If you're going to be an entertainer, singer or musician, no matter how much of a nutball or headcase you are, there is one rule that is still ABSOLUTE.
The show MUST go on.
If you refuse to follow that, quit the business and pick up a broom, shovel, hammer or wrench, whatever, and go back to your former shallow, pitiful, existence because you don't appreciate the stage.

I heard one of her songs on the radio and I really liked her voice. It has a retro, almost Motown soul and warmth. I thought, hell, maybe we have a pop singer who can do something other than annoying runs and winy crap.

So I went out and bought the record. It was OK, some decent songs but a bunch of filler.

Then I saw a few of her live performances on TV. She is horrible. She has no sense of rhythm, no timing, no vocal range. She was all over the place, even the band looked confused. She was singing out of time and slurring her words.

I guess she's yet another pop star who is made to sound good by ProTools and other studio smoke and mirrors.

I never heard of her before I saw a video of hers on late late night TV a week ago. I didn't much care for the musical styling she was going for and she's too damn skinny for my tastes.

It's sad to see such vocal talent go to waste on such a misguided young woman.

This one is easy.

Go to youtube and type "Joss Stone"
Everything is either a slick music video or Joss in front of a substantial live band singing in a large venue.

Try "Nikka Costa"
She can belt it out in a small smoke filled room with minimal backup.(sometimes only a single guitar)
She is lovely but she doesn't appear to rely on her looks.
She doesn't try too hard.
She is more about the song and less about pulling off an image stunt.

I do have the ability to formulate my own opinions about a singer/artist without the sole aid of youtube/internet but when one does search there you can often tell how they are marketed.

Nikka Costa is talent on top--and sexy image later.

Joss and most others are the other way around.

It's a shame she's such a wreck. I really enjoyed her recent MTV mini-concert "Live At 45th".
