I see a lot of people attacking the creationists as "nazis" or "retards", and I see a lot of self-patting-on-backs, but I don't see a lot of Christians actually attacking y'all.

Plenty of Christians recognize that evolution is the way life develops. No need to act like idiots' y'all.

What get me is that there does have to be a cause for the universe. The big bang got set up by some other process. Matter came into being somehow. It's not like any atheists are any more accurate about that topic. Meanwhile, religion continues to be the greatest source of charity to the poor, and hope to the suffering. As Atheists hold the record for ideological murder.

They come in all stripes, atheists and theists, but those here that are so vicious in attacking Christians obviously belong to the shiat-head stripe.

Twigz221:
But if you call yourself a christian, but also accept evolution, then you're believing in two things that are contradictory.

You don't have to take every part of the Bible as litteral truth to be a Cristian. Very few Christians do that.

oh goody, an evolution thread. this ought to go well.

Arcanum

Maybe the reason the christians arnt attacking and contradicting us anymore, is the fact that in order to attack evolution and defend christianity, one would need some solid basis on which to defend christianity and attack evolution. Unfortunate for christians, neather has presented itself in a long time, and as more evidence comes to light, evolution is clearly supported by fact and christanity is not.

Just maybe why no christians are running to make assults on this topic.

Belief in God does not mean I can't believe in evolution.

No, but, frankly, it also means (at least in my view), that you also haven't done the sort of honest assessment about the world that we all like to have good laughs at creationists for not doing. What is the God you believe in? A God of the gaps who fills in the places that science necessarily can not answer? An real entity who gives you comfort about life after death and understanding the nature of evil? A force of universal oneness that to you embodies the strength and life of the universe? An honest reevaluation will quickly convince you that none of these gods are real - they are all coping constructs that are grounded in your wishes and needs, but NOT any sort of meaningful actual reality. Belief is the pretense of knowledge without evidence. Life is a hell of a lot more interesting without such self-delusions.

Don't just put it on Christians.

"Regarding your question whether the Qur'anic account of creation is incompatible with man having evolved; if evolution entails, as Darwin believed, that "probably all the organic beings which have ever lived on this earth have descended from one primordial form, into which life was first breathed" (The Origin of Species, 455), I apprehend that this is incompatible with the Qur'anic account of creation."

"And [mention] when your Lord said to the angels, 'Truly, I will create a man from clay. So when I have completed him, and breathed into him of My spirit, then fall down prostrate to him.' And the angels prostrated, one and all. Save for Satan, who was too proud to, and disbelieved. He said to him, 'O Satan, what prevented you from prostrating to what I have created with My two hands? Are you arrogant, or too exalted?' He said,'I am better than he; You created me from fire and created him from clay'" (Qur'an 38:71-76).

Great Janitor: Don't worry, creationists will soon tell us that since we've detonated nuclear weapons, all carbon dating is completely wrong.

Some claim that the great flood (Noah and all that) screwed up carbon dating which is why it is inaccurate.

It happens in local government and school board meetings every day throughout the country. A bunch of Christians get together and try to figure out how they're going to pump Jesus into schools, the government, and everyone's daily lives.

Sure it's not some joker jumping on Fark posting "You atheists are morons! Ha! Ha!" The attacks tend to happen much higher up in the food chain and are made by people who are in a relative position of power.

2007-06-30 03:31:59 PM
Seriously, the only bad part about debunking Christianity is debunking the 10 Commandments.

Because I happen to agree with 7 of them.

Religion is a virus that infects the weak and slow. The day will come when they are either "cured" or terminated to protect the genepool.

according to the Sumarians - the Anunnaki came to this planet and created "slave" labor from the beings already here by manipulating DNA so the humaniods could do their bidding.(Hence the reason for the "missing link"). Also - the Anunnaki established civilization, taking upon themselves the role of "Gods".
Note the commandment: "There shall be no other Gods before me" - doesn't specify that there weren't other Gods - just that they shouldn't be worshipped in preference to Yaweh. (Jehovah, God, whatever)...
So.... keeping on track with the thread - tis possible that a tooth could be that old, since we really don't even know how old the pyramids or the Sphinx are.
Anyone interested in the Anunaki (Sumerian theories of mankinds origins) see this site: http://www.sitchin.com

Got it. Where in the article did they show why the geological level is one million years old?

It's called stratigraphy, the study of the origin and age of geological strata. The rocks in which the tooth were found are from the same geological stratum that has been dated to ~1m ybp.

kemicalmoz all children are born atheists

I think it would be more accurate to say that they are born agnostic. If you found a child who had not been pre-conditioned either way by their parents and asked them if God existed, they would most likely answer 'I dunno'.

Did you not read the whole second half of my post. If you don't take the bible literally, then what's the point of being a christian. You're just defining your beliefs on your own. The book has nothing to do with it. You have your beliefs and your morals already. You don't need a book to get them. You're just choosing the parts of that book that you agree with, pushing those forward, and then saying that you got your morals from those passages. You have it backwards. If you can trust 100% of the bible literally, why take any of it literally?

Dear smidiot:

When posting scientific articles, kindly apply some of the impressive brain power that evolution has so fortuitously given us in order to suppress the primal urge to start a flame war. By mocking the creationists, you merely encourage them to come into what could otherwise be an intelligent discussion on an interesting scientific find in order to shiat all over it with their stupid.

If you simply stated the facts of the matter, in all likelihood the creatatards would not show up at all, and people who actually care about things like this could have an intelligent discussion for once.

Also, to the mods, I realize that the primary purpose in greenlighting any article is to make more money for Drew, but it would be really nice if every once in awhile you could greenlight something dealing with a subject like this that isn't being greened solely for the purpose of creating an enormous, ad-impression-getting shiatstorm of stupid.

Thanks,

Me

It's not fair to twist a man's words just because he's long dead. Diderot wasn't talking about killing all the believers, but about eliminating the false authorities of royalty and clericy maintaining a status quo of oppression and exploitation of the people.

1. That's just ridiculous.

2. That's ridiculous too. The human mind makes stuff.

3. I believe in that one! Don't use GOD's name to con money from people and an assortment of other benefits people derive in the name of God.

4. That goes with #3. I pray that God ignites a bush in my back yard and tells me personally to take Sunday's off with witnesses. Until then, I've got shiat to do.

5. I'd agree with that. If it had a clause to honor your children as well.

6. Cool

8. Cool

Omarion
Don't worry, in a few thousand years (hopefully earlier) christianity, islam, judaism and other major religions will be taught as myths. Hopefully new ones won't spring up and become popular.

Or religious people will finally get it and will believe that both religion and science and coexist peacefully and without any of these troll-esque discussions.

Or, in the words of a friend: As long as people die and can't return to tell us what is like, there's always gonna be someone trying to explain it.

Dr. Vagin-O-Mite!
Thanks for clearing something up which the article failed to describe fully and in which snarky Farkers were unhelpful. To take your point further, hasn't neocatastrophism advanced in recent years to become a rather serious contender with gradualism?
