It's a disease? HAHAHAHAHA!

2002-09-09 11:22:10 AM
Sounds like a good idea to me. Though personally there are a lot of other vaccines that I would rather have seen first.

"You don't get that feel-goodness that nicotine provides you when it gets into the brain"

Good thing there are other ways of getting that "feel-goodness"...hmmm

2002-09-09 11:23:19 AM

Of course the vaccine is only one part of a fully effective smoking cessation program.

2002-09-09 11:23:22 AM
This was in the new last month. I think it's a great idea provided it's 100% safe. However, I dont like smoking but I do it in pubs because of the dopamine in alcohol. It would be interesting to see how smokers found it after 5 pints of lager.

2002-09-09 11:23:46 AM
FLA Chickie: Too true. I covered most of them last weekend.

2002-09-09 11:24:00 AM
Actually, it is ok to smoke, as much as its ok to be at a campfire...a couple once in a while having a beer on the weekends with the friends is fine...

the thing that kills ppl is 1 1/2 packs a day for 20 years nonstop

so this is a perfect solution...smoke just for some oral fixation at the local club...and mon - friday a non-smoker...

finally some control

I like smoking and hate it...I love the after dinner smoke, the smoke with a beer...every other one I do I do because of addiction and it sucks.

[steps off the soapbox]

"I wish every day that I could stop," Baldwin said. "I am very fearful that my daughter may become a smoker."

Gourd, there is a patch, gum, hypnosis, etc. Just don't buy anymore you spineless moron.

Research is obviously flawed when they stated "smoking is NOT cool".

I beg to differ. I am a smoker. Before I smoked I was uncool. As soon as I started smoking I was able to run with the "cool" kids. I got invited to swell parties. Had sex with all the cheerleaders AND the prom queen. Not cool? Feh!

2002-09-09 11:28:12 AM
They will get my ciggies when they prize them from my cold dead fingers, which given how much I smoke will ne in about 6 months.

2002-09-09 11:28:29 AM
I also have found a cure for nicotine addiction, which has actually been around since God was a kid; it's called DEATH ! That the only thing I think that will help me quit.

2002-09-09 11:29:35 AM
True Skinink, it's the only socially acceptable means of suicide left to us.

2002-09-09 11:30:16 AM
How about something that eliminates my inhibition to punch the shiat out of the self-righteous pricks that fake-cough when they walk past a smoker?

2002-09-09 11:31:04 AM
thank you god. HELP ME QUIT SMOKING

2002-09-09 11:31:08 AM
My bet is that any so-called vaccine against any mind altering drug will turn out to mess up (that's a scientific term) one's brain chemistry. This guy would risk messing up his daughter's brain to prevent smoking? Hmmmm...

2002-09-09 11:31:12 AM
So where is the government going to get that tax revenue when smoking is finally eliminated?

2002-09-09 11:32:24 AM
I hear smoking crack is kewl

Smoke
Die!

No one cares.

I need it NOW!

Ironbar: Maybe when they legalize Mary Jane instead of tobacco? I know, it's nice to dream...

I'm right there with ya, there are times that I really enjoy it, however chainsmoking while sitting in front of my computer at home is not one of those tinmes, and that when I do most of my smoking...

CheezieDanish...ummm, sure...but the topic was smoking...

2002-09-09 11:34:42 AM
I'm no quitter!

2002-09-09 11:35:49 AM
I use negative stimulation to help people stop smoking, As soon as they start smoking i start smacking them on the head, thus creating a pain reflex tied to the smoking action

2002-09-09 11:35:55 AM
And secondhand smoke has been proven to be linked to secondhand coolness. Even the dorkiest person can become cooler by being in close proximity to a smoker.

Ahh Hell. This used to be in The Onion, but I can't find it.

2002-09-09 11:36:23 AM
Wow, they really need a vacine for smoking? I have an idea. EXCERSISE A LITTLE CONTROL.

It's bad for you.
It will kill you.
It smells like ass.
It's expensive.

Do the math.

2002-09-09 11:37:09 AM
yeah like the Tabacco companies will let this come to pass

this stuffs better anyway!

2002-09-09 11:38:18 AM
Ironbar:They'll tax the vaccine! Ha!

Seriously, the number of smokers are dwindling, either because they're quitting or dying. Prohibition doesn't work - they tried that in Ontario by imposing a text making the price of a pack of cigarates something like $12.00 each - it just created a smuggling operation.

