Write in 'Jedi', you will, yessss, hrmmmmmmm

I don't see the difference between Jedi and any other religion out there. Well, I guess Jedi doesn't take your money with a lot of empty promises and death threats.

Obi Wan was just another prophet....

2002-08-27 08:50:22 AM
Meshman, you don't think Jedi worshipers blow huge cash on brown robes to prance around in or plastic toys to whack each other with? As for empty promises, I believe I heard George Lucas claim that Episode II would "not lick a sweaty pair of donkey balls". There's an empty promise for you.

Sad sods. I bet those who did are the kind of saddo geeks who recite Monty Python sketches. Now, on the other Star Trek...

The same thing happened here in the UK (I have to confess that I was one of the people that did this), so it is now an official religion here also. Now I just have to get myself ordained online and then I can start legally exercising the force.

legally exercising the force

sounds like something you do while looking at boobies links eh?

Boobies? Pron? A jedi craves not these things.

I also wrote Jedi, here in England, also on pain of getting taken to court. As I recall, one person was as well. But 70,000 people wrote Jedi in .au and the gubmint called them 'undefined'? That must be what happens whenever you petition your local congressman/member of Parliament with a few tens of thousands of signatures and they don't like what they read.

Welcome to the real world.

How do they know these people aren't really Jedi? I've seen Aussies throwing bent sticks away, just to have them fly back into their hands. That's a Jedi trick if I ever saw one.

2002-08-27 09:11:24 AM
Luke:I want to learn the ways of the Force and become a Jedi like my father.
Ben: Just fill in this form.

The force is strong with the Aussies.

I had a conversation some time ago with an AVID Star Wars fan comparing the zeal of his fandom with the zealotry of Scientology. He wasn't amused.

The similarities are there in any case. If Lucas was as psychoticly ambitious as Hubbard was he would have surpassed that collection of loons (Scientologists) long ago.

All Lucas has to do now is announce that the stories are based on true events and I don't doubt that thousands would believe him. Just throw an "It was communicated to me through the force." spin on it and watch the followers and the rest of their moolah roll in.

Hee hee - if you had some cash, you could probably sue the snot out of them for not taking your religion seriously.

I was in Australia at the time they forced us to filled out the census forms. Every university student was forced to fill this boring-ass thing out, including the study-abroad students, so their information can't be that accurate. We weren't a dorm completely full of losers, but everyone I talked to filled out "jedi," including myself, even though I am not a huge star wars fan. I was just pissed at having to spend valuable drinking time filling this stupid thing out!!

2002-08-27 09:26:54 AM
We surrender! Call of your unwashed horde of plastic, lightsaber wielding fanboys... er... I mean, Jedi!

2002-08-27 09:29:45 AM
Only barely amusing, and not really original. Now, if a few thousand people put down "Kram" (spelling?), then I'm impressed. (Donut to the first person to get it.)

2002-08-27 09:31:44 AM
It seems old jokes die hard. Reporters are also rolling out that old chestnut that people might be fined for doing this. Yawwwwwwwwwn.

BTW, my religion is much more fun. Keep it in mind for the next census that comes your way:
;o)

Nah, if ever there was a time to use the "Protestant Other" religious preference the military has, this would be it.

They tried this in the UK too, but some rumour surfaced that it would actually be illegal to give "false information" on the form. Later, after the close date, it did emerge that the optional items such as religion aren't actually covered by the same rules and Jedi could have been mentioned.

I think a fair number of people did put down Jedi and it did emerge as a common enough option to get a separate entry for next census, rather than be grouped under "other".

2002-08-27 10:00:48 AM
wow now we can start tracking dorks down under.

2002-08-27 10:01:30 AM
If this starts showing up on government forms as an option under religion, maybe Lucas ought to think about claiming tax exempt status.

Next round: Discordian.

2002-08-27 10:09:37 AM
I dont know if thats "scary" or "obvious"--Australians are wacky, but good Lord, at least claim to be a Lensman or elf, dignity people!

Farking Lucas, Some Jedi, what 85% of em got waxed at that droid factory? And Yoda didnt beat Dooku, the old bastard pulled the ol' exit stage right routine and rolled out.
I miss Thundar, he could take on those Jedi all by himself and Ookla could help too, until he got wet. Then he could get Teela's top wet and they could tag team her...wait. Nevermind.

"I find your lack of faith.....disturbing...

2002-08-27 10:11:47 AM
"it seems as though Flignir got you on that one!"

It seems that way. My point was, everyone comments about how nuts these people are, yet those that believe in 'real' invisible deities are somehow righteous?

Its ironic how you're supposed to believe and worship God yet anyone who claims to have spoken to it is considered 'not all there'.

It's also ironic how anyone who believes in UFO's, bigfoots, etc. are nuts because their proof is questionable at best, yet the devoutly religious are absolutely in fact, correct about their own bigfoots.

*shakes head*
