"Vodafone wishes to make it clear that it has no plans to make such an offer," the company said in a brief statement.

Or so the Germans would have us believe.

Verizon is still the only way to get cell coverage in the DC metro tunnels. (new window)

And I hate them less than I hate Cingular (which is now ATT?).

Why do people believe news first reported on a blog?

Vodafone already stated they had no interest. Sorry VZ shareholders. ;)

Gawd, I hate Verizon.
When we switched to Comcast Digital Voice, we were so happy to finally get them out of our lives...
Fark them. We will never again spend a dime with that company.

Yeah, I think it's from the unusually prominence of the letter "V" in TFA. Even the Verizon spokesperson's last name begins with "V".

I've had Verizon since it was called PrimeCo (remember the 'pink guy'?) in 1996. Same number. Same shiatty customer service.

But they cover everywhere.

hjy6: Yeah I just went to www.vodafone.com and went to COUNRTY:USA I was DIRECTED to VERIZON WIRELESS! (Denied in the article)

From the article: "Vodafone and Verizon have joint ownership of Verizon Wireless..."

What was your point again?

2007-07-16 11:55:23 AM
I thought the answer was every wireless company in the USA. The government should choose a standard GSM... whatever is best and own the air and let wireless companies try to get customers. Isn't that the way Europe does it?

Every wireless carrier sucks. I have friends that carry 2 cell phones because one works near their house and the other works better at work.

All of them have bad coverage... in the US at least.

2007-07-16 11:59:48 AM
I don't understand all the hatin' on Verizon. I have coverage EVERYWHERE and since everyone in my family (and my wifes family) are on Verizon the minutes we talk to each other don't count. one of my brothers switched from AT&T since he had no coverage at his house in rural PA and I did.

2007-07-16 12:03:42 PM
I've had Sprint, AT&T/Cingular and Verizon at various times. IMHO, Verizon sucks the least out of the bunch, and I tend to like their coverage areas.

2007-07-16 12:05:06 PM
I absolutely love my verizon phone and coverage. I hate dealing with their phone 'support', and it peeves me that my phone is nerfed in some ways I was unable to work around.

However, they are literaly miles ahead when it comes to coverage. The dang thing just works everywhere, even inside elevators in the deepest heart of a building, or in a -3 lvl basement parking garage.

Cingular (att?) on the other hand, bought out at&t wireless and then refsed to do maintenance on the network, so when sites went dead you just lost the coverage unless you bought a 'new' cingular phone. Our tri-mode at&t phones were 3 months into a 2 year contract at the time of the merger... and we lost coverage for both home and some work sites about a year in. Bastards!

Same here, but I'm not holding my breath. Verizon is not retrofitting older neighborhoods with FIOS, and only just added slower DSL service, leaving me stuck with Comcast. No real complaints about my Directv, though.

Gotta say that my experience with Vodafone was outstanding. Picked up a pre-paid phone while in Ireland. Needed to call customer service. A very short phone menu for the normal items, and was quickly connected to a live person who was very helpful.

FIOS, the product is the superdy dooperdy awesome. Their TV picture quality is better than Directv and cable.

Being billing for FIOS, will lead to endless mistakes which will amazingly involve you paying more than you should for the product.

/had FIOS TV for six months.
//had the same exact mistake on my FIOS TV bill for all six months
///yes, I called each time to get it fixed.

My recent Verizon customer experience story: The person I cancelled my DSL account with was nice, friendly and did the work quickly.

Of course, I was cancelling the DSL because I had tried three times unsuccesfully to get the account transferred to my new address. The third time I actually got through after an hour on hold, and halfway through transferring the account the line dropped. When I called directly back to them I got another girl, who said I needed to speak to a different office... which was closed by then.

So yeah, probably not the best business practice to make it easier to cancel an account than to transfer it to a new address.

Most people here seem to be confusing Verizon Wireless and Verizon Communications.

Verizon Wireless is the nation's best mobile phone provider in terms of coverage, call quality, and customer support. Go pick up a copy of Consumer Reports or look at the JD Powers ratings.

Verizon Communications is a landline phone/internet provider and can go eat a dick up.

They are two different companies, even though Verizon Communications owns a little over half of Verizon Wireless' stock (Vodaphone owns the rest.)

2007-07-16 01:16:16 PM
Telos: I had the same problem with my DSL. I was extremely happy with it but I couldn't get them to transfer the service to a new address. I would call one day and they had "applied" the changes but nothing would happen. I would call back the next day and there wouldn't be a record of that work order.

/has cable
//Comcast sucks
///Verizon sucks, though less than Comcast

NYRBill: I don't understand all the hatin' on Verizon. I have coverage EVERYWHERE and since everyone in my family (and my wifes family) are on Verizon the minutes we talk to each other don't count. one of my brothers switched from AT&T since he had no coverage at his house in rural PA and I did.

*nods* Verizon works out here in the National Forests (more like National Deserts) in Arizona, at least in the places I go.

Even though I moved out of the folks house a few years ago (I was living with them after getting back from the army, and before I went back to college), we're still all on the same "family plan" as it saves gobs of money ($9/month per line vs. $45/month for an individual plan). My girlfriend and many friends are all on Verizon as well, meaning that I don't have to worry about minute-counting most days.

/still likes my Vonage phone better
//Verizon Wireless FTW.
