phillydrifter-

Blue Moon with a slice of orange = YUM!

/ otherwise, hates wheat beer.
//not sure why I tried it the first time but glad I did!

The three worst are still horehound, circus peanuts and candy corn.

Starburst are the most addictive candies. Last halloween, we were giving them out at work. I took a few packs. Ended up eating all the starburst we had, and had to go to the cornerstore to get myself 2 more packs.

Best candy with WORST,... NAME,... EVAR: Toffifay. Creamy chocolate around a hazelnut in a caramel cup with a dot of darker chocolate on top. Awesome candy (though expensive per unit weight), total train-wreck of a name. I'm almost embarrassed to buy 'em - not that you can find them in most stores, though they do still exist.

Charleston Chews. Yeah.

2007-06-16 04:26:13 PM
The old Tropical Starburst, before the flavors were changed. I haven't found a new favorite candy since.

Junior Mints. Best thing to do with Junior Mints besides eating them plain, is stick a few in a camp-fire percolator coffee-pot - or at least in the near-boiling coffee before you drink it. They melt down nicely with no solid precipitates and give you a nice chocolate-mint-y coffee.

Tootsie Rolls: Nature's toothbrush.

Chocolate is king, but there's definitely a hierarchy. Any of the Hershey/Nestles/M&M-Mars/ultra-main-stream stuff is crap compared to most imported (non-USA) chocolate - there's just a world of difference. Get any chocolate that shows you the cocoa-solids percentage - especially the ones in the high-60's or a little above (I've seen as high as, no kidding, 99%), and be prepared for bliss. Look for that kind of stuff wherever you see Toblerones. It's expensive, but damn is that some good stuff.

A few exceptions to the Hershey/Nestle/M&M-Mars generalization: Hershey's Dark Chocolate Raspberry Kisses = crack-level addictiveness; plus I still have a soft spot for any M&M's - peanut, plain, *almond* and, yes, even peanut butter and those crunch-style ones. The dark-chocolate Milky Way bars and the Almond Snickers are pretty satisfying, too.

CaptainBeer: Bacon is the best candy. Try to argue - you will lose.

mmmmmm, crispy strips of salted goodness.

/my kids prefer bacon over chocolate
//somehow, it just seems wrong...

2007-06-16 04:30:23 PM
Good: Abba Zaba.

Bad: Kandy Korn.

Captain Beefheart would be perplexed.

My wife and I own a bulk candy store and sell about 75% of all the candies mentioned in this thread.

Our biggest sellers: Popcorn Jelly Belly and Pecan Turtles Gummies (bears, worms, etc.) are a close second.

Our worst sellers: anything Licorice (we stopped carrying circus peanuts and candy corn -- nobody bought them)

2007-06-16 04:34:25 PM
ok, beer does not taste like candy.

WTF is wrong with you people?

Want to see a happy guy? Just let me know where I can find truly fresh Butterfingers. Watching me go through a case of those is not for the faint of heart.
My main motivation for having a paper route as a kid was to be able to buy frozen Zeros all summer long.
Most of my teeth are still mine.

Riesen caramels (which I love).

Jolly Ranchers (which I enjoy once in a while - especially the watermelon and tart green apple ones).

I have a major sweet tooth so all candy is game. Gummies, Bleeps, and anything chocolate are my favorites. The absolute worst is that "Kona" whatever coffee flavored gum made by Wrigley's. I love coffee but that gum is just wrong!

That's where to find the old candies you used to love. My daughter likes to get the horehound, clove and sassafras candy sticks to give to her enemies and teachers. Also, the 'bug in the candy' candy too.

I have to go with Nerds. With Lik-M-Aid aka Fun Dip. And while Skittles are good, they're not the best.

/taste the rainbow

Skittles are my favorites, so I approve of this list.

Skittles + Starburst = Startles

/obscure?

Oh and Hilary T. N. Seuss COFFEE CRISP is indeed covered with a light layer of chocolate, making it a chocolate bar, making it candy, making it delicious.

Starburst jelly beans is the best candy EVAR!!!
They blow jelly belly away.

I can't believe it's only been mentioned once so far.

2007-06-16 08:55:14 PM
Clark bars
Snickers (frozen ftw)
Spree
Reeses Peanut butter cups
Rolo
Bottle caps
Peanut M&Ms
Milk Duds
Cadbury Milk Chocolate bars
Tootsie Rolls
Whoppers

There are way too many candies to list that are simply nasty....

And I'm unlucky - my kids love Skittles and I hate them. I think they like them because Dad won't eat any of them.

Hmm, I think you mean Whoppers! Chocolate covered malted milk balls, right? Also kicks candy ass.
Forgot one of my childhood favs... cow tails! It was like a soft caramel tube filled with compressed powdered sugar *drool*.
