I like reading non fiction informational shiat, but reading fiction is lame, movies with special effects is much more betterful.

Now if I could start reading dictionary or enligh school textbook so my grammar would be up to snuff with what I know.....

Can someone help me with the headline? It's got all these....words.....

These studies are bullshiat. The "gap" completely shifts the other way once you start looking at college bound students, with it being about equal when it comes to actual college grads.

Which is about what you would freaking expect, right?

That is for all you boys who don't feel like reading.

Read any Jack Reacher novel by Lee Child, and you will feel differently. Guaranteed.

Neither do girls, not in this modern day. America is the world's Boobies-literary culture. This troubles me.

Really? I'm in college and it's been my experience so far that most of the girls a farking stupid.

*sigh* A rather apt application of the filter, don't you say? The world's premier post-literary culture, then.

Reading Harry Potter does not make you an intellectual.

But even still, that is an interesting thought.

America is the world's Boobies-literary culture.

Heh. The filter totally abused Erofeev, unless he meant 'Playboy'.

2007-07-22 10:54:10 PM
If you'd been at a bookstore 48 hours ago waiting for 'Deathly Hallows' you'd realize this is very, very true. It was wall-to-wall 19 year old chicks... thousands of 'em, all in one spot...

For a while I was thinking to myself 'why couldn't JKR have written these 25-30 years ago before I turned into a creepy old man', but then I realized I would have been too petrified to talk to any of them. Oh well.

Almost "Clintoned in the Boobies."

How apt, considering the subject matter.

Give them some nonfiction & military history books and see if they don't soak them up.

If you want to try to get boys to read 'the babysitters club' and similar pre-teen fictional garbage, you're out of luck.

I, for the life of me, can't get my fiancee to read one useful non-fiction book, yet she tears through useless fiction like there's no tommorow.

Schools today are over-feminized, and 'studies' like this reveal more that the school systems don't know how to teach boys then that there is any actual deficiency with boys.

Boys and girls are different, folks. News at 11, Romero on the scene.

GratuityIncluded: I was looking for a real abstract or scientific writing.

The 2004 NEA study is well publicized. You can look it up. Simply reading local test scores and retention rates by gender in a given year is not a publishable study. Anyone who can add and divide can do that.

I'm undereducated, so I'm really getting a kick out of these replies...

BTW, I'm male and I read, and not just Harry Potter! Though, I finished the new Potter book this morning.

I think that was, in fact, the point of the article.

Good luck convincing anyone that this is a real problem. I have [male] friends who think this is one of the best things to come out of modern society. I was speechless when one said "Well, men have been screwing things up for this long. It's about time there's a change."

Thank you for posting that. I hadn't seen it before. I just bought one of those, and will proudly stick it on the car!

The filter is prescient. It took a meaningful, intelligent comment and converted it into another, entirely different, meaningful and true comment.

Can the Fark filter play chess? Can we match it up against Deep Blue? Clearly the Fark filter is more capable than we've been giving it credit for.

Good. Our future hot secretaries need to know how to read. Also, I'd like it if my hot cook and hot intern could read, too. They're so cute when they're reading!

/will always make more money than them.

If you see a picture of a beautiful naked girl in a lusty pose, even if there's a dozen paragraphs on the same page you know it will still lead to masturbation.

The paragraphs are there to help men tell women they "read the articles because they're interesting" without feeling guilty of 100% lying... just 95%.

IrateShadow: I was speechless when one said "Well, men have been screwing things up for this long. It's about time there's a change."

SRSLY? I hope you told your friend that this was a really stupid thing to say and that he was stupid for saying it. Because millions of even-more screwed up, illiterate men do not bode well for any society.

I've since given up on talking to him. You can't convert anyone who is as deeply entrenched in their ideals as he is, and if i'm not going to tolerate misogyny, then i'm not going to tolerate misandry.
