I know exactly what you mean, Dr.Knockboots. I started to yay for a Maine thread, but then I remembered... Maine is the Fark of New England. And for that matter, like it's ever hot enough here in June for that. I'm in a sweatshirt with the house closed up and the heat on, for God's sake.

/Yarmouth, represent!

Oh I know him quite well. The radio station I work at does lots of promotion for his shows when he comes to Maine. I even introduced one of his shows at the Grand Auditorium in Ellsworth. Really nice guy in person and an absolutely hysterical comedian.

/WOOOO Bangor finally made it to Fark!
//Lives a half mile from that bridge

studebaker hoch: This thread is worthless without knowing how high the bridge was.

FTFA: Eyewitnesses to the incident, which occurred around 10:15 p.m., said the man was on the ledge of the bridge for about 10 minutes before the plunge, which Bangor fire officials confirmed Friday.

Well it was high enough that it took a drunk guy 10 minutes to talk himself into jumping.

Here are two pics of the bridge in question:

That bridge would be awesome to jump off. Hope it's at least 18 feet deep though.

that bridge needs a coat or two

Well it was high enough that it took a drunk guy 10 minutes to talk himself into jumping.

So I'm guessing anywhere between 20 and 2000 feet off the water.

2007-06-09 11:10:22 PM
That bridge looks OK to jump.

/I might wait until about late August though. Yikes.

Paint requires money. And in spite of our record high taxes, maine is very short of money.

Pffft! I've jumped off higher:

Cliff-divers do that height all the time. Plus some. Of course they don't belly flop. And they aren't drunk. And they aren't 52.

/Wish I had a name like Vance Tripp and lived in Bangor.

yes all pictures so far of bridges in this thread, are in fact the bridge in question. Notice the streetlights common to the two pictures.

When I'm sick of it all I'm jumping too. Cool pics of that French bridge a few back by the way. It's awesome isn't it? I would fly a while from that one! Yeee Haaa!! (splat) fine

I saw some jump off one of these buildings into about ten feet of water. This is at Ontario Place in Toronto. It's gotta be 90-100 feet. He seemed ok when they fished him out.

Those aren't streetlights...

2007-06-09 11:27:41 PM
I think the question on everyone's mind, Gungfu, is how many nuts did you kick in order to jump off?

2007-06-09 11:31:37 PM
Goes like:

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh ... ah, fer chrissake ... ahhhhhhhhhhhh

Blaen: I think the question on everyone's mind, Gungfu, is how many nuts did you kick in order to jump off?

There's a reason you're not a famous comedian.

Have a guess.

I was hoping it was the Piscataqua. You'd have to be really drunk to take a dive off that.

your right karmic

Those are the same bridges with different angles on the same ufos suspiciously flying above them.

Darwin said to deeply dissapointed over losing this one

2007-06-09 11:47:45 PM
The highest thing I ever jumped off of was a rock maybe fifty feet out of the water. It didn't look very high when I decided to jump, probably because rocks have no scale. Only when I'd already hiked to the top did I realize that the boat far below looked like a toy, and my friends were very small.

oopsie...hehe...what now?

I thought about it for a minute, then leaped. The most amazing thing happened. *Nothing*. There was no motion.

Normally, when I jump it's a jump-land sequence. Up and back down in about a second or so. This was jump and hangtime. The water was far enough away that it didn't look like I was getting any closer for a moment there, and for all I knew I had become stuck in mid air. What a strange feeling.

Then the wind began to roar in my ears, the water rose up to meet me, and BAM!! I was underwater, swimming to the top through a lot of bubbles.

My friends drove the boat over and were like "OMFG dude we didn't think you were really going to do it."

/good times, good times

I jumped out of the MetLife blimp once.
Me and some friends were horsing around in the gondola and then the pilot walked over and said, "C'mon you guys, get out of here", and we all jumped out and ran off.

2007-06-09 11:59:34 PM
I live about an hour north of Bangor........ I'm willing to bet that water is really chilly right now! And I never felt that the water there looked deep enough for me to jump...... but then I've never been that drunk or that old!

2007-06-09 11:59:43 PM
That's hot.

Travis Bickle,
I was at Ontario Place on vacation as a kid, maybe 1980. It had a cool water park and the pyramid building with weird little sculptures/things in it. Has it changed any?

Jumpers may be drunker then they appear.

That bridge just doesn't really look that high. Maybe its just the pictures.

Just sayin

GungFu: Pffft! I've jumped off higher:

Where's that? It looks like the one in Hong Kong that takes you to the new airport, but a whole lot higher.
