I think most people do both understand and acknowledge it. At the same time, there are certain stereotypes that old people fall into that tend to irk the rest of the under-60 crowd. For example: Driving in the left lane, driving slowly, driving at all, and biatching non-stop about just about everything. We'd all like to think we won't act like that when we reach that point, but we probably will.

Yotta was the first one here who actually has a clue. The rest of you all fail reading comprehension. The old people were Americans protesting the amnesty bill for illegal aliens and the guy waving the sign was most likely an illegal alien.

We inherited a condo just outside Clearwater, and the first time we went there, no one had been there for about twenty years and it was filthy. So the first night, we got there really late, and we saw that some idiot (my grandpa) had had it recarpeted the week before and piled a bunch of lamps and furniture in the bathtub, thoughtfully leaving them there for us. We just gave up and went to bed.

We spent the entire next day clearing all the crap out, scrubbing mold off the tile, and waiting for the AC repairman to get there. That night, we found a sign that said "Please clean your windows, some of us have to live here all year" taped to the door.

So my cousin and I, who were ten at the time, made a sign that said "If you don't like our windows, please visit our website, getafreakinglife.com!" Being ten, of course, we thought it was hysterical.

And the best part was that all the old people on the floor thought it was great except for one, who was obviously the one who was biatching about it. We made a lot of elderly friends that week.

And they suck even better when they remove their teeth.

Although I must admit I can sympathize a bit, to a degree, with how the person who made that sign feels. At the McDonald's I work at, we're about a block away from a retirement community, so a good percentage of our customers are senior citizens. While most of them are nice, there are a few I simply cannot stand. I'm talking about the ones who come through drive-thru (yes, through drive-thru!) and not only take forever to order (one person once took over 200 seconds), but shout as loud as they possibly can because they like to be able to hear themselves talk, apparently. I can understand having trouble hearing, but is it really necessary to shout as loud? I swear, I think I'm going to be deaf before I'm 25 years old, as a result.

How did a sign saying "Old people suck" make them feel unsafe? If they felt unsafe due to that, then they really do suck.

I worked on an interior build-out in an office building right next door to this building (The Vue) mentioned in the article.

When The Vue was in the early stages of foundation work (specifically digging footers, laying rebar and pouring the cement) the regular workers would knock off at about 3:30 in the afternoon. EVERY day, at about 4:15, a couple of white cargo vans would pull into the lot and discharge a couple of dozen Hispanic workers. These guys were not wearing hard hats (on a posted hard hat site) and they went right to work scurrying around as the cement trucks lined up to do the pour.

The receptionist for the law firm office I was working on in an adjacent highrise, saw me watching the activities across the street and said, "Oh, are the illegal aliens late today ? They usually come in around 4:15 so they won't be seen by the ICE agents. The ICE guys only visit during regular hours"

That is why the workers were holding up signs that said "Old People Suck" - the old people were attending an anti-illegal immigration rally and that jobsite was staffed - at least in part - by illegal workers. I was an eyewitness to it.

I completely forgot that every single person over the age of 65 fought in a war at some point in their lives. That over-generalization is one of the things that creates these kinds of situations in the first place. Are all old people entitled to something because some of them fought in wars?
