True, but it's also true that Democrats were originally southern socially conservative people. Either way this isn't really a republican or democrat issue; hell it's not even a North vs. South issue. You can be a liberal flag burning hemp wearing hippie and still be homophobic. It's just that they don't institutionalize homophobery at Phish concerts the way they do at Evangelist churches. And as always, and will forever be, the rural areas and small towns of America will be the social anchor holding this country back with their willful ignorance and biggotry.

You can still find restaraunts that will fark with and try to avoid serving black people in central pennsylvania -- gays should really take a number, and black lesbians are REALLY going to have to wait a while. Social change requires generations.

As a Women's Studies major, homophobia is something I encounter both academically and in "real-life" all the time.

I hear such horror stories from class mates and friends, and I'm in Montreal, which is pretty gay-friendly on the Canadian radar, so I can only imaging living somewhere conservative.

I'm not gay myself, but nothing turns me off more then homophobia.

I really hope Moore follows through with this premise.

To the extent that it is true, it indicates that your faith has reached it's post-enlightenment stage of development. To the extent that it is true, it only speaks well of you. When someone makes fun of your faith, and you respond with a tolerant smile and a kind word, you are manifesting the true ethos of the founder of your church.

Second, all of Michael Moore's work so far has been centred on exposing problems in the US society in the hope of fixing it. Why would he do now what an egyptian filmmaker would be more apt to do?

Ripping Michael is like ripping Peyton Manning. So many people have done it, it's become part of the pop culture landscape, and it's ridiculous. And it's not original. It's a cliche for people who know jack shiat about documentaries. News flash...Micahel Moore is very good.

Michael Moore might be the most talented documentarian since Reifenstahl, Ophus, Furtado, or Tredwell. She will, most likely, have a ton of hits. Fans like to beat up on him because he is good, or famous, or rich, or fat or whatever. He rubs people the wrong way.

Just looking at numbers...You know, actual analysis, I have decided that Moore is an absolutely epic film maker. His documentaries might belong in the pantheon, next to "Zapruder", "Grizzly Man", "The Bridge", and "The Blair Witch Project".

Now, we can talk about acting, or heart, or grit, or completely irrelevant things. We can even talk about camera angels, which show that Moore is not as "bad a cinematographer" as you would like to believe. We can even disregard sample sizes, which are the single most important thing when judging documentaries.

Michael Moore is an immortal talent. His message bears this out. Gay jokes and "I'm a Yankees fan so I know" comments, and other silliness mean nothing. The guy is off the charts good.

It's so safe that political candidates feel no compulsion to go to churches and pander to people using code-words like "sanctity of marriage". In fact, it's so safe that the congress is packed full of openly declared atheists, and Christmas isn't even a national holiday anymore; purchasing gifts for that holiday has been strictly banned, following the decisive victory of the anti-Christian Alliance in the Third War on Christmas of 2007.

I am no fan of Mr. Moore; his tactics seem to have much more with sensationalism than with actual facts. None of his "documentaries" make an attempt to show both sides and provide very little objectivity.

I am afraid that this will likely be no different. While I agree that there is still work to be done in North America, there are still many countries in the world where being gay is illegal and still about 10 where people can be executed for it. This should not be ignored and I am fairly sure it will be (pure speculation).

They were democrats, but obviously the parties are not the same as they were in the 1800's. Lincoln was Republican. Thats why Aeonic Blue uses the term conservative, not Democrat or Republican.
