Treptow says the man was in street clothes and never identified himself as a police officer. With his wife in the passenger seat, Treptow fired three shots at the officer, hitting him in both legs and grazing his arm.

sounds like Mr. Police officer learned an important life lesson.

So, when will the cop face charges, eh?

Assault w/ a deadly weapon? At least a disciplinary hearing? Is he still on the job, or has he been placed on leave?

I've got money saying it won't happen...

Why the scary tag? This guy is a hero, cops like this guy are douchebags who give every decent officer of the law a bad name.

2007-06-09 03:41:10 PM
How much you want to bet Treptow has a hard time renewing his ccw permit?

2007-06-09 03:46:43 PM
Three shots, one to both legs and another to the weapon arm? That's some mighty good shooting, there, boy.

www.lordargent.com

You're a loaded gun
There's nowhere to run
No one can save me
The damage is done

Shot through the heart
And youre to blame
You give law a bad name
I play my part and you play your game
You give law a bad name
You give law a bad name

So he was forced to join a well-regulated militia?

/Didn't RTFA.

What every arrogant power-tripping asshole pig thinks, "I'm a cop, I am the law and I have a gun - I can do whatever the fark I want and get away with it."

I have to agree; one in each leg and one in the arm from inside a vehicle in a panic situation is mighty fine shooting, there boy.

2007-06-09 05:18:53 PM
Of course, he was aiming for center body mass each time, but whatever...

I'd call anyone who can shoot a cop in each leg, then once in the arm holding the gun, "Sir."

2007-06-09 05:19:34 PM
If he didn't ID himself as a police officer, well.... enjoy being shot at by someone thinking you're just a random idiot.

2007-06-09 05:19:51 PM
Subby should've at least had the decency to use the dumbass tag

2007-06-09 05:20:35 PM
that cop is supposedly trained to maintain calm. he did not perform well, and sadly, got what he deserved. any man who points a gun at a woman and children in that situation, deserves what he gets. Be it lead or a good swift boot to the head.

here in orlando, when the temps get above 80, people act like their brains are fried. tons of violence happens, and i have even seen cops start problems that they need not.

Oh yeah, this story is going on the wall at work, so that when people ask why I carry a handgun I can just point at it! Asshats like this cop should be removed from the general populus before he has a chance to harm someone...

2007-06-09 05:23:06 PM
Oh yeah, also I vote for dumbass tag.

2007-06-09 05:23:33 PM
It's becoming more rare to not see an article about a cop going outside of his/her duties and/or being a general asshat than it is to see one daily.

Seriously, something needs to be done.

And props to this guy for defending his family.

The Anoka County attorney's office says Treptow was released after Thursday's incident in Coon Rapids , but the investigation was ongoing

Coon Rapids? it's like... deja vu or something?

This should get the sad tag because the cop didn't die.

Treptow fired three shots at the officer, hitting him in both legs and grazing his arm.

That's a DAMN TALL cop to be hit in the legs 3 feet from an SUV window when the shooter is firing ACROSS the occupied passanger seat.

I suppose the cop is lucky the guy didn't crank the wheel left and floor it in reverse.

2007-06-09 05:25:47 PM
27 year old cop. Ah, the new generation of police officer.

The departments are so hard up for new recruits that they have relaxed the stardards and let just about anyone get hired. My son works as a background investigator of applicants for a large metropolitan police department. The stories he tells me about the candidates are frightening. Most of them pass the process and get hired when they have no business being in law enforcement.

2007-06-09 05:26:12 PM
Oh, and thank god we have UNDERCOVER cops who have such a calm demeanor that they feel the need to pull their weapon when they get pissed.

2007-06-09 05:26:25 PM
Interesting, but not surprising that the cop says that Treptow pulled the gun first... but, the officer blocked Treptow and his family, even letting a "road rage" incident get that far, and given the fact that police won't charge Treptow in the shooting, pretty much indicates that the cop was WELL, WELL, into the wrong end of things here.

He should lose his job, and face serious charges, including the abuse of authority.

This cop gives all other cops a bad name. Just because you are an "undercover" cop doesn't give you a license to re-enact "Training Day"

2007-06-09 05:26:26 PM
If more people were willing to defend themselves against no-knock raids and police initiated violence, we'd have a lot more freedom and a lot fewer police.

2007-06-09 05:26:26 PM
farking second ring suburbs, full of "America, FARK YEAH! Rumsfeld, woooo!" parroting morons who think they need to pack heat because it's rough out there... I'm sure that the shooter "didn't do a single thing" that lead to the mutual road rage.

And what sort of officer takes out their weapon without identifying themselves as police? Both of these people are nuts.

Ten bucks says this brings up the conceal/carry argument again here in MN...

2007-06-09 05:26:31 PM
Just to play devil's advocate here... Didn't the news crew say that the police officer claimed that Treptow got his gun out first? Secondly, why couldn't Treptow have just driven away without any further incident?

2007-06-09 05:26:39 PM
This is the exact kind of story that I wish the international community would see. With things like the VT shootings, foreigners always point to the 2nd Amendment as supporting gun-wielding crazy people. This is a perfect example of the 2nd Amendment in action. A private citizen using his constitutional right to protect himself and his family from a threat. A governmental threat, no less.

And this is why we read stories like this close to daily. Sad, Scary and Sick tag run for cover.

Guy deserves a hero tag not just for defending his family - but for only disabling the asshat. There are plenty who would have gone for the chest, not the legs/arms.

I agree completely, this story is a thing of beauty. Perfect example of the 2nd amendment protecting citizens from oppression.

That's a real fast way of getting yourself shot.

Or third, why didn't the officer just pull out his badge and say he's a cop? The shooter would've probably crapped himself when he realized he just drew on a cop and was going to lose his permit.

As I stated just a moment ago, the police released Treptow, which indicates that they had plenty of evidence to clear him - it sounds like the undercover cop got pissed because Treptow reacted to something the cop did (like tailgating, which cops often do) and decided to "teach the punk a lesson" - he obviously blocked Treptow in.

If the cops had an inkling Treptow was not entirely innocent, he'd still be in jail, with charges pending a prosecutor's review. That it didn't get that far says a LOT.

2007-06-09 05:31:46 PM
The cop was likely banking on this guy trying to ram him to protect his family. Then BLAM BLAM, he's the heroic officer defending himself from a crazy person. Oops, this one had a gun, asshole.

This needs to happen more often. Police in this country need to be culled a bit.

2007-06-09 05:32:17 PM
If our "hero" had time to pull a gun on a cop who was already weilding a gun and managed to get 3 shots off first, then the gun was sat in his greasy fat palm in his greasy fat lap.

Ooh, in which case, fatboy drew first, just that the cop didn't see...

/don't you cowboys have rules about that?

EvilBobRoss: Umm while we don't need asshole cops like these, you do realize we need police?

We need police to investigate crimes that have already taken place. We need citizens to be trained, armed, and capable of defending themselves.

Is this the thread where we extrapolate the actions of an individual person over many tens of thousands of others while reminding ourselves of what tough, beefy men we are by tossing around pork-related epithets?

/ farkers, about twice as intelligent as diggers, who are about a quarter as intelligent as the regular population
