EXCELLENT!!!

This was a case where a substitute teacher was warned not to turn off the computer - and then the kids accessed porn via a website that downloaded a bunch of trojans. Then they blamed HER for the fact that the school did not make sure that the computer was not firewalled or had current and working anti-virus or anti-spyware. They decided to hang her instead.

When I saw pop-up porn, I thought of children's pop-up books and the ensuing thoughts were interesting...

at least the legal system is showing some understand of the technology out there- and not just throwing her to the wolves

good porn always makes something "Pop Up"

The most important question.... is she hot?

From the wiki: Amero was convicted on January 5th, 2007 in Norwich, Connecticut superior court of four counts of risk of injury to a minor, or impairing the morals of a child.

/off to have my morals impaired.

Prosecutors did not oppose that motion Wednesday, saying they sent the computer to a state laboratory after the trial and learned of information that may contradict evidence presented by their computer expert.

I think I see a way to save a step next time.

2007-06-06 06:28:36 PM
the prosecutor is still really trying to railroad her...it's like no one in the courts there ever heard of computers or the intertube thingy or even remotely understands computer security.

2007-06-06 06:29:49 PM
The first question that comes to my mind is why did they wait until after the trial to send the computer to a lab?! And what kind of computer expert is testifying about it without it having been at a lab? What a crock.

The "Teacher Porn" caption on the picture seems a little bit misleading.

Also, thank the maker for a sensible legal system. Maybe this will create a frightening precedent where people think for half a flippin second before convicting people for things that will haunt them for the rest of their lives

Great, now the people working in the schools IT department should have to speak to administrators about the crappy security system they set up. At my job there's no way you can get to most pornsites. All webmail is blocked, and all users only have user privileges, not power user or admin rights.

Although it seems like justice is (slowly) working for this teacher, it's too bad that her teaching career might be finished.

I totally agree - such bullshiat.

The prosecutor needs to be sanctioned by the court. I feel really bad for this woman. That school district is a shame.

The felony charges for which she was originally convicted carry a maximum prison sentence of 40 years.

Do any farkers here know what the stats are like for people who have been fired from their jobs because a corporate spyware program says they were looking at porno, even though they claim they didnt? I dont know anyone as of yet who has had it happen to them, but I am sure it has happened.

It seems that dynamic websites like this one which allows images to be posted could put porno in someones office work station cache / history then be flagged by some type of corporations spy software, if the moderators are not on top of what is being posted.

Anyone knowledgeable about this?

2007-06-06 06:39:49 PM
Almost getting 40 years because the school didn't have a proper IT department installing protection on the computers really makes you think... This is like having a subscription to Playboy.. the mailman drops it in the wrong box, kids get the mail and you get the rump-shunt in prison for 40 years because you ordered the mag and paid for it... crazy crap going on in the judicial system anymore.

Wish the article would say if the "IT Dept" was related to a principle or long-time teacher/board member there.

2007-06-06 06:43:11 PM
What is beyond me is how the police and prosecutor both decided to continue forth with this in light of all the evidence that shows she did most everything she could to stop this and keep the kids away from it. It's absolutely sickening. That and how her stupid-ass defense lawyer didn't get her acquitted in about 30 seconds.

From what I understand, the prosecution's "expert witness" in the case was a police officer who did a little computer work. Brilliant.

This poor woman's life has been turned totally upside down in the name of stupidity, and yet they continue to press forward. Absolutely disgusting.

2007-06-06 06:44:14 PM
So, here's a dumb question, could all the teachers, parents, etc in the world be sued for exposing their children to porn if they have a computer that is connected to the internet? A couple little clicks, and poof! Porn. I'm just asking...

This is another case of a prosecutor caring more about a conviction record than actual justice. There is no excuse for this. The prosecutor, and everyone else who worked to see that this woman was convicted, are corrupt criminal scum who deserve death by slow torture.

That school district is going to be in an awful lot of financial pain when she sues. I bet you her attorney is salivating, and getting his list of people to sue together, nicely.

We complain their are too many frivolous lawsuits, but this one looks to be an epic movie in the making.

The DA is an idiot.

The solution? Get rid of damn computers in the classroom. Back in my day, teachers used a chalkboard. And they had to do it barefoot, in the snow. Both ways. And we liked it that way!

/Im in ur clasrumz, drawin pr0n on ur bordz

Thank God, someone is growing a pair and not just doing the old kneejerk reaction.

The comp in question had no firewall, no anti-virus software of any kind (even the Avast free one). The subscriptions the school system had were expired and not renewed due to cash.

Even the old un-updated software would have done something. I'm sure it was deleted due to nag screens that would have at least warned a substitute about the unprotected comp!

The teacher that opened the browser said to the substitute 'Don't close it down' as she didn't wish to come back and re-boot. The Sub didn't know how to re-boot anyway as didn't receive the password to get things going, again.

