Are they "killer" wasps, or Africanized wasps?

Because, I'd be much more afraid if they were Africanized.

2007-07-14 06:20:47 AM
what does "Africanized" entitle?

are they really really hungry?
Can they run really fast and leap tall things?
Do they carry small wasp sized RPG's and AK-47's?

if so I would be scared for my life also.

I sincerely hope there's a wasp infestation that nobody does anything about at your workplace, submitter.

So let's see... An internal memo reassuring people that the giant wasps outside aren't that dangerous gets copied almost word-for-word by a lazy reporter who adds a little snide just to make it look like he did work, and it gets published? And Farked?

I work at that building so I am really getting a kick out of your replies .....

/Ha didn't see that memo but there are a ton of them in the courtyard here didn't think anyone seemed overly distressed by them

You'd be pissed too if somebody messed with you during YOUR mating period!

Welcome to 2005 State Department.

No wonder they suck so bad in diplomacy.

Welcome to 2005 State Department.

No wonder they suck so bad in diplomacy.

If your job was to convince the rest of the world that Americans are not bad given our countries present actions, policies, and leader do you think you could do better? And if you could step up and do it.

Cicada killers one of the most gentle species of wasps out there. By the way, they aren't infesting the building. They're flying around on the outside.

They are solitary insects (as opposed to social. There is no "queen" per se, as every wasp you see is either a king or queen). They dig a hole in the ground where they lay their eggs. They don't form colonies, but often congregate in the same areas if that area is particularly well suited for nesting, and if there is a decent amount of food (cicadas) around.

They'll be gone in a few months.

The average, modern, city-human knows about as much about local natural history as a tea leaf knows about the history of the East India Company.

Did I get that reference right?

Its these bee killers that scare me.

hey! I've seen those around here too. not swarming, just solitary wasps that were big enough for me to go "wtf was that??"

now i know! thanks!

Did the crazy homeless guy who lives in a cardboard box 100 feet from the State Dept back entrance get the memo? I thought so.

No but they do put a beat-downs on entraweb seen any around?

I've seen them around too, they're pretty huge. My local bar had to be evacuated because there was an infestation... all these wasps came in and sat around with their popped collars, talking about lacrosse and boat races. We barely escaped with our lives.

What I don't understand is why this is news at all. The national news vendors are also reporting this absurdity. Have they never seen wasps in DC before? I'm surprised Tony Snow(job) hasn't told us that they are al-Qaeda wasps. Why do these insects hate America?

glad these things are not aggressive.

/unlike yellow jackets aka 'nature's a-holes'

They are big and scary, however they do seem to be non aggressive. Full Size

I want to get stung by the WASP in wldncrzy14's post.

And then eat her pie.

/no references to the metal band??

I'm still waiting for those African Bees that were promised to us years ago.

The state department is already infested with WASPs.

/Or... Even the insect kingdom is starting to hate Bush's people.

Here in SE Wisconsin I've noticed a population explosion (sorta) of blue-black spider wasps. It's fun to watch them sting big garden spiders & carry them off...

I thought the only killer wasps threatening the State Department were Dick Cheney and George Bush
2007-07-14 10:27:58 AM
They do attack during mating season, which happens to be now. They're also freaking huge. I wouldn't really care that they don't usually attack, I'd be terrified of even the potential of having a 2-inch wasp sting me.
2007-07-14 10:32:35 AM
j0ndas, wrong. They do not arbitrarily attack, even during mating season. They only attack if you're farking with them. Don't fark with them, and they will never attack you.
2007-07-14 01:00:51 PM
so the state dept is going to go in, wipe out just enough to get em angry and they will rise up stronger and more aggressive than before because they have nothing to lose?

/oh, snap!
//will the queen talk to a kid named ender?

Better, although not wasps. But still, better.

having solved no problems, fark continues to suck
2007-07-14 09:42:57 PM
These things are HUGE and it's kind of scary when I first saw them. But I smoke like 10 cigarettes a day at 21st St. Entrance and they're there but they don't mess with you.

It's funny to see all of the fat black women get scared of them like crazy though.
2007-07-14 10:11:41 PM
I've had to spray the same wasp nest twice in the last 10 days. They're living right above my door (about 10 inches), once two of them followed me inside, that was not fun.

/yay for organophosphate nerve agents!
//boo for them coming back after 10 days...
