(Some SOCAS Guy)   Christians hopping mad that the "backpack mail" system they sued the school system to create so they could distribute their religious flyers is now being used by other religions. Suck it fundies   (blog.au.org) divider line 113

"Although these religious conservatives demand people listen to them, they appear unwilling to listen to others."

Now if they only were able to understand this statement.

Welcome to Rasta weekend camp!

Seems like a person could have a LOT of fun with that backpack mail system...

I'm pretty sure an entire thread full of Farkers predicted this when the original story was linked.

AWESOME

If I recall, we all predicted this would happen when the original article came up a few months back.

/"We Told you so" is such a lovely phrase.

I also like how the WND article barely mentions the fact that this right was demanded by Christians... It's only kinda sorta implied in the last two sentences of their long article.

Golden rule. Whenever creating weapons or devices always imagine what your worst enemy having it would be like.

Design appropriately.

Double standards are a biatch, huh?

This should be a pretty clear indicator of what the religious right would have in store if they were able to inject religion into public schools. Every high school has PLENTY of kids that would love to jump on the pagan bandwagon just to piss them off.

Now that they have opened the forum, they can't close it to perspectives they don't like. Although these religious conservatives demand people listen to them, they appear unwilling to listen to others.

Clearly they didn't think their cunning plan all the way through.

What distinguishes the American model from the European model religious matters in the school system is this: American has generally been open to all expression, while Europe prohibits any. For example, you can wear a Star of David, crucifix, veil, or pentagram when attending public school in the US. France (and I think England now) says no one can. Different approach to the same issue.

But these nuts who fought to get their way -- and it was only for "their" way -- got what they wanted. Now they dislike that others have adopted their technique. And it's those people that will drive us to closer to the European model. Don't want to play nice? Fine, we'll take the privilege away from everyone. Truly sad.

/personally, I think it's a good system no matter who uses it.

"Then don't be suprised when an athiest, or a muslim, or a unitarian puts a little message in Johnny's backpack to take home"

I remember putting that in some thread on this discussion.

This Christian persecution complex has to stop. We have been surrounded by christian ideals for centuries. When can we just stop all this and try to TEACH instead of PREACH in our public schools? I do not want our kids brainwashed more than they already are.

If you teach your child one thing, let it be critical thinking. That will help them learn more than any book will theach.

Why haven't we seen anyone in here saying how the churchies using it is ok but everyone else not ok? Christian nation or something?

/I know it would be futile for them to make a convincing point.
//But that hasn't seemed to stop them before.

Why shouldn't the teachers involved in pushing out someone else's magical beliefs be penalized?

flaEsq: Why shouldn't the teachers involved in pushing out someone else's magical beliefs be penalized?

Because the courts said that they had to do so.

Here BackAssward, Let me give it a shot.

The Christians are using it to save your immortal soul and get you a ticket into everlasting peace and love. The others are using it to spread lies and send people to hell. See? One is helping the world and the other is hurting it. How hard is that to understand?

Running a-puck: Because the courts said that they had to do so.

The courts ordered the teachers to filter the Unitarian announcement? I missed that in TFA

2007-06-08 06:02:24 PM

An anonymous spokesman for the rebelling teachers told World Net Daily some teachers refused to hand out the Camp Quest flyer because they were "disgusted" and were concerned parents would think the school was endorsing the camp. Even though there is a disclaimer distancing the school from all extra-curricular information sent home, "it's still coming from me and my classroom," he said.

And

If public schools allow private groups to use "backpack mail," they must prohibit teachers from deciding which messages are and are not worthy.

This is the section that worries me the most. Likely there will be a call for allowing teachers to decide whether or not to send anything home. Then a call from the other side asking for rules so that teachers can't restrict legitimate messages on personal bias. The rules will be written one of two ways. It will either be written in a 'spongy' way for easy alternative interpretation or there will be a list of words the flyer cannot contain.

Either way this turns out, I'm certain to get a lot of entertainment from it!

Attention Self-rightetous Christina types: That would be YOUR petard you're currently being hoisted by, mate and the rest of us find it deliciously hysterical.

The shoe now having been on the other foot, and you having gotten a taste of what NON-christians must feel when they recieve YOUR backpack mail, what say you and we agree to go back to status quo ante- and keep this out the public schools altogether, savvy?

And the great part about stuff like this?
No one cares but asshole farkers (and other forum-goers), The Daily Show, The Colbert Report, and Keith Olbermann (which are probably all asshole farkers!).
There will be no significant news coverage.
There will be no significant national awareness or dialog.
It's a perfect example of self-important theocratic elitists (aka: the christian right) doing what they do best: being stupid self-important theocratic elitists.
But it doesn't matter because they're not going to grow the hell up, and no one else is going to hold them accountable.
Same old, same old, status quo, farking stagnation.

Well at least it's fun to laugh at the christian right.

\where's the 'stop persecuting us' pie chart?
\\where the hell is the pac-man pie chart!?
