That much animal blood can be a major biohazard if it gets into the water. Trichinosis, salmonella, e. coli--they can all last long enough to cause major problems. Hopefully they have a decent hazmat team that knows to find the nearest sewer inlet and plug it up! Plug it up! Plug it up! Plug it up!

Twenty years ago, when I was an on-call claims adjuster, I got an assignment of a semi overturn on I-35. The trailer was an open top trailer, carrying 2 tons of dried hogs blood, covered with a tarp. It rolled over when the driver took the on ramp too fast and dumped the whole load on the shoulder.

We had back hoes out there scooping it up into a relief trailer. Then it started to rain. Ungodly stink. We got most of it up but the grass on that shoulder was the grenest and thickest for years afterward.
