I have served several sentences for civil rights and civil disobedience actions and I even fasted which caused health concerns to prison authorities who paid for a doctor to come see me daily rather than release me. This act smacks of the double standards that many of us raise

Yes Al, it definitely does.

2007-06-07 12:23:38 PM
Racial no, economic absolutely yes I agree. She should have been made to stay.

2007-06-07 12:39:00 PM
If you agreed with Al and Fred at the same time, would your head explode?

/dude, have you seen Scanners?

2007-06-07 01:04:37 PM
As a New Yorker, I've listened to Al for over 20 years. In that time, he has said many sensible things on important matters that few were discussing. Unfortunately for him, it's his flamboyant, sometimes racist, asshat statements that people remember. He's his own worse enemy.

/at least he's not wearing his sweat suit in public anymore

So what was her "health condition"? Was she so full of STD's they were afraid she'd cause a pandemic at the county lockup?

onecanshort So what was her "health condition"? Was she so full of STD's they were afraid she'd cause a pandemic at the county lockup?

Is anyone reporting on what the health condition was? I didn't see it in the article I read.

She's got Captain Trips.

2007-06-07 02:10:33 PM
She should have been made to stay and tough it out. Paris is nothing but a spoiled little rich girl who needs her a-double-s spanked and controlled by a man of moderate means who knows the real value of a dollar and what "normal" life entails.

/no, definitely not applying

2007-06-07 02:28:08 PM
Al hates Paris because she's a rich white woman. Which is the same reason Farkers hate her, except for the white woman part.

They'll deny that they are envious of her wealth, of course, but her money seems to be the one thing that comes up over and over. The rich-people haters get a free pass to vent today.

2007-06-07 02:59:11 PM
It's a very tidy package. There has to be some back room dealing going on here. I wonder how much it cost the Hiltons? What did they give that would encourage the prison and justice systems to bring this ridicule among themselves? Whatever the deal was, claim "health condition" and that's it. The Hilton camp isn't compelled to expand on her medical status, etc.

2007-06-07 03:01:40 PM
Skwidd: I think you're overstating it a bit. Spoiled is not what you have. Spoiled is how you behave based on what you have. Paris brings this hate upon herself. Every day should give us a free pass to revile her.

Diogenes: Spoiled is not what you have. Spoiled is how you behave based on what you have.

This is an awesome definition of spoiled. I wish I had this about five days ago when I was in a fight with my GF.

I don't think people hate her for getting an early release into her 5-star resort like home, they are pissed at the system for doing it. Obviously almost everyone in jail tries to get out ASAP and nobody can blame someone for trying to get out...

2007-06-07 03:46:08 PM
If there's one topic on which Al Sharpton is an expert - it's hypocrisy.

That aside, Al has a point - rich people (regardless of skin color) get better treatment from the justice system. If this had been you or me, we'd be hanging 10 in general population for the full ride.

onecanshort: So what was her "health condition"?

tmz says this about it: Paris' Medical Condition -- Mental, Not Physical
Law enforcement sources tell TMZ Paris Hilton's medical condition was purely psychological and that she was in peril of having a nervous breakdown, and that's why she was released early this morning.

I never would have guessed that Al Sharpton would make this about race!

/Sharpton is a racist.

2007-06-07 04:15:27 PM
Supposedly she refused to eat prison food.

That better not be true. If it is, then why do we even bother with a 'justice' system?

2007-06-07 04:16:47 PM
FTFA: this early release gives all of the appearances of economic and racial favoritism that is constantly cited by poor people and people of color

He's still a douchebag. It's not about race, it's about $$$$.

I have a feeling that this is really going to blow up in their faces. The moral of the story is if you commit a crime in LA be sure you are some sort of celebrity - any kind of celebrity. Even Carrot Top can beat the rap in LA.

Lots of people have nervous breakdowns in jail. That's kind of the point...to learn a lesson and to never want to go back.

2007-06-07 04:26:38 PM
"That better not be true. If it is, then why do we even bother with a 'justice' system?"

I'm sure it's true.

You can now get out of jail if you say being there is making you nervous. Provided you're filthy farking rich that is.

I guess we're kind of making progress though. OJ didn't even do a day in jail.

2007-06-07 04:27:06 PM
Why?

Did you really believe that a scumbag is someone whom you must disagree with 100% of the time?

That's very naive.

2007-06-07 04:28:58 PM
Sure Al...it's not a double standard when you do it...

Skwidd

No, we hate dumbasses. And there is nothing worse in the world than a rich dumbass, because then it gets spread around.

