I cannot take that seriously.

Anyhow, your wild religious ways should not be catered to in any form. Adhere to the company rules or take your stupid ideals and GTFO.

It's hard to keep pants on bus drivers these days.

2007-05-31 03:07:35 PM
My guess is that the requirement is there because a bus driver has to be able to do mechanical work or safety-related things - help people off the bus, secure the bus in case of an accident, etc., and a skirt would compromise her ability to do those things.
It would be like a firefighter saying she has the "right" to wear a skirt into a burning building because of religion. No, she doesn't, if it interferes with her job or her potential to do her job.

And Earth Times is not anywhere close to unbiased. It is poorly written drivel.

FTA: A bus driver of the Pentecostal faith said she may sue the New York Transit Association for firing her just because she refused to wear pants.

Editorialize much?

She was driving the bus in her underwear?

I guess she can't run my household.

I was thinking she might have a chance in a lawsuit, but you changed my mind.

There's probably more to the story; there always is. But the same thing goes here as goes for the Muslim cashiers/cabbies - if you can't fulfill the job requirements, don't take the job.

I think you were right the first time. This is silly enough to be worth a few million in pain or suffering or some such nonsense.

I don't think her owner would let her out of the kitchen, would he?

I call BS on the bus company.

She should be allowed to wear a skirt.

/scots beat back the english wearing skirts. Wearing a skirt will not impact her ability to drive a bus.

Are burkas or Muslim Man Dresses allowed?

1. There are Pentacostals in New York? I thought it was just my region of Southeast Texas/Southwest Louisiana that was infested with them. The more ya know...

2. It's 2007. Get over your Bronze Age superstitions about what clothes you wear and how long your hair is.

3. It's 2007. We're still having court cases about religious habits interfering with work restrictions after 218 years under the same Constitution? How is this possible?

4. My family converted to Pentacostalitis a couple years ago. /shudder

2007-05-31 04:39:26 PM
I know 2 women who don't own pants, they'd be in trouble.

2007-05-31 04:39:55 PM

RabidCanary Photo of the bus driver.

Sure! It's black and has crosses on it...

Haven't we covered this before in the "I'm a pharmacist and against birth control" discussions? It's not that difficult. There are thousands of jobs where your religious affiliation would have zero effect on your ability to follow the rules of that profession. No one is forcing you to be a bus driver. Choose a job that doesn't have any requirements which conflict with your religion and STFU.

/And by the way, is that church competing in some sort of contest to see which religious institution can be taken least seriously based on name alone? They can't shorten "Holy Ghost Headquarters Prayer Band Mission of New Beginning Deliverance Church"? Or at least refer to it as HGHPBMNBDC? That's easy to remember.

What's she doing working a job to start with? Don't those pentecostal people generally keep their 2nd class women folk where they belong? (cooking, cleaning, and raising children in the home. Just like the bible says)

Yep, I hate wearing pants to work too.

2007-05-31 04:43:11 PM
Why aren't they allowed to wear pants? I don't remember seeing anything in the bible about this.

2007-05-31 04:43:14 PM
Couple things...was she aware when she was hired that pants were the required uniform? If so, then she needs to stfu.

If not, then as long as the bus company made reasonable accommodation to her (offering that she could wear culottes) then she should also stfu.

2007-05-31 04:45:13 PM
Why does Jesus hate pants??

/one would think it would be MORE modest to wear pants
//God must like up skirt shots

Next thing ya know muslim cab drivers won't be allowed to wear suicide vests.

2007-05-31 04:46:00 PM
1. I am against these kind of laws, but if they are going to be enforced, enforce them evenly.

2. Drivers do NOT do maintenance. That's a whole different union.

3. I don't see a problem with this.

They interpret a mention in the bible about a woman should not wear the cloths of a man as pants even though no one in the area wore pants at the time.
Lets you know how accurate their other beliefs are.

I am sure the folks who defended the muslim woman in Florida's right to wear a veil will jump right in on this one.....

Cosmic Crab,

Oops, wrong pic. I got my hottie and Pentecostal folders mixed up.

no one should have to wear culottes.

That is cruel and unusual punishment.

2007-05-31 04:48:56 PM
My opinion on this:

I know most of you Farkers are atheists, and think of yourselves as superior to people of faith, so you don't understand how much it means to some people. Anyways, I believe you have the right to wear your religious clothing on the job even if it is against uniform AS LONG as it doesn't violate any safety concerns. If the employer feels it is a safety concern, either wear the uniform or find another job.

Maybe if the employer is nice, they could have you sign a waiver that if your religious attire does get you injured, you cannot sue for damages. However this would be optional and totally up to the employer's discretion, so you could not sue if they offered it to someone else but not to you.

Fair enough compromise???

/religious, but not ultra religious

They just won't give her any slacks.
This article skirts the real issue, who really wears the pants in the New York Transit Authority.
This decision is arbitrary and capri-tious.
This comment should kilt this thread.
