I'll get the inevitable "This is not irony" post out of the way right now. Now if she had done that and the airlines would have accepted her at her original height, that, my friends, is irony.

2002-09-03 12:23:34 PM
Wow... That's dedication!

Dumb, but dedication. IMO

2002-09-03 12:29:45 PM
She's got high hopes!

Get it? High hopes?? Hee hee.

2002-09-03 12:30:24 PM
I hope this isn't the same method used in all those emails I get with subjects "Gain 2 to 3 inches!"

OUCH!!!

2002-09-03 12:44:28 PM
Any idea why the airlines would have the height policy? Looks pretty asinine as first glance ...

Hey, go ahead and break your legs. I'll pass, thanks.

2002-09-03 12:47:00 PM
Fvcking stupid! I can't believe her dumbas parents supported this! Sheeeesh

Too short, pick another career! Who's damn dream is to be a freakin' airline attendant?!?!? WTF?

/rant

Won't she be surprised and disappointed when she learns what the real life of a flight attendant is like. If you want to learn about the tourism industry, be a character at Disney or something... they take short people.

Poor misguided creature...

And yes, nothing ironic about this. Sad, perhaps.

2002-09-03 12:53:06 PM
Actually, irony would be her getting the job and having her first flight crash and kill everyone on board.

*crosses fingers*

2002-09-03 01:09:41 PM
I would break my legs to have a 5'2" penis. I think that's ironic.

2002-09-03 02:12:43 PM
She applying to be a flight attendant at gattaca?

/dweeb

2002-09-03 02:50:09 PM
I think they have the height requirment in so they can comfortably reach the bins above for luggage storage.

I hope she does make it...only to see the crap life the stewardess' live.

2002-09-03 03:18:46 PM
Not ironic ... sad ...

2002-09-03 04:23:44 PM
You guys don't understand why she did it?? Yet snake oil to give you a bigger penis is a multimillion dollar industry. And for what? I can only think of one job that has a length requirement.

And for the record, she didn't break her legs every 4 hours. She turned screws so they wouldn't heal. But I guess the visual of her taking a sledge hammer to her legs every four hours gets the admin. attention better.

2002-09-03 04:26:23 PM
Now that she's joined the 5' high club she can join the mile high club.

2002-09-03 05:53:06 PM
Alton

If she just rubbed snake oil on her legs, fine... I am not turning a screw in my John Thomas 4x a day, tho...

Waitress!

2002-09-03 05:53:17 PM
She could work for Southwest - they only do short flights.

The way that reads the parents should be in jail.

Thanks Desecrated.

2002-09-03 05:54:48 PM
Well, she should just take a plane once, and her dreams would be shattered to see that she went through all this ordeal just to become a glorified waitress. What is actually glamourous in being an air hostess? Your job is to serve drinks, food, deal with the obnoxious kinds. And as for traveling, ever you are serving domestic flights and you never have the time to stop and smell the roses of s many local airport towns, or you will travel internationally, and you'll be too tired to go for a nite on the town. And anyway, you'll be gone the next day.

ironic? try |SICK|

this girl needed to have her head examined long ago and the doctor and parents who allowed this to happen should be ashamed of themselves

2002-09-03 05:55:55 PM
Do flight attendants really make enough money that this is worth it? I mean, what's the return on investments here?

2002-09-03 05:56:12 PM
I'll have to be nice to her when I ask her for a Bloody Mary, won't I.

2002-09-03 05:56:13 PM
Like 10,000 spoons when all you need is a knife.
Isn't it moronic. Don't you think?

2002-09-03 05:57:02 PM
No freakin' job is worth that...

"Flying the unfriendly skies.."

2002-09-03 05:57:17 PM
If she wants to be a waitress so bad, why not go to Denny's -- they don't have a height requirement at all.

2002-09-03 05:57:22 PM
Two Gattaca references already. Hooray for Fark :-D

2002-09-03 05:58:08 PM
I hate to read that...I love very short girls. It's kinda like hearing about breast reduction surgery...DON'T DO IT!

2002-09-03 05:58:35 PM
I saw that leg stretching thing on a special on TLC or Discovery about little people/dwarves. The level of dedication needed for this is simply amazing.

My first thought was what a waste for her to do this to become a flight attendant, but then who am I to judge the dreams of others.

2002-09-03 05:59:37 PM
And dammit, that's not irony!!!

Irony would be if she did it and wound up being TOO tall to qualify.

This just sucks.

2002-09-03 06:00:30 PM
Actually, I wanted to grow a few inches a few years back, more of a lifestyle thing. Don't know if I'd try this, though.

2002-09-03 06:00:31 PM
Emma said: "Becoming a flight attendant is the only thing I've ever wanted to do and I think the course will really help me to learn all about the tourism industry and will hopefully give me the opportunity to get a foot on the ladder."

she couldn't quite reach the lowest rung on the ladder.....

(rim shot)

ISeeYourDisease: I don't see your post.

You know, the mushroom mines are looking for people her height.

If she were really really really small, she could marry a palm pilot.

Now the questions are:

1) What does she look like? (before and after)
2) Can she still farking walk?
3) Why would you put yourself through that pain to...er...fall short?
4) Why doesn't she do something else in the friendly skys?
5) Was it a medical problem or just a cosmetic one? (the article implies it was medical...but from the sound of it in the interview it wasn't)

2002-09-03 06:05:44 PM
Mr. Play It Safe was afraid to fly
He packed his suitcase and kissed his kids good-bye
He waited his whole damn life to take that flight
And as the plane crashed down he thought
"Well, isn't this nice." And Isn't this ironic ... don't you think?

wouldn't it be great if she was on this flight?

2002-09-03 06:05:57 PM
I've read about this surgery before. Dwarfs/dwarves (depending on your nationality) get it to approach a more normal appearance. Their torsos are more normal size, but they have stubby arms and legs. This surgery also gives them better posture and less back problems later in life.

But man, some people just need to accept what they are and not try to become quack doctor's sculpture.

2002-09-03 06:07:06 PM
What I don't get is that she WANTS to be a flight attendant...

2002-09-03 06:07:56 PM
I'm glad I'm not the only one who considers this girl to be partially insane.

She could do just about anything else. Why not be an astronaut? I hear there's a spot on the Russian flight.

Break 'em again, baby!

Sorry, you're not enticing enough!

Actually all I care about is whether she can bring me my drink and one of those dinky little pillows fast enough...

JOHNDX: Fvcking stupid! I can't believe her dumbas parents supported this! Sheeeesh

Damn straight. Those parents don't happen to know the Lindh couple, do they? The first line of the story should read: "A teenager who had her legs lengthened in a desperate cry for help..."

Oh, and I love their definition of "several" here:
Emma was 4ft 9in when she had the operation in January 2000 and since then she has grown several inches. But at 5ft 1in she still falls an inch under the minimum height requirement.

She didn't grow several inches; she grew two inches! Two is not several; it's a couple. Dictionary.com: "Being of a number more than two or three but not many: several miles away".

2002-09-03 06:13:33 PM
Anyone catch that she did this at 16. Don't you think you would wait until you stop growing before you start breaking your legs.
