Well Duh! Who watches sports in General? Men...What would it take to get men to watch women sports....Lots of Running, Tight (possibly wet) shirts and sans bras.

2002-09-02 12:39:57 PM
People aren't asking Tiger Woods to take off his clothes, and if they did he wouldn't do it, I hope,"

That makes 2 of us.
2002-09-02 12:40:29 PM
Sad but true.
2002-09-02 12:41:05 PM
Nothing but toe.
2002-09-02 12:42:22 PM
I told my wife when the WNBA started that unless those girls played in bikinis, it'd flop. People don't want to admit it, but it's just the way it is.
2002-09-02 12:42:29 PM
They couldn't expect to be watched if they didn't offer anything, right? Obviously.
2002-09-02 12:43:01 PM
By "it" I meant the *league* would flop.

2002-09-02 12:43:25 PM
Is emphasizing sex appeal the best way to sell women's sports? In a word, yes

replace best with only.
2002-09-02 12:43:46 PM
erm... repetition?
2002-09-02 12:44:26 PM
I have always been an advocate of women's nude gymnastics.
2002-09-02 12:45:59 PM
Please post examples for proof.

Women should stick to womens sports, like hot oil wrestling and foxy boxing.

Man, I don't even swing that way, and I still want to do her.

Um Jess when you do, please tape it, k?

Pretty women make us buy beer
Ugly women make us drink beer.

Would we watch the Man Show if not for the Juggies?
Would we watch tennis if not for Serena and Anna?
Would football be any good without cheerleaders?
Does women's volleyball get a big crowd and sponsors? If so, figure out why?

Sex sells. They sell it, they flaunt it, we watch it. Duh.
2002-09-02 12:55:02 PM
That is if you don't mind sloppy seconds from Enrique ;-)

2002-09-02 12:55:48 PM
beach volleyball, anyone?
2002-09-02 12:59:49 PM
You have to offer the fans something that mens sports doesn't, and it's certainly not going to be talent.
2002-09-02 01:00:14 PM
Dutch sports babe Leontien van Moorsel (bike racer)

Another pro.
SFW for those who cannot enjoy labo(u)r day...

Cons: any remnant of the soviet gymnastics... (eeee-ugh).
2002-09-02 01:06:11 PM

Thanks for making this day at my hellhole of a job a little better. She's strikingly beautiful.
2002-09-02 01:08:26 PM
Daniela Hantuchova is nice, too.

Do women vest a sexual interest in mens sports in order to be entertained? I don't know the answer to this question I just would like to know since it seems obvious a large number of males do.
2002-09-02 01:12:27 PM
Oh my....someone pass the kitten please.
2002-09-02 01:12:32 PM
Anna is not hot. Cute, but not hot.
2002-09-02 01:12:49 PM
I have heard repeated reference to men's asses when women discuss football, so, probably, yes.
2002-09-02 01:14:00 PM
There's quite a few that are interested in 'tight ends', i hear.
2002-09-02 01:15:34 PM
"There's no evidence that it has ever helped a sport to expose women or to sexualize women,..."

Now that's a load of crap.
2002-09-02 01:16:20 PM
Does this remind anyone of that old SNL (the era of Bulishi, Ackroyd, Ratner, etc.) comercial parody of the T&A Olympics? How could a show that was so funny back then suck so hard now and still be on the air?
2002-09-02 01:16:58 PM
Eh...I don't like big beefy athletic men. I like a man with an intellect and a little pudge in the tummy. Does that make me weird?
2002-09-02 01:17:30 PM
Yeah, honestly I think women watch sports for the sex appeal more than men do. I would never consider getting together with a bunch of friends to go to a sports bar to watch Anna's match. But I would do the same thing to watch a Colts game. Female sports stars are portrayed sexily off the court and it's almost a separate thing.
2002-09-02 01:18:06 PM
I am not so sure about sex appeal being a major when trying to attention. Didn't Figure skating get a boost when Tonya Harding was implicated in trying to get rid of the competition?
2002-09-02 01:18:10 PM

Nope, not weird, just my dream girl.
2002-09-02 01:22:23 PM
Jessss you called?
2002-09-02 01:23:50 PM
Duh! Sex Sales.
2002-09-02 01:24:44 PM
Jessss--I'm the same way. I never did get much out of the big muscular type. My bf worries about the itty bitty belly he has now, and I keep telling him I think it's adorable.
2002-09-02 01:27:31 PM
"The money Kournikova makes from commercial endorsements is in the same league as the income of the better playing Williams sisters, who, by the way, also have done plenty of off-court photo spreads emphasizing sex appeal."

I'd hit them!
with a tennis racket.
2002-09-02 01:28:14 PM
For all your hot tennis chick needs click here

Some are good, some are not so good but it's worth a look.