I quit, but started up again. Getting cigarettes is too easy. They had a plan so that only pharmacies could sell cigs. whatever happend to it? (I think it was because a lot of people make thier livelyhood off of it).

This is a good idea, if it can irradicate smoking. God help me I'll be the first one in line for this.

Die!

Non-smokers die every day m8.

2002-09-09 11:40:19 AM
...they tried that in Ontario by imposing a TAX...

farking kb.

2002-09-09 11:44:01 AM
Yarrr, this be good news! Now if only I could kick me six grogs a day habit, then I'd have nothin' but scurvy t' worry about!

Ah, gotta love Boston. I started a new job, and before I went to work smoked outside. Every morning the same arsehole walking by did that little thing *cough* .I guess he felt that made the whole world a better place to act passive/aggressive toward my smoking.

I should have shoved the hot end of the cigarrette right into his coughing throat.

2002-09-09 11:49:11 AM
mmmmmm...tomacco....

2002-09-09 11:49:29 AM
I don't know how successful it would be in helping you quit. Seems to me like you would just get more irritated from not getting the nicotine, causing you to smoke more. Maybe after more cigs, you would finally get the buzz you're looking for. Only so much of the stuff in the vax. You would have to be able to eventually "outnumber" the vax with enough cigs. Quicker way to the real vaccine, as mentioned earlier, death.

2002-09-09 11:51:17 AM
Harmonia

Maybe I should clear that up. I'm a non-smoker, but I whole heartedly encourage smokers to light up. The way I see it the more people smoke and die of lung cancer (or whatever) in their 50's-60's, the fewer people my tax dollars will have to support if they lived into their 80's or 90's.

Light'em up Smokey Joe!

2002-09-09 11:51:55 AM
I thought they already had a version of this that was
extracted from pig enzymes and made into a flavorful
syrup that can be used in drinks. It's called the
porcine grenadine nicotine vaccine..

Ba-dum-bump!

Thank you, thank you, I'll be here all week..

2002-09-09 11:52:48 AM
Unless you think I am planning a move to the States The_marq, you have little to worry about.

Just think though, over here your taxes would go to my medical bills!

TPerrin: But I bet tobacco farmers will be just fine with it as they get paid to NOT grow tobacco, if demand falls more, they stand to make even more of a killing.

Ahh. Subsidies.

if you think about it alot of the farming area in the US is used for Tabacco if we stopped using it for that and used it for food we could probably wipe out world hunger, but where's the fun in that!

ps I am a smoker whose tried to quit at least twice, here's to third times a charm!!!!

or we could grow pot with that land. The trip from Raleigh NC to the beach would be alot more fun passing by fields of marijuana.

Imagine how happy all of those migrant workers would be.

I never started because I was too poor. Instead I smoked dope 'cause i could sell it to support my habit. I consider myself lucky, if I was 20 years younger it might have been crack.

My father beat lung cancer with surgery, chemo, and radiation. But he can't / won't quit.

2002-09-09 12:03:16 PM
A lot of politicians would be upset if they lost their tobacco money.

2002-09-09 12:03:55 PM
Smoking doesn't cause cancer, if smoking CAUSED cancer, then everyone who smoked would always get lung cancer. Smoking increases your chances of getting lung cancer, and all those other disease, but so does living in incredibly polluted towns...

2002-09-09 12:12:16 PM
Pass me over my Marloboro lights. Sucking them down and loving them!! In fact, smoke break time now. Jeebus i would never get through work if it wasn't for Fark and Mr Marlboro.

2002-09-09 12:12:21 PM

If I could cut down on my smoking by two thirds, I could join both of Michael Jackson's Beer of the month clubs! (Different Michael Jackson.)

However, as the vaccine prevents the nicotine from getting to the brain, the effect would be the same as quitting cold turkey, something which could easily lead to a bloodbath.

Also, this is not a vaccine unless it comes from cattle. If it's made a different way, it's an innoculation. Vaccination is specifically innoculation with cowpox to prevent smallpox. Cow = Vaca... (This kind of thing pisses me off in the same way as ATM Machines, PIN numbers, the HIV Virus, and RSVP please. Arrrgh! Stupid people.)

2002-09-09 12:14:58 PM

this was my thought comradek, maybe this isn't a vaccine so much as a way to target all those people who are cutting back to get them to smoke more.

more taxes collected that way...
