I mean no disrespect to all of you professing your virginity, but...Sexual repression is dangerous.

Yeah, and sexual exploration is totally safe...just ask the millions of millions of sexually active preteens, teen, and adults who are walking around with all sorts of STD's!

ohhh wait..

my_word_is_poontang: I've never understood why people get so "ZOMG teh catholickz!". The days of non-believers being forced to join are long over. It's a club, there are rules. Don't want to follow the rules? No biggie. But why get your panties in a bunch over a club having rules? Especially people who aren't even members - that make no sense to me at all.

Because they use their power to try to pressure politicians -- in NY, the big news was how the Pope wanted to ex-communicate [or just keep from getting communion?] Giuliani because he would not say he would try to ban abortion if he ran for president -- hence, they try to push their beliefs on the rest of us.

I, too, was [unfortunately] raised Catholic, and while I am happy to walk away and leave others to believe that if they somehow can find logic in it... I am not happy to have them pressuring politicians to make laws that have nothing to do with ANYTHING BUT their faith, thereby forcing the rest of us to live under their doctrine.

The church's idea that you should wait until marriage is bullshiat. In fact, I will rationalize away anything that asks me not to do the things that I want to do as bullshiat.

Hmmm...assuming you're a "wait 'til marriage type", I'd say I definitely feel cooler than you, since I've banged more chicks. I've had threesomes, MILFs, teens, redheads, big boobs, REALLY big boobs. I did pretty much every depraved thing I could think of with as many women as possible. Whereas, following your philosophy, you'll be stuck with one person and their single bag of tricks, for the rest of your life.

Yeah, I feel way cooler than you.

Yeah, but....but....but....have you ever experienced the true love that only God and your only sexual partner can offer?

2007-06-07 03:06:25 PM
Just because something is a little unpleasant at times does not make it unrealistic, or even all that difficult. Plenty of people manage to wait, and they understand why it's worth it.

You wouldn't want to marry a woman you couldn't speak with, why take a chance on marrying a woman you couldn't make love to?

How does that work? Is she just all sealed up? Lost the key to the chastity belt? Psychologically incapable? Really, what do you mean by "a woman you couldn't make love to"?

Couples that cohabit before marriage ar 4 times more likely to divorce than the population at large.

This is because I would guess most of the population at large cohabits before marriage. The divorce rate is 50% anyways in the "population at large." I think that's a null statistic. Doesn't matter any which way whether or not you cohabitate (but it's a damn good idea).

/this is badly written

We were adults, no one forced us to wait, but we chose to wait because we wanted it to be special, our own sort of commitment ceremony I guess.

If its like my first time it was probably a pretty short ceremony.

If you decide to preach "no sex before marriage" in your house, that's great.

Just be warned, if you're successful, your horny daughter just might marry a total douchebag at age 20 just to get laid.

just my two cents, but...

I love how Catholicism always gets pointed out on things like this. it isn't a matter of religious denomination as much as a matter of religious devotion. a lot of the really devout religions believe premarital sex is a no-no. that and so many people complaining about the rules of something they don't believe anyway. if you don't want to do it, than don't do it. but don't act superior just because someone makes a choice that is different from yours.

/that being said, when did we start caring about what Gisele has to say anyway

I agree with her that no sex before marriage is stupid. However, just because everyone is breaking a rule doesn't mean the rule should be removed or that it is unjust. If Catholics don't like it, don't follow it. Whether or not they still get into heaven...they'll have to wait and see.

The Bible plainly states that pre-marital sex is a sin and you should wait until marriage. Whether or not you agree with that it doesn't matter.

The Catholic Church, however, is trying to enforce God's law and punish those who break it. That's not their job to do. Man is given free will and ultimately only answers to God.

smitton: but consider these statistics from the CDC. Couples that cohabit before marriage ar 4 times more likely to divorce than the population at large. AND couples in which both partners were virgins on their wedding day are the MOST stable couples in the nation and report higher satisfaction with their mates, marriage in general, and say they are happier both personally and professionally...and (albeit a bit strange, here) are statistically better off financially.....How "coool" do feel now?

Quite simply, you're confusing causality with correlation. The likely explanation for this is that subcultures that tolerate cohabitation before marriage also tolerate divorce.

Without getting too insulting, I will admit I went to a fark book signing the other day... met some really funny/cool people, owners of websites, etc... And then met the other end of the spectrum... At one point me and the guy next to me almost died laughing at the geek behind us who hit on every woman (good looking, young, old, ugly, fat, etc) that he loves blogs like fark, and he's even starting his own blog... YAY!

So, I think that, after seeing that, and just the appearance of this man, I think we have completely split demographics here on fark... and yes, I'm sure he's a virgin, and not married yet.

"Today no one is a virgin when they get married ... show me someone who's a virgin."

Right here. Married at 29, still a virgin. Go ahead, Gisele Bundchen, admit you were wrong. Come on, you can say it; you were wrong and now you have to change your little opinion.

2007-06-07 03:15:04 PM
Detroit_Bob I agree with you to a point. You can catch an STD from one instance of sex, and you can sleep around and never catch an STD. So frequency of sex doesn't necessarily mean anything to a degree. I think the fact that they are aggressively saying "don't use birth control or condoms" is so grossly negligent and just plain wrong given our times.

Regarding your comment re: Africa, my ex-boyfriend is African and I'm getting a kick out of your reply...:-)

Ok. No seriously...my ex is African, and although I'm not speaking about the country as a whole, the horrors that occur there are mind blowing. Using the fear of AIDS as an excuse to rape virgins doesn't even begin to scratch the surface. I think if AIDS wasn't the reason, they'd just use another excuse. The level of crimes against women there is just horrendous.

But I really wish all religions would just stop the madness and stop for a second and look around at the world we live in and try to adjust their message accordingly. You can use birth control and condoms and still be a faithful person of your chosen religion.
