Actually subby that's not how I read it, but anyway.

"I don't know how my uncle could do that to somebody," said Amanda Schnagl, Steele's niece.

Schnagl says she kicked him out a year ago for running a scam out of her house.

There's your clue right there.

The headline could be a LOT better, subby. You just ruined the cliche. Forever. Tell me, how does it feel?

Wow, a headline this incomprehensible was greenlit. Genius!

FTFA: "It was different. I can't say it was creative, because it didn't work," said Johnson.

No, you can say it was creative. Creativity doesn't even imply success, just thinking differently.

Woman to Police: My car has been stolen. Police to woman: No you can't have, not your. I just came to point out the shiatty headlines that get greenlighted. The ModMins must not be able to spell either. Always reread before the 2nd click.

Yeah, that headline sucked. To figure out what the article is about I'll actually have to click on the link. W, I say, WTF?

Missing an 's' there dontcha think?

I know this happens and gets corrected all the time but I'm always frustrated by the fact that I didn't get to see the mistake before it was corrected.

So there ya go.

The story does not say how they caught him. I would hope that the first thing the police would do upon a repo notice is check out the registration information for the auto. That should link with any legitimate lien holders and permit verification.

The VIN # is right on the dashboard, you just look through the windshield.

give me doughnuts: The niece, Amanda Schnagl, kicked him out last year for stealing most of the vowells from her last name.

Now that's just funny.

The Ravaging Ungulate

It's quite easy actually. Most auto identification numbers are posted on a small steel plate embedded in the dashboard, which is viewable from outside of the car from the drivers side.

Has anyone commented on the headline, yet?

God, what shiatty reporting. He got a key? How? Oh, he has a repo business? Good thing you don't mention that until half the story later. He was caught in Maplewood? What's in Maplewood? Is that significant? Why was he stopped? Was the car flagged as stolen by then? Was it in a different county than his repo front? WTF happened?

After reading so many of these on Fark, I've come to the conclusion that local news reporters are generally dumber than a bag of rocks.

2007-07-07 06:36:43 PM
Think this is more about the cops than the con:

Con: Hello, police? I'm a repo man and I'm going to take possesion of this car.
Police: OK. Thanks for letting us know. Have a nice day.

Asshats all around if you ask me...

Schnagal is not the victim, just a relative they got to comment on the criminal nature of the defendant.

Yes, look at the dashboard at the bottom driver's side corner of the windshield. There they are!

Why haven't more crooks done this in the past?

Oh, they DO. That's why many people strategically place a piece of paper or something over the VIN. It's not just lousy housekeeping.

Had something like this happen to me once while working at the mall record store. Parked my car in the parking lot in the same spot I always do every day. So I was pretty damn pissed all to hell when I came out and found no car after 8 hrs work. Called the cops, went and reported the car stolen, called for a ride back home, and finally contacted the insurance company. The whole big pain in the arse.

So the next day I get a ride in with my then GF, and guess what I find....yup, my car. The thing was about 150-200 yards from where I had parked it, at the far end of the mall parking lot. Went out to get the car, and see how farked up it was, and found the rear of the car all dinged up from where It hit something. That something being the retaining wall after it had somehow popped outta gear (Stick Shift) and then rolled completely across the parking lot into the wall.

Oh, and for everyone ever to be as unfortunate as me, you would not believe what a royal farkin pain in the nuts it is to get the Insurance Co. that you reported the car stolen to, to then listen to you when you tell them it WASNT stolen. I actually had to get the 2 police who were handling the case to sign off on a statement stating the car had never been stolen, with a farkin $85.00 notary there to witness the whole damn thing (WTF?). Thats the only way that they would not up my rates for having a car stolen.

What a load of crap. How do people get jobs writing articles like that? They have to be related to the company that sells the fishwrapper or something. I had to re-read entire sentences, re-check paragraphs, and still, WTF?
really, wtf?

man, you guys really know how to hurt a guy. as i trolled the thread, i kept expecting to see the obligatory "the reporter is hittable" comment and, when it didnt appear, hope sprang eternal that i might, against all odds, be the first to mention it.

and then i hit the great wall of china in the form of vegasj.
