(Atlanta Journal Constitution)   Remember the kid in Alabama who killed a half ton wild boar with a handgun? Turns out it was a farm pig named Fred, "hunted" in his pen   (ajc.com) divider line 327

"Did you see that pig on TV?" Phil Blissitt recalled Howell asking him. "I said, 'Yeah, I had one about that size.' He said, 'No, that one is yours.'

"That's when I knew."

Mr Blissitt is on very much on top of things.

Sounds like one of Dick Cheney's hunts. At least the kid didn't shoot someone in the face.

We won't know that until the DC Madam's phone list is revealed...

The big boar was hunted inside a large, low-fence enclosure and fired upon 16 times by Stone, who struck the animal nearly a half-dozen times during the three-hour hunt.

Good lord. That's just sad.

Watchman: Good lord. That's just sad.

No kidding, 3 hours with a .50 pisolt and the little farkstick could barely kill the big ol' farm pig. What a loser. The bacon is probably too contaminated to be useful now.

Where's the Pathetic tag? Even if they thought it was a feral hog... it was in a farking PEN.

how do you not notice someone shooting your 1,000 lb pig 16 times?

That part sounds like a Ray Stevens song.

Poor Fred. I can't believe it isn't illegal to "hunt" an enclosed pet. I know it is Alabama, but still. I don't think I could go chase my dog around the yard and shoot him 6 times without going to jail.

It wasn't on a farm, it was on a "game preserve".

I'm guessing it's one of those places people take their kids or their little fairy selves to to have some sort of passage to manhood.

I would not be at all surprised if that poor piggy was shot each time from a treestand overlooking one of their timed and automated feeders.

That pig was old and only really good for sausage though. I hope it was a clean shot, but it really doesn't sound like it.

The monster hog gained worldwide acclaim after he was harvested by 11-year-old Jamison Stone

By harvested they mean "shot by some fat kid while the pig was looking away."

Real men hunt with bows, damnit!

Arrows, sometimes. But I prefer to garrote my targets with bows.

One would think that a person who raised a pig from suckling to 1/2 ton humongous hog would recognize said critter's carcass when it showed on the TV.

Wild boar are notoriously nasty and fairly hard to kill, but I don't see any justification in placing an animal in a pen so one can take potshots at it.

2007-06-01 04:15:35 PM
HulkHands--Bows, spears, knives...I'm all for making modern camouflage and compound bows illegal in hunting. You should have to run through the underbrush with only a loincloth and cold mud, gripping a stone knife in your teeth and a bow on your back, and high as a kite on some wicked mushroom, to kill dinner. It evens out the field. It gets you in shape. And I am sure it is a hell of a lot more exhilarating.

How farked up. I grew up in rural Ohio and knew lots of hunters who would be sickened by this as well. Thats not sport...that is cruelty plain and simple. Can you even imagine the noise that pig must have made...FOR HOURS?

Nah, deer and prey animals need to be hunted or they will overpopulate. Now, Trophy hunters make me sick. They shoot a bear the size of a dog from 100yds away and think they are big men. I propose hand held weapons only. Take that bear or mountain lion on with a katana. NOW, I'll be impressed. Till then, I think they are pussies.

How about if you shoot it you eat it... And you don't get to keep its head.

Hand gun hunting would only lead to lots of wounded animals running around dieing a slow death.

"...their stories painted the picture of a gentle giant. They even talked about how their small Chihuahua would get in the pen with him and come out unscathed."

That's kind of sad. The animal that the little redneck brat was so proud of killing was a pet?

My bad. I actually meant hand weapons, like spears, swords, flails, battleaxes, exc.

Face that bear one on one. Up close and personal. Shooting a predator from a distance, then thinking you are a badass, makes me sick. I have told my friends who have done this I think less of them as men.

Prey animals for meat? Fire at will. Gots to eat.

That's "dying," Ryan.

This story is disgusting on every level.

Poor farking pig. Rotten farking kid.

Like Tony Kornheiser said when a guest was strongly asserting that quail hunting is a sport, "When the quail gets to fire back, with a reasonable expectation of hurting or killing the hunter, THEN it's a sport...it's not a sport."

And, what Thamike said.

I occasionally hunt dear with a rifle, it isn't that easy, but shooting an animal in a pen is pretty cheesy...

Headso, I sometimes hunt honey, darling, hoochie-mama, sweetcheeks, and babycakes, too.

2007-06-01 05:56:21 PM
Some tough guy killed my father's pet deer - in it's pen - when pops was a kid.
The miners that worked with the guy tormented him mercilessly until his death.
To be fair, the guy was poor and trying to feed his family. But it didn't excuse the fact that he called the dear over to him and slit it's throat with a knife.
Hunting pets in a pen isn't manly regardless of the weapon, or hunter's attire. And people have long memories for things like this.
/Poor Fred; the pig is dead. Kid was a hero; but forever more a zero.

/for one thing, I have 3 penises

Ugh... and to think I was disgusted before.

Amen, thamike.

2007-06-01 06:27:00 PM
The headline was misleading. The pig wasn't in a pen while it was being hunted/shot. It was on enclosed , wooded hunting grounds. You can still make an argument that that is wrong as well, but some seem to be misinterpreting this as the pig was in a cage being shot to death.

2007-06-01 06:27:30 PM
Mike Stone, Jamison's father, contends that he was unaware of the origin of the pig. Before, during and after the hunt - and until late Thursday night, when contacted by The Star - Mike Stone was under the impression that the hog was feral.

"We were told that it was a feral hog," Mike Stone said, "and we hunted it on the pretense that it was a feral hog."

how far away was the pen from the farm with a bunch of hogs on it?

Just sick on every conceivable level.

I guess the real question is now "Did the kid deserve all the hate mail he got?"
