Microsoft made 50 billion dollars last year.

Whatever they're selling, you'll buy it, STFU, and like it.

Whne they make an operating system that has no need for antivirus and anti-spyware apps, minimal need for a firewall, and built in PGP protection, I'll reconsider. Till then, nah.

Point being, ranting against Microsoft is just like ranting against the RIAA labels. Yes, their business practices are abhorrent. Yes, their products suck for the most part. Yes, they use their revenues to attack the very underpinnings of democracy through legislative bribery.

And no, evidently, people will not stop giving them money.

May as well suck it up and buy whatever the crowd is buying.

manimal347: Whne they make an operating system that has no need for antivirus and anti-spyware apps, minimal need for a firewall, and built in PGP protection, I'll reconsider. Till then, nah.

But if Windows is $300 - $400 then surely an operating system like that would cost thousands of dollars and would be impossible for average users to comprehend!

O WAIT... that's right that was all a lie too.

In its haste to build software that gives computer users new ways to communicate, store data, and scour the Web for information, the tech industry has unleashed a raft of threats to consumer privacy.

WHAT!!! this is an outrage! Why hasn't anyone told me about this before???!!! Ric Romero... where are you when we need you?

tweekster: When has MS ever delivered what it promised?

Halo 2.

One of the biggest strides comes from Microsoft (MSFT), which on July 23 will unveil a new privacy policy that gives users greater control over what the company does with information it gathers about their online behavior. Microsoft, the world's largest software maker, will let certain users decline to receive ads tailored to their Web surfing habits.

Currently they don't have these ads, so a translation is in order:

Microsoft is starting a new advertising service that collects data on your computer, sends it to Microsoft, and delivers ads tailored to your web surfing behavior.

And oh yeah, they've added in an opt-out.

All hail our new privacy promoting overlords!

Microsoft is posturing a stance for privacy in front of a Senate committee in order to oppose Google's acquisition of DoubleClick.

I'm not sure.

Whenever I launch a Microsoft app, the send data light on my modem goes: "blinky, blinky."

So I'll guess no.

That's more Bungie's doing than Microshaft's

2007-07-23 01:37:22 PM
Microsoft promised me they wouldn't talk about this.

2007-07-23 01:37:41 PM
Yeah, 'cause I get my tech advice from some fark-stick segment of NBC.

Microsoft to the people: "My children, we will allow you some some useless liberties that will distract you from the important issues. We will also continue to own your soul and give you aneurysms from all the stress our software creates."

ranak: That's more Bungie's doing than Microshaft's

Microsoft acquired Bungie in 2000. They own it. Therefore, anything made by Bungie since 2000 belongs to Microsoft.

MS=Multiple Sclerosis

Somewhat preferable to Vista.

//window seat pls

2007-07-23 01:41:35 PM
Well, Muisic, that was true 15 years ago, but as you likely know, people have distilled the essence of Posix design and built a variety of OS's, from Linux, to Mac os X, most free, many easy to use. Of course, you were just sarcasticly highlighting how overpriced Windows Vista upgrades are.

MS bought that by buying Bungie.