The kids opened the web while she stepped out to get a syllabus for the class, or some such. While out the kids downloaded the trojans that hit the comp, is the understanding.

Screw these prosecutors. Use the first sentence I've written on them. Kneejerk to the balls! Then fire them, then put them away for any railroad crap like this.

The public trust is sacred, the dumb ass bastard retards.

It doesn't surprise me anymore. As Dimensio said, its all about conviction records, looking good, and supporting their witch hunt which gives them more power day after day. Combined with a lawyer's ego, its a nasty combination. Gotta protect the children doncha know.

DAs and cops in this story and like the one in Georgia about the kid and the consensual BJ are why I don't trust cops or DAs or the "system" at all. Anyone who ever says "why do they need lawyers if they're innocent?" these days is a first class idiot or so naive they just walked out of a cave/fell off the turnip truck. Its a "Court system" not a "justice system", and its increasingly becoming corrupt at all levels.

2007-06-06 07:36:06 PM
the prosecutors should get 1 year in prison for this.

in the general population, with all the inmates they have convicted.

2007-06-06 07:38:00 PM
This is also another reason why I would never ever teach in public schools.

2007-06-06 07:44:38 PM
My question is what kind of jury convicted her? Did they only use people who don't know what a computer is? The prosecuter needs to present the case (perhaps this should have never seen a courtroom), much like someone needed to defend OJ, but one would think there would be at least one sensible person in a jury to point out how flawed it was.

When it comes to kids. You have to prosecute. Some of the toughest laws for Internet protection are aimed at protecting and children. CIPA and COPPA violations carry stiff penalties and you always have to prosecute.

The problem is that too often, school board officials are useless pieces of scum not fit to breathe the air of this planet.

They are often a bunch of losers who failed to get elected for town council. In my neck of the woods the turn-out for the school board elections are dismal, so we wind up with a lot of these douche bags in power who are more interested in pushing their outdated "Family Values" and "zero tolerance" agenda that getting your kids a decent education. As a matter of fact, I think these weasels actually HATE kids!

The best thing is to GET INVOLVED in your school-board elections and ensure you don't wind up with prissy control-freaks Miss Grundy or Fred Whipple-types running the show.

2007-06-06 09:21:43 PM
Fark hasn't heaved NEARLY enough blame on the defence attorney here. It's inexcusable that the defence didn't have their own expert take a look at the computer if neither the client or attorney knew what was going on. How can you go into a trial not having a clue what actually happenned?
Professional misconduct.

Now if the cop who wants to prosecute an 11 year old for playing with a rubber band gun can just get fired, I'll have more faith in humanity.

Huh?

He should get 40 years--the same as he tried to inflict on her.

Where does the school stand on the issue, have they stuck their heads in the sand? or denied all culpability outright?

Until this woman is free and clear, every substitute teacher in Connecticut would be wise to spill their coffee on the farking computer the second they walk in the classroom.

This is such a gross miscarriage of justice. Every IT person knows this without doing a goddamn authentic forensic analysis - which, of course, they should have done, and didn't - before bringing this to trial. The prosecutor deserves PMITA prison for even making an indictment on this shiatty evidence.

Someone, please, hack his computer, steal his nudie pics of his wife, and then in his divorce proceedings she can ass-rape him daily in court for humiliating her.

This guy isn't qualified to be a mall cop. And to even say that is to give mall cops less than the respect they deserve.

Good grief. What kind of filters do these schools have? I can't even go to the state of Florida's web page or some lesson plan sites, but these people manage to access porn. That's just plain weird in almost all the cases I've seen.

Great, now the people working in the schools IT department should have to speak to administrators about the crappy security system they set up.

It would appear that IT could make recommendations and that their IT folks SHOULD have made them. If they're anything like the school IT department I had to deal with last year they were internet tough guys. The "lead guy" was a bit on the fruity side (ok, flaming) and when the assistant principal asked him about porn he said "it's not an issue because they know they'd have to deal with me". Poor woman almost died trying not to laugh.

Darth:

At my old job we had someone fired for porn. He was a health car tech and at night had little to do so he'd wander around, find a quiet office, logon to the computer (mostly 95/98) then would beat the bishop.

One day one of the staff call me, someone has been using her PC. How can you tell, I ask. "Looks like pubic hair on the keyboard". I think "WTF" then call HR (important step). HR looks, they call one of the docs in who says "that looks like pubic hair". While they're standing there I logon and see his username and the cookies from his session. I print it all then we logon as him and look at the history, holy fark, this guy was at it for a while.

HR talks to his boss, the guy got really nervous and said we couldn't pin it on him. About a week later he's in another office beating the bishop when one of the security folks walks in and catches him with his pants down to his knees. That was the end for him, he quit before his boss could fire him.
