Ants are amazing, and hate being sprayed with Raid.

I can think of a few other demographics that would best be used to fill potholes...

How about filling the potholes with libertarians since they don't believe in public highways or taxes.

Using the homeless to fill potholes are all fine and well.
But, I still think the Irish are best used to fill Pot Pies
They go well with potatoes and a Guinness gravy.

Oy. The ignorance is strong in this one.

When it comes to rapid road repairs, the ants have their own do-it-yourself highways agency

I wish my city would contract with ants to fix the potholes.

It's a little inconsistent to claim "all libertarians want roads with potholes and no taxes", act offended when I call that statement ignorant, and then challenge me to speak for myself.

Minimal government bureaucracy

Correct. To some libertarians this means privatized roads and no taxes, though not to all. Not by a long shot. Neither has anything to do with poor road quality, either.

The Libertarian Party

Which encompasses a small portion of libertarians. The LP is not anti-tax, either. If I recall correctly their stated position is minimal taxes combined with minimal government, which in some situations might lead to no taxes, but the LP isn't an organization that is opposed to all taxes as a general rule. Though certainly there are some libertarians who think that.

should be limited to the protection of individual rights from the initiation of force and fraud.

Correct. That's the 'moral' libertarian position, which is held by some, notably LP members. Other libertarians believe in smaller government for pragmatic reasons- which does not exclude things like roads or taxes. They just think limited government 'works' better. Most libertarians are a blend of the two.

To sput off in a thread some absurd claim about why you hate libertarians, and then act offended when someone calls you ignorant of what libertarianism actually is, is, to put it bluntly, stupid. Not to mention the fact that your crude and ignorant remark was in a thread about something completely unrelated.

CE: Asphalt.

Love the headline, subby! Bravo.

Actually, I think the government using people to fill potholes to bolster the traffic infrastructure actually IS a cause for nervousness, in a post 9-11 world or not.

/just don't try to lure the hobos into the holes with 2$ bills...

Didn't they already do this with the remains of 9/11 victims in NYC?

2007-05-29 08:24:28 PM
we should just cash our tax dollars into singles and use them to fill the potholes. i'd bet it's more efficient than paying road workers to fill 'em with asphalt

Damn lazy pothole filling ants. Didn't the article say that they just lay in the hole while all the other ants march off to work? When the others go back to the nest, they follow? But I guess we could do the same with those of our own that don't want to work. At least they would provide some usefulness.

2007-05-29 09:03:53 PM
Hell, all we'd need to do is just toss a bottle of Maddog 20/20 in every pot hole, and the homeless would jump in themselves.

Thats a good idea. Once you get past the infant stage, or maybe toddlers, the meat is too stringy and tough for most tastes, eaving us with poor people who are too old to eat. Filling potholes is a nice community service they can perform.
