In hotmail, accept only mail from those in your address book. Works for me. Hardly ever get junk.

Have junk mail deleted immediately. I only get junk mail in my inbox that the spammers have as coming from myself. Trikky farkers, but not a big problem.

Spam is evil. And I'm spent.

2002-08-30 12:54:53 AM
And if you use hotmail, its more like 99.9%

2002-08-30 12:55:08 AM
For me, it's more like 80-90%. That's what I get for having the same email address for 7 years.

Of all the farkers not to be wielding their lawyers, I wish those farkers at Hormel would sue the ass of each and every spammer for trademark infringement.

I'm with Dmeat. Hotmail is my spam mail service. Yahoo actually does filter out spam. I have over 30 words that trigger delivery to the trash can in Hotmail, and I still get 50 e-mails a day from the mortgage, weight loss, and penis enhancement industries. Hey, do those things really work ?

Has anyone visited the Spam museum. It is worth a trip, if you live within 20 miles of Austin, MN

An e-mail addy I had used for awhile, and wanted to dump, was completely spam free...until I decided to try a little test by including my e-mail in my CS server with the heading "PLEASE SUBSCRIBE ME TO PORN". Last time i checked theres 300 e-mails in there...filled with puuuure spam.

The Lesson Is: Only a dumbass gets spam.

And people don't think that I'm serious when I advocate the death penalty for spamming. I'm dead serious. All spammers should be publically tortured to death.

2002-08-30 01:43:26 AM
I get closer to 99.9% spam per day.

2002-08-30 01:45:10 AM
Someone, somewhere must respond to this spam e-mail. Who the fark is it?

2002-08-30 02:08:02 AM
I was recently offered a job by a pr0n company to write a spam worm for collecting email addresses for them to 'market'... I needed the money but told em to go fark themselves cause i hate spam!

2002-08-30 02:14:53 AM
if you never ever give out your email to anyone but friends, youll prolly never get spam. its just common sense.

2002-08-30 03:25:07 AM
I know that some e-mail programs (specially under Linux) have the possibility to bounce e-mail. I think this should be a standard option in all e-mail programs, so we could flood spammers with bounced e-mails. That would quickly put a stop to it, since providers don't like that.

2002-08-30 03:45:02 AM
Reminds me of the "Weird Al" Yankovic song called Spam.

You all know it. Spam in the place where I live (ham and pork), Think about nutrituon, see whats inside it. Spam.

2002-08-30 03:45:24 AM
Yeah open a hotmail account, never send anything, and never give the address to anyone. Check it every few weeks, watch what happens... sooner or later you'll get spam.. maybe not much but you'll get it. Yahoo is a little better I will admit but at this point I'm on my own pop server and I like it just fine.

2002-08-30 03:53:26 AM
Spammin' a spammer just validates your email addy is ripe for pikkin', ergo, you get more spam.

NEVER reply to a, "clikk here to remove me from your list."
Unless of course, you are lonely, you post to BB's cuz you don't havva life and like useless junk in you email box.

2002-08-30 04:38:36 AM
Farkqueue2,
Spammin' a spammer just validates your email addy is ripe for pikkin', ergo, you get more spam.
That is the nice thing about bouncing spam, it tells the spammer that the e-mail address doesn't exist.

Darcius - Thank you! Hope ya keep using your powers for the forces of good and light.

2002-08-30 05:35:22 AM
lol thanks Scrotar... and Appie, spammers rarely use real email addies, hence your either bouncing them into the depths of the internet void or your sending them to some hapless yahoo user. Spammers often bounce the email of several countries before it gets to you to avoid tracking them and they are very good at it... i still hate em though.

2002-08-30 06:48:47 AM
36? They must have meant 96%, right?

2002-08-30 06:49:58 AM
My hotmail account is 100% spam ...
NO i don't want a bigger penis.
NO i don't need any 7-Day trial prescription for acid reflux.
I don't want to turn back my biological clock either.
AND YOU CAN EAT YOUR LOUSY DIPLOMAS AND CHOKE TO DEATH ON THEM !
God, i hate spam ...

The fact is, if you want to kill Spam, put a small postage on all e-mails: Two cents.

For regular users, they'll send out 100 e-mails.. two dollars is nothing -- that can be covered in their ISP costs. For spammers, who will sent out 50,000 per campaign (or more), that's $1000 a pop, which eventually will add up for them and make their efforts a whole hell of a lot less cost-effective.

Consider that they probably send out a million or so a month: $20000. That's significant ad budget.

Spammers simply don't have the political pull to stop something like this, and if something is intra-network, they don't have to charge... like, if I wanted to send mail to another MSU student, it's free, but if I wanted to send to someone on a hotmail account, it costs money.

There's ways to work around spammers.. charge them. They deserve it.

2002-08-30 07:53:04 AM
Better, make bulk rate e-mails MORE expensive than regular e-mails..

That's the opposite of regular mail, but that's the point.. we want to kill off spam, and this would be just about the most efficient way.

2002-08-30 08:08:18 AM
Spam the spammers: you know it makes sense.

:o)

2002-08-30 08:13:47 AM
There should be a fux0ring law against spam.

Some of us pay to host our own sites and have to pay for e-mail bandwidth (lumped in with the other bandwidth). I get anywhere from 75 - 150 megs of spam a month. It's at the point where if I don't check my mail at least once every 3 days, my disk quota exceeds and all my mail goes down, and I get charged a few extra bucks.

Anyone else in this predicament? Care to join me in a CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT?

*sigh* i know, it will never work :(

I hate spam. Some dildo shiat-eating farkhead virus-bombed me. And since I have Eudora, it's nearly impossible to avoid.

Postage for email and bouncing back Spam will not work. Most of the Spam goes through misconfigured mail servers (a lot of them in Asian countries) that leave relaying open. Spammers jump on that and send 1000s of messages out using someone else's box. I'm running some software called NEMX to bounce mail coming to our Exchange server from open relays and its been pretty effective.

Here are some links about open relays:

A couple months ago my email.com account was so choked up with spam (I hadn't checked my email.com e-mail in weeks, months), I just walked away from it. I didn't really have any real people e-mail me on that account; the only e-mail I actually read was a Stephen King mailing list, and even then, only very occasionally. So I just let my email.com account entrophize into chaos. Now I use only my UMR account, which is good, since very little spam gets into UMR. The lesson: It's always handy to be affiliated with a university. Plus, you get free dial-up access too.

Yeah, I'd say my spam level is about 50-65% of incoming. Higher if you count the crap my filter catches before it hits my inbox. Although generally opposed to death penalty, I would consider an exception for all of the twits pushing penis pills and Nigerian money scams...

Spamcop rocks! $30/year for filtered mail, I get 1 to 2 e-mails a week that it doesn't pick up, I end up reporting it and I never see it again. I highly recommend it.

2002-08-30 04:07:09 PM
Hoesntly right now I get about the ratio of actual messages to spam is like 1 in 50 with hotmail.

I ate spam once. Then I learned from my mistakes.
