Thats just because people haven't yet realized the awesome potential of the PS3. The potential is so awesome that we won't be able to fully comprehend this for another 50 years. WAIT. JUST YOU WAIT. YOU WILL ALL SEE. PS3 = NEXTNEXTNEXTNEXTGEN.

The wii's kinda cool, not my thing. If PS3 dropped to 399$ it'd sell like hot cakes. The price is really the only thing that's discouraging people (yes there are barely any exclusives but that doesnt have as great effect on people as the price).

Who even cares anymore

I see all this hype with the nintendo wii, but imo it doesnt look like something i could see myslef playing daily. Right now i only have a ps2, but i want a new gen console. Xbox 360 looks like it has alot of cool games, but it keeps breaking down from consumer reports. I would buy a ps3 but the cost is so high and there isn't much of a choice game wise. Any suggestions fellow farkers?

Just got a 360, decent system/games and Xbox Live is really impressive. That said, once PS3 drops in $ and gets some more games, I will probably make the switch back. That said, XBox just extended their warrenty to 3 years so there is some "coverage" in the event it breaks down.

The Wii is great for casual gamers and the under 30 crowd. I have one and so do a couple of my friends and its great at college. You can make up drinking games to go along with Wii sports or just play around with anyone that comes in. Almost all the games have multiplayer function and thats mainly why I got one so that I can play non time consuming games with my friends.

I'm right there with you. A number of my friends have Wiis, but after the initial fun of the controllers wears off it just sits there gathering dust. Very lackluster so far. I'll might pick one up once the new Mario Kart and Smash Bros. comes out, but we'll see, it's definitely not worth it now.

I'm leaning towards a PS3, it has the majority of the exclusive series I care about (MGS, Silent Hill, God of War, and wipeout). But not until the games start coming out (at least GTA4), probably christmas is the earliest I'd seriously consider it. And maybe it'll drop to $450 by then . . . maybe.

This proves my theory of 3rd generation systems for any company. NES rocked, Super Nintendo ruled, Nintendo 64 sucked. PS1 rocked, PS2 Ruled, PS3 sucks. Sega rocked, Sega Genesis ruled, Sega Saturn Sucked. Xbox Rocked, Xbox 360 Rules watch out Microsoft.

In my theory you can only build on existing technology once after that you have to re-invent the wheel ala Wii.

The game selection for Wii will only improve as the year goes on, and the use of the wiimote is subtle, yet effective when done right in non-sports games. For instance, Zelda plays pretty normally with the remote/nunchuk combo, but the use of the wiimote for fighting and fishing comes off natural...and you don't have to stand up.

Microsoft has extended their warranty to 3 years, and there's word that the new 65nm 360s may be less prone to the red ring issue. MS is increasing the capabilities of XBox Live, and the eventual XBMC360 app will make it a pretty good media center box as well.

I'd say something about the PS3, but I haven't considered buying one, so i don't know anything on that front.

What are these innovative games for the wii the article talks about? Sure there's an innovative way to play them, but most are just glorified flash games.

2007-07-13 03:47:17 PM
I have to say for all the trash talk about Sony (and they do deserve a lot of it especially on their music division) they've been pretty good to PS2 owners. There are still good games being released for the PS2.

2007-07-13 03:47:51 PM
1) No more exclusive PS3 titles worth a shiat (My 360 welcomes you, GTA4, RE:5, DMC4, MGS, etc. Come on in!)

2) No definitive win for Blu-Ray just yet (the average douchebag consumer wonders "why am I going to pay $25-30 for a movie that I already bought for $7 at the grocery store?"). An overwhelming majority of Americans have absolutely no understanding of high-definition, what it means, what it looks like, how it works, etc.

3) Still $500+.

4) Sony Entertainment division = arrogant dickbags.

5) Wii = crap graphics, great fun, $250 w/games

6) 360 = great graphics, good fun, great titles coming down the pike, cheaper

I could spend $179 to upgrade my 360's HDD to 120GB, buy a $250 Nintendo Wii, and still not spend as much as the new low-end PS3 would cost me.

/Sony = Pooch, screwed, etc.

Let me just say from a very casual gamer's perspective the Wii is great because you can be at a social gathering, drinking and bullshiatting and you can have a person or two standing around doing a little Wii golf, homerun derby etc while still carrying on a conversation and not totally 'locked in' like people usually are if you have a game going. I don't play video games beyond my N64 Mario Kart anyway, so I don't give a hoot about 'nextgen' or whatever. I also don't have the cash for a nextgen system, and I don't have the time to learn a complex controller with 20 buttons.

