-=dementia=-: You big toughy you. Pull that heroin needle outta your arm when you post. Shouldn't call names.
2002-09-07 10:23:08 PM
2002-09-07 10:23:42 PM

clearly the person who wrote this headline is part of the 10%
2002-09-07 10:23:50 PM
I thought it was a heroin needle, turns out its just a chapstick dart gun
2002-09-07 10:25:19 PM
I agree, X is for pussies. Real men do speedballs.
2002-09-07 10:25:45 PM
Not only can't the poster spell Timothy Leary's name correctly, he has no idea what the good's stance on drug usage was either! Good work!
2002-09-07 10:27:28 PM
Ummm makes your teeth hurt??

2002-09-07 10:27:46 PM
Survey: 10% of students admit to using ecstacy.
2002-09-07 10:28:44 PM
Every teen that takes x should have its brains blown out. Why delay?
2002-09-07 10:29:06 PM
I remember going to some of those parties before they were called raves. I thought the girls justliked me for who I was. Who knew that they were on X.
2002-09-07 10:29:23 PM
"10 percent of students have used the drug Ecstasy. Only 10? Timoty Leary we miss you"

Headline writer is an idiot. First for misspelling "Timothy", secondly for implying that being a sweatty, rave-attending, shiatty-music-dancing retard is a good thing. I only wish ecstacy were a stronger drug, so that the nitwits who take it would overdose and die.
2002-09-07 10:29:51 PM
Amen, McBotulism.
2002-09-07 10:32:59 PM
H. H H H. HhhhhhhhhhhhhhH.
2002-09-07 10:33:27 PM
"Timoty"? wow, if I ever managed to get an article posted but mispelled the headline I'd shoot myself in the foot.
2002-09-07 10:34:09 PM
Thank you, McBotulism!
2002-09-07 10:34:25 PM
The Headline writer is part of the 10%
2002-09-07 10:35:34 PM
Isn't ecstacy just another way to get girls to take their panties off?
2002-09-07 10:35:55 PM
Lunatic: that's right, only 10% admitted to it. But how many of them may have lied about it too? Surveys are crap.
2002-09-07 10:36:46 PM
Um.. who was Timothy Leary?
2002-09-07 10:38:35 PM
I've never been a fan of drugs, but after having seen a relatively cute guy in the bay area look like he turned into a zombie after using too muxh X, I feel even more vindicated. Drugs are bad, mmmm'kay?

Actually, my real basis for not being in favor of drugs is really simple. Your brain is meant to work one way, drugs counter the way your brain is supposed to function. Why screw with it unless it's abnormal and being repaired? The brain is the most important organ you've got, treat it right.
2002-09-07 10:39:23 PM
The other 90% were too high to understand the question.
2002-09-07 10:40:48 PM
Sure, high school drug use surveys. I remember it being more like "Hrm, I think I'll be a crackhead junkie that drinks a 12 pack a day.

MooKow: Pleeeaaaase be kidding.
2002-09-07 10:41:37 PM
Just because raving retards take it dosn't mean its not a good drug.
2002-09-07 10:42:23 PM
Only 10 percent of headline submitters can spell Timothy correctly. Correct use of the "sad" tag.
2002-09-07 10:43:03 PM
09-07-02 10:36:46 PM MooKow
Um.. who was Timothy Leary?

Was? Is he dead yet? He was basically a wacked-out college professor that advocated drug use in the 60's.
2002-09-07 10:44:49 PM
Acid is better anyways
2002-09-07 10:46:33 PM
Also, Leary wrote a book called The Doors of Perception that he stole from the Tibetan Book of the Dead. That's where the Doors got their name.

/more than you needed to know
2002-09-07 10:46:38 PM
Was this survey taken before or after they released the drug dogs ? Makes a difference, IMO.
2002-09-07 10:47:12 PM
19Cranes, I think you mean Aldous Huxley.
2002-09-07 10:47:51 PM
I look at stats like this and applaud. As long as the upcoming generation contains a good supply of burned out druggies, I'll never get too old to find work.

Young-Fart: Yes, Timothy has merged with the infinite. Literally. He had his ashes shot into space.
2002-09-07 10:47:53 PM
I'm a ninth grader and I love E. I get it cheap from my friend and give it to hot chicks when I can't get tail. nothing like E to get an uptight, hot sophomore to put out. of course I won't touch the stuff.
2002-09-07 10:48:31 PM
Yeah, Timothy's dead. He had some of his ashes shot into space, if I don't remember incorrectly.
2002-09-07 10:48:42 PM
Timothy Leary's dead? No, no, no... he's outside, looking in.
2002-09-07 10:49:30 PM
I was waiting for the Moody Blues references to roll in...
2002-09-07 10:51:57 PM
I heard that Leary had his head frozen for future regeneration. Who'd bother ?

BTW, he also did all those trippy paintings with melting clocks and burning giraffes.
2002-09-07 10:52:49 PM
What's it like being on E? My drug cornicopia only includes weed and opium. Just curious, because I remember reading a P.J. O'Rourke piece on E from about 1985 saying it made your skin feel slimy, but you wanted to hug everybody. Consequently, I never took it. But what's the real deal?
2002-09-07 10:54:35 PM
Reactron, wasn't that Salvador Dali?
2002-09-07 10:55:36 PM
You, me, and three other people will get the reference. (And about a dozen more will remember the Moody Blues.)
2002-09-07 10:55:37 PM
Leary wrote "Politics of Ecstasy" in 1968...
2002-09-07 10:56:09 PM
Millay, if you want to read up on that kind of stuff, try
2002-09-07 10:57:31 PM
Watson, no. Salvadore Dali is a Tebetan spiritual leader.
2002-09-07 10:59:16 PM
"Actually, my real basis for not being in favor of drugs is really simple. Your brain is meant to work one way, drugs counter the way your brain is supposed to function."

I'll disagree with you, Tellar. I think our brains are meant to work in many different ways. We only use what, like 6%-7% of our brain's capacity, and I believe drugs "turn on" different parts of our brain that otherwise would lie dormant. Now, drugs aren't for everyone, but for those that can responsibly control their use, they can provide a very enjoyable and enlightening experience.

True, certain drugs serve only to dull brain activity (marijuana and alcohol spring to mind), but other drugs cause synapse activity that normally does not occur, causing you to "think differently" and have those wonderful acid induced epiphanies.
2002-09-07 11:01:34 PM
Reactron. I think you're wrong.
2002-09-07 11:01:59 PM
So, is Timoty Leary like Dennis Leary's father/brother or something? It would explain so much...

Yes, two of them.
2002-09-07 11:03:07 PM
Woops. The link didn't work.
2002-09-07 11:03:08 PM
I would be interested in hearing how "The Doors Of Perception" a rip-off of the Tibetin "Book Of The Dead". I have not read either one, but a quick Alt-F shows the text mentions it: "An almost identical doctrine is to be found in The Tibetan Book of the Dead, where the departed soul is described as shrinking in agony from the Pure Light of the Void...".