Site will probably be farked before long too.
2002-09-02 01:29:24 PM

I'd hit em too if I wasn't so scared of them hitting me back.
2002-09-02 01:35:18 PM
tennis rhymes with penis. so this is probably why tennis women are popular.
2002-09-02 01:38:45 PM

Uhhhh... perhaps it's just because it involves women playing with balls...

(Sorry, couldn't contain myself).
2002-09-02 01:48:02 PM
I don't understand why people are objecting to the sexualization of women, when women are already sex objects to begin with.

It seems to presuppose that we have desexualized women, which would be an oxymoron on the surface.

On a side note, yesterday NPR had an entertaining interview with an individual who had undergone a female-to-male sex reassignment. The interviewer was asking the individual about what changes they had observed once they started getting testosterone injections. The one I thought was the funniest was when he said "I understand physics a lot better now than I did before."
2002-09-02 01:51:09 PM
Anna Kournikova plays tennis ?!?!?!? No way! Go figure.
2002-09-02 02:04:52 PM
Sad but true fact. As long as men run the organizations (and control the money), as long as men run the sponsors (and control where the organizations get their money), as long as men are the vast majority of the sports-watching audience (and control where the sponsors get their money) and women are socialized from childhood that watching sports is a "guy thing", then yes. It'll be all about the boobies. Guys watch sports, and guys like boobies.

I'm a coach and an athlete. Fortunately, my sport (weightlifting) is so obscure that the women aren't put through that kind of bullshiat to appeal to the masses. No one wants to hit us - as it was revealed on a thread a while back (looked for it to link but couldn't find it - the one about "strong chicks are the best chicks"), truly strong women are not appealing to the average guy. We seem to frighten them, for some reason. I mean if those "fitness" models scared the repondents so much, I can only imagine what a weightlifting champion would do. Even one of the tiny little lightweights.

Ah well. Don't know the solution, but it would be nice to be appreciated for athletic ability it took me years to develop and not for my 44DD bra size. Women's athletics are in a real quandry, here. On the one hand, the philosophical drive behind having them at all is that we encourage young women to break out of the "sex object" stereotype and be a fully actualized individual. But if they lived that, and stopped marketing the sex aspect, out of principle, what would happen? Women's sports orgs would go under, probably. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

Can any of the guys here explain the whole boobie to me, though? You don't look at football payers' cups and do a mental comparison, right? Or do you? Why can't men seem to be able to get past the boobies and appreciate the sport? Not a rhetorical question - I really do want to understand...
2002-09-02 02:05:20 PM
Men are simply the way we are. Some of us can enjoy the company of women for beauty AND intellect or talent. We are not perverts or deviants simply because we like a tight shirt or a short skirt on a girl.

Just the way it is.

And rock.
2002-09-02 02:11:51 PM
Carol, do you really have a 44DD bra size? Please post a link to your boobies pic!
2002-09-02 02:17:05 PM

When I was just a kid I was fascinated with breasts. They are beautifully shaped and are as sexy clothed as unclothed. Softness = comfort. Men are hard, for the most part...we like softness. Nothing is quite as soft (or beautiful) as a woman's breasts.

**even now I am smiling**

It doesn't mean that you are nothing more than T and A to some of's just nature and a twist of upbringing. Women are works of art. Pure and simple.

Breasts are just somewhat sexual in nature, and they are usually there for all of us to (thankfully) see...even when covered.

Now I need to bang my head into a wall a few thousand times to get my mind focused again...
2002-09-02 02:27:32 PM
Isn't this why people watch football and baseball? To watch all them butts?

I'm getting tired of just men playing sports. This is discriminatory. Where are the women? I'd start watching sports myself if this came to be.
2002-09-02 03:05:03 PM

It's misplaced to equate men being focused on boobies with the inability to appreciate the sport. Focused on boobies does not = appreciating the sport.

Guys like boobies. It's a biological thing. Nothing can be done to change that. If the boobies are moving and on a fit woman, more's the better, they will be watched.

If you do your sport for your own enjoyment, Great. Just Do It. Hopefully, you haven't put in years of discipline and work just so that other people will appreciate your commitment. Hopefully, it's satisfying enough to you personally, that you don't need approval.

I just hate all this stuff about trying to make women and men exactly the same. For the luvvaPete, men and women are NOT the same. They are both intelligent, sentient beings and have the same rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, but they are NOT THE SAME. Men (if you're looking at the gender as a whole) tend to place a higher priority (or more immediate priority) on physical appearance based on their own personal tastes. On the whole, men's average personal taste seems to favor large breasts and skinny waists. It's not a virtue, not a vice, but just a fact.

Anyway, I should be working, so I'm cutting myself off here, but if you are wishing that men would change their basic nature, then wish for me to have a pony too, because I would like to have a pony of my very own.

Oh my. A revelation! Women using sex appeal to promote their sporting activities. What ever will happen next?

(Sorry. I don't know how to make the hot link, so you'll just have to cut & past. But, as I recall, everyone agreed that it was worth the extra trouble.)
