obsessively, or to concede the basic truth of their argument.

/All right, brain, you don't like me and I don't like you... so let's just do this and I can get back to killing you with beer.
