Don't worry, in a few thousand years (hopefully earlier) christianity, islam, judaism and other major religions will be taught as myths. Hopefully new ones won't spring up and become popular.

No no no, it's not Satan. It's the secular scientist witch doctors, working on Satan's behalf, who seek to undermine the Lord.

I believe it is a million year old tooth.

I also believe that if God wanted a tooth there that appeared to be a million years old, he would put it there... :)

Damn all this evidence in favor of evolution!

Not criticizing you here, but this reminds me of how a lot of creationists talk about how God made the earth to appear as if it were old... why would God deceive people like that?

Just because you believe something does not make it true.

Can be said about both sides.

It makes me angry that we can't even be in awe of this amazing discovery without wondering how the creationazis will react. They are truly a plague on the advancement of knowledge.

Homonids are a remarkable animal. Relish it, christians. Stop fearing discovery because of the implications to your archaic myth.

Well, of course, White people were created by God. All others are basically trained animals that have been on the earth a much longer time. Geeez, don't you know anything.

So much tangible proof of Satan, yet absolutely zero proof of God.

Maybe Satan invented God and wrote the absurdly undefendable Bible to fool us for some reason.

Hail Satan!!

/Just kidding....atheist.

I wonder why it is Satan seems to be so much more convincing than God about the whole origin of life thing.

You obviously have not had any interaction with people in your life. Mythology is probably the one cohesive element that unites all human beings across all cultures and times.

Also, the major religions really don't die, they just fade away and get absorbed into the new ones. Because hiding Easter eggs and Christmas trees have EVERYTHING to do with Jesus.

Wow, so many comments on how religious people who don't believe in evolution are going to rush in here and go nuts, yet not a single religious person has, in fact, come in here and gone nuts!

What INeedAName said.

Christianity is fine. There's nothing wrong with believing that Jesus was the messiah for those so inclined. But going the route of claiming that a 2,000 year old collection of books that has been translated countless times is infallible is just setting yourself up for disappointment and failure.

2007-06-30 03:16:36 PM
I've always wondered about the people who say they believe in god, but that they also accept that evolution is how life as we know it today got to be.

So do you believe in the idea of a god, or are you christian? I think I can accept the idea of an undefined god that simply put evolution into action. But if you call yourself a christian, but also accept evolution, then you're believing in two things that are contradictory. Either that or you're one of those people that believe that the first six days were simply metaphorical and maybe he meant billions of years instead of six days. But if that's the case, then how do we know when the bible is being metaphorical and when it's being accurate. At that point we're just using the parts of the bible we agree with and saying they're serious, and saying the parts we don't agree with either don't apply anymore or are just metaphorical. At that point, what's the use of the bible anyway? You already know where you stand, why do you need a book and a metaphorical creation story?

Also, million year old human tooth? I'm skeptical as to its date and/or if it's really a human tooth. Most of the other data we have says humans just didn't exist back then. I'd like to see follow ups on this. I'm quite intrigued by it, but also quite skeptical as to their findings.

That is the ugliest website I've seen in a long time.

Anyways, I'm not trying to steal their arguments. It's just logical that if you believe in God, you believe that he could do anything he damn well wanted to.

Does it say anywhere in the article why scientists think it's a million years old, and not only it's not nine hundred thousand years old?

No, no no. Don't you know how logic works? There are only two sides to every issue. Nothing is complex or nuanced. Either that tooth is phony or God is dead. No two ways about it!