I actually, for some reason, know a handfull of people who are fantastically and phenomenally wealthy. And they are the nicest, most compassionate people I know. Probably because someone, at some point, kicked their ass to the point that they know that money isn't good for much except being obnoxious.

I hate Paris Hilton because she's a stupid rich person.

And I hate Paris Hilton because there are people out there who believe all wealthy people deserve it, because they worked hard for it, including Paris. She's a role model for the really, really, really hardline free market people. And that scares the shiat out of me.

2007-06-07 04:32:25 PM
I hate Paris Hilton, but I hate Al Sharpton too...so I'm really confused right now.

2007-06-07 04:38:27 PM
I'm sure if you look at all of the people who served
How is this favoritism? Seriously, how many of you have any clue about the criminal justice system?

I've had poor black friends get busted with pot while on PAROLE (for a felony) and they went before a judge that simply said, don't violate your parole again. That's it. It happens all the farking time.

Someone getting released early on a probation violation is not abnormal, unusual or out of any sort of norm.

2007-06-07 04:39:59 PM
R. Kelly, anyone, especially Rev. Al?

arollo: I hate Paris Hilton because she's a stupid rich person.

She
isn't actually rich, she's a trust fund baby. All the money she has came from daddy.

I'd say most Farkers don't hate rich people, just those who've never had to work a single minute in their pathetic little lives and yet have more money than God and use it to benefit ONLY themselves.

Dude O Matic 5000: I've had poor black friends get busted with pot while on PAROLE (for a felony) and they went before a judge that simply said, don't violate your parole again. That's it. It happens all the farking time.

Hey, do you live in that neighborhood that was in those commercials when I was a kid? You know, the one where the little boy is chased home by 5 drug dealers all offering him free drugs?

2007-06-07 04:53:31 PM
Al, take out the "racial" component, add in it's place substitute "elitist class" and we'll be on the same page.

Also, don't mince words now... there's no "this smacks of" going on here. Releasing Paris after a fraction of her sentance is a piece of crap, and we all know it. Oh, and allowing her to skirt two of the days on top of that with bullshiat technicalities is just adding insult to injury.

The message from our justice system was clear in this case: she is rich and famous so an entirely different set of rules apply to her.

2007-06-07 04:54:59 PM
I wish someone would lynch both of 'em.

2007-06-07 04:56:39 PM
Actually, spleef420, Paris has lots of her own money. She has been modelling for a long time, and for a few years she has been a paid event guest. Then there's all the royalty money from her singing career and the movies she did (ok, this is meant to be snarky).

2007-06-07 04:56:56 PM
They must not have painted the jail bars to look like penises.

mongbiohazard: Al, take out the "racial" component, add in it's place substitute "elitist class" and we'll be on the same page.

But it's all about race...or Al wouldn't have a job.

2007-06-07 04:58:27 PM
Oh come on, nobody goes to jail for the shiat Paris Hilton did in the first place, they made an example out of her.

It's a rich person manipulating justice for something she should've never been sent to 45 days in jail in the first place.

See? It all balances out. Except for being a mocking display that the rich will overcome whatever "justice" you throw at them.

2007-06-07 05:01:13 PM
Dude O Matic 5000

From what I know of the criminal justice system, most people don't get released from jail after a couple of days because they just can't handle it.

Paris Hilton violated her probation, was told not to do it again, and did. That's why she got sent to jail. While she was in said jail, she decided she didn't like it because it was oh so different from the environment that she's used to and it creeped her out so she got to go home. WTF is that?

I guess we're kind of making progress though. OJ didn't even do a day in jail.

At the end of the day, OJ got off because of police incompetence more than anything else. Fuhrman being caught in perjury and revealed as a racist (and a corrupt cop) cast a shadow of doubt on all the evidence he found, which was the key evidence in the trial.

KaponoFor3: I just got back from my 15th Reunion at Colgate. Lots of my friends are already into their first millions (one of my closer friends/classmates already gave a cool mil to the university). I'm far from it. And I wasn't conscious of it for one damned second. It's all about having some class, decorum, and character.

There's a reason why we only hear about the Parises and Marthas.

2007-06-07 05:05:55 PM
So let me see if I got this straight:

Brave and honorable wounded American veterans get to be treated in piss-poor conditions, and life-endangering, substance-abusing rich c*nts get to break the law and serve time at their 5-star mansions.

/This country is irreversibly f*cked.
//Where is MADD in all this? Anyone heard from them?