I will however be very interested when GTA 4 comes out, because that could change my mind.

I had decided last week that I'd check around and see if it were any easier to actually find a Wii in the local stores, and sad to say, not a one.

Of course, I'm not the type to try showing up before it opens or any of that lame stuff. But a few random day-time drop-bys at different local Targets etc. netted zilch. Ah well, maybe next year. :(

My husband and I are both gamers, but there are very few console games you can play with more than one player. I'm not into WoW or Battlefront--stuff the husband plays--so I don't do the LAN parties. We just got a Wii, and we've played it almost every single night since we got it. It's nothing to go a couple of frames of bowling or nine holes of golf while we're making dinner. We don't have anything else for it yet, although I have preordered Manhunt 2 with the hopes that will eventually come out.

Donnie Darko Get an original XBox and a Gamecube, then buy about two dozen games that aren't on PS2. That should keep you entertained until there's major price breaks, and hardware redesigns on all the next gen stuff. Should cost you less than 400 buck too.

One of the main reasons why i can't see myslef playing a wii is because i like playing fighting games and mission games. I cant see myself trying to play Dragonballz budoakai with the wiimote and nunchuck.

Metal Gear is not coming to the Xbox 360.

Yet.

While I may have spoken too soon about MGS, and probably read too much into the latest rumors, I firmly believe this game will be spinning in my 360's disc drive upon its release.

Perhaps Konami was trying to give PS3 a little boost during E3, trying to give potential buyers another reason get one, in addition to the recent price cut?

I'd like to see Konami keep that game exclusive when PS3 units continue to collect dust on store shelves. Maybe someone should tell Kojima that "units shipped" does not equal "units sold".

God of War 3 will be the only worthy exclusive title, and no one's going to pay nearly $600 (PS3, tax, game) to play it.

MGS will be on 360. Mark my words.

You're right. You're absolutely right. MGS4 will most likely end up on the 360. However, it probably won't happen until many months after it has been released on the PS3. This isn't like GTA4, the contract for MGS has long been signed. So, you will probably see it on the 360, but be prepared to wait at while for it.

I have a 360, after my GF saw me fawn over it at LSU's sports museum, she convinced me to buy it. It's been awesome. The only issue I have is that I have to open and close the drive when I turn it on. If I don't, EA Sports games occasionally lock up. But it's been a blast.

Was walking through Wal-Mart on lunch in February and they were unpacking a box of Wiis. I bought one. It was neat for a while. My girlfriend likes it. I haven't tried any of the Mario games. In fact, the only thing I bought is Tiger Woods. And I still haven't finished 18 holes yet. I've been playing UEFA Champions League and Guitar Hero on the 360.

I did download the Internet Channel, browsing is fun on a 42" plasma, as is Super Mario Bros. But mostly it collects dust. Maybe when the titles I regularly play (sports) begin coming out on the Wii, I'll play them.

But they look soooooo damn good on the 360.

Playing "The Godfather" on my Wii gives me a visceral thrill I don't know I've ever had in gaming. Usually I just sit in my chair while I'm running around doing errands, but when it's time for a battle, I knock my chair out of the way, stand up, and start wailing on guys.

I don't even bother with the firearms, it's too much fun just virtually beating the hell out of guys with your own hands.

Torn.
I'd like to see Nintendo dominate the world for nostalgic reasons, but I have a gut feeling about the PS3. I think in a couple years when some truly incredible games start getting developed for the PS3 and the awesome potential of that system is unleashed, people will forget WII and XBOX ever existed. If you can conceive of the impossible processing power of this machine, is there any other way to see it?
And I hate Sony. They're like the Yankees of the consol wars.

Oh hey if this is going to break into a Sony marketing pissing contest mind if I add new fire.

They go into E3 large, did a decent show...and make a lot of $500 range fence sitters happy with a so-called price cut. Fastforward to last day, Friday. UK exec says the 60GB $500 unit is being discontinued for the 80GB unit. WHen asked, a US exec confirms it, then backpeddles twice, kinda...says they've got to go through their 60GB stock but won't say either way about the cut aside from his original confirmation. So...Sony basically cockpunched anyone who thought they finally were kinda giving some people a break as price didn't get reduced as it's a Big Lots! closeout sale.
