The defacement, described as "the funniest hack ever" on a forum site...

Or was it "Funniest. Hack. Ever."?
Glad to see they referred to Fark as a forum site as opposed to a blog.

"In addition, an RIAA-commissioned study indicated that increased music downloading from the Internet corresponds to reduced CD purchases."

My GOD! Really? An RIAA-funded study found that??

In other news:

A vampire-commissioned study determined that blood tastes yummy.

A Bush Administration-commisioned study determined that criticizing them is unpossible.

A hacker-commissioned study determined that Micro$oft is teh suX0r, and that we should phE4r their m4d 5k1llZ.

Zen says Bah.

The editor probably took out the periods.

2002-08-29 11:16:54 PM
Yeah, stick it to the man!

2002-08-29 11:17:29 PM
"Yeah! Stick it to the man!"

Why, oh why did they choose to quote that?

2002-08-29 11:17:55 PM
Oh great, more attention to Fark is exactly what Fark needs right now with crippled servers.

See the irony? Fark getting Farked by Fark.

2002-08-29 11:19:20 PM
Music CD sales declined 7 percent in the first half of this year, costing the industry more than US$280 million, the RIAA said this week.

dont blame it on the fact that music today BLOWS SHEEP!

2002-08-29 11:19:31 PM
lol Zenmaster

well I just downloaded all of physical graffiti in mp3s last week after the lp just died.

now today i went out and bought 'physical graffiti' on cd.

as long as the music is good, people will still buy it.

I see the irony.. the irony of it all.. We're all doomed.. DOOMED i tell you! Soylent Green is people!!!!!!

2002-08-29 11:21:23 PM
GreenPlastic

'you gotta tell em. you gotta let the exchange know. SOYLENT GREEN IS PEOPLE!'

ah charleton heston and the 70s, good times!

i still download my movies though, haha! DIE MPAA!

2002-08-29 11:21:56 PM
I had Soylent Green for Lunch. no wait that was McDonalds.

I would put forth a suggestion - if you are ever, at any time, in any way, on any person, in the mood to hack. riaa.com is your target.

2002-08-29 11:22:08 PM
heh...Silly RIAA.

2002-08-29 11:22:19 PM
I love how none of the news sites really get it, or else they aren't allowed to tell the truth, for fear of pissing off their corporate masters. That's the real reason why Fark gets all this publicity, because people say what they want.

Anyways, rock on Fark, and screw the RIAA. They need a better system administrator, their server is still not back online, yet my mirror has 3.5 million hits. I mean, running it on a 286 saves costs for them, I'm sure, and lord knows Hillary Rosen needs all the pennies they can spare, but you gotta draw the line somewhere. ;P

2002-08-29 11:22:51 PM
Jakyll Soylent McGreen?

2002-08-29 11:23:21 PM
please post the mirror link!

2002-08-29 11:23:23 PM
Did they ever think that people are not buying cd's because they cost $18 bucks a pop?

2002-08-29 11:23:48 PM
As the only person in that whole damn thread with a slightly opposing viewpoint, I am shocked that none of these rags mentioned my name. I mean, if you can't get a little fame by being a devil's advocate, what's the point?

Jakyll Soylent McGreen?

Thats right. LOL

2002-08-29 11:24:16 PM
Fark also mentioned on itworld.com

2002-08-29 11:25:38 PM
Saucydwarf: Ahh! you beat me to it!
That was going to be my comment!
"dont blame declining CD sales on online trading, blame it on the CRAP that's released these days!"

2002-08-29 11:25:55 PM
Bad! Bad Farkers! Stop all of that pirating right this instant!

2002-08-29 11:26:34 PM

Yeah! Stick it to the man!

Kazaa, gnutella - sure these all contribute, but no peer-to-peer network has the sheer volume and number of songs that Napster did at its peak usage (mid-late 2000).

So, um...now that Napster's been closed down for quite a while...how can the RIAA blame file sharing on a continuing decline in sales?

FUNNIEST - HACK - EVER!

2002-08-29 11:27:28 PM
You know, it's not surprising they're all mentioning FARK. After all, once one news source cites us, all the others have to too, or they look incomplete. You can be sure they read each others' work.

2002-08-29 11:27:28 PM
I bought my first cd in 1989, cost me 18 bucks. I just bought a cd last week, cost me 18 bucks. I would be willing to pay an extra 5 bucks a month to download all the songs I want and the money can be distributed however it needs to be. And the record industry is full of crap about how it hurts the artists since most of those guys only get about a nickel per cd sold and have to make the cash on tour. which explains why fans get gouged for tickets to shows.

SCREW THE RIAA!

2002-08-29 11:27:36 PM
Check out the other stories on Rtreynor's link - The RIAA dropped their suit against Listen4ever.com, the site the hackers mentioned, after they got hacked. Kick ass!

2002-08-29 11:28:39 PM
Maybe no one cares about godamn CD's, and people should go back to making music because they want to.

Can anyone honestly say that if Britney Spears, N Sync, U2 didnt make a quadbillion farkin dollars that music would STOP?

The only thing that might is music videos with rappers trying to be gangsters and at the same time rollin around in their jaguar.

2002-08-29 11:29:00 PM
Naughty, naughty farkers!

No online rights for you before bed.

2002-08-29 11:29:36 PM
What's that?

Fark 0wnz j00?

All the people that frequent Fark 0wn j00?

Yes. Yes we do.

2002-08-29 11:30:30 PM
Remember when they introduced cd's? They said once they became popular, the prices would come down. Here it is, 15 years later and cd prices are at their highest point ever. Maybe THAT'S the reason for all the P2P sharing going on. The record lables are trying to rip us off. NO, that couldn't be it. What was I thinking.

2002-08-29 11:30:37 PM
Wildetequila: I get my cds for less than a buck ;)

2002-08-29 11:32:01 PM
Anyone else see the irony of news sites ripping each others intellectual property off while reporting about ripping intellectual property off?

2002-08-29 11:32:24 PM
ATTACK!. I love this shiat.. we are going to have so many post about the RIAA

2002-08-29 11:33:04 PM
While we are at it, I think the MPAA needs a good spankin as well.

2002-08-29 11:33:32 PM
woooooooooo fark! yeah! wooooooooo! w00t!

2002-08-29 11:33:46 PM

"In addition, an RIAA-commissioned study indicated that increased music downloading from the Internet corresponds to reduced CD purchases."

This reminds of something in Dilbert about management attributing profits in a good economy to themselves and attributing losses in a bad economy to the economy.

What the FARK do giant monkeys have to do with RIAA???

2002-08-29 11:44:21 PM

Does anyone else sense that sooner or later on a slow news week, Fark.com is going to "break through" into the mainstream and be featured on CNN and etc?

2002-08-29 11:47:18 PM
yeah FotH, and I fear that day. It'll be good for the rest of the world to hear about the joy that is FARK.COM, but bad for us.

2002-08-29 11:49:36 PM
mainstream? Fark features the news before CNN...minus the sick Connie Chung element. It's head and shoulders above mainstream!

2002-08-29 11:50:50 PM
MPAA needs a Smack down! DOS!. :)

2002-08-29 11:50:59 PM
Fark: - We've got the same news at CNN, but with more BOOBIES.

2002-08-29 11:51:38 PM
Sometimes I think smaller market reporters use fark to find all their stories. I have no evidence to back that up. It's just a feeling I get sometimes.

2002-08-29 11:52:04 PM

2002-08-29 11:52:31 PM
