..served more than three decades in the United States Army Reserve, retiring in 1993 as a major general.

But was he the very model of a modern major general? And since he's a Bush science appointee I guess it's safe to assume that he completely rejects the Theory of Evolution and all forms of modern birth control.

Can't comment now, I'm "firing the surgeon general." :)

"As America's chief health educator, he will be charged with providing the best scientific information available...'' Bush said in a statement.

Just as long as that "scientific information" in no way conflicts with the teachings of the bible, the advancement of the Republican Party or the interests of major oil companies.

You guys can say Duke sucks as much as you want but I bet 99.9% of farkers wouldn't be able to get into Duke med school considering it is one of the top ten in the nation.

Asbury is in Wilmore, Kentucky, about 30 minutes outside of Lexington. It is considered a Methodist college, but people from many denominations go there. For a christian university, it is rather liberal. For example, most people I know from there see no problems in subscribing to both evolution and creationism. OH, and they absoutely love CS Lewis.

Oh great, another Bush appointee with no skills other than giving Bush a knobjob.

The guy is a farking cardiologist, a retired major general who got his MD from a top 10 medical school - I'm willing to bet hes about a 10 times more qualified than most doctors - and about 10 brazillion times more qualified to make these decisions than you are.

But thank you for responding almost exactly as I would expect 35-40% of farkers to respond - you do NOT disappoint.

I don't know about you, but I don't give a give 2 shiats if my doctor can play the violin or has traveled to some impoverished nation to volunteer. Schools like Duke and Johns Hopkins seem to think that things like that have something to do with being a doctor.

Oh, come off it, already. Look who's backing him. Friend, if a man in Vegas comes up to you on the street and bets you he can pick the Ace of Spades out of an unwrapped deck of cards he just happens to have in his pocket, do not bet that man.

You apparently need that advice.

There's reprehensible guilt-by-association, and then there's the nice family dog whose references are all rabid gutter mongrels with open sores and human hair caught in their teeth. Be more cynical.

More importantly, he's probably got more common sense than Bush.

Hmm, he appears to be a former member of the board of the Confessing Movement within the United Methodist Church. From what I can find, they think the Methodists are too liberal and want to move them in a conservative direction. http://confessingumc.org/ for details.

Learn something every day. I had no idea there were Fundy Methodists.

Schools like Duke and Johns Hopkins also only look at applicants with the highest numbers for GPA and MCAT. Only after going through their screen do they look at what else you did. Theres a reason why graduates from these med schools often end up being the top in whatever field they decide to go to.

As typical on Fark, no matter how qualified a person, people will shoot him down if he has any connection to Bush. Yes, most of the people Bush takes in seem to be hacks but this guy actually has some credentials. However, only time will tell if he is another scumbag with a religous/political agenda.

Usually I would say this is incredibly unfair to judge a man by who gave him the job. But after 6 years of Bush, it is 90% likely that you are right.

2007-05-25 10:17:38 PM
I know him...he's a good person and will do a great job. He walked up the stairs to his office each day instead of taking the elevator like every other state government worker. So he practices what he preaches.

That resume sounds impressive but how much of it is accurate or only half truths?

The guy Bush appointed to handle family planning for HHS, had failed to keep up his medical license, failed to keep up his board certification and stopped paying his dues to all the professional organizations an OB GYN normally belongs to. He also wasn't the director of the crisis pregnancy centers like his resume said, he was a part time volunteer there. When people started investigating his resume they found that he only actually held a valid license for about 5 years and didn't really work anywhere during that time.

Call me when an independent 3rd party has verified this guys credentials.

....and about 10 brazillion times more qualified to make these decisions than you are...

.... with, by simple deduction, means that the average farker is about 1000 brazillion times more qualified than Bush for anything....

President Bush has picked a Kentucky cardiologist who is interested in fighting childhood obesity to be the nation's next surgeon general, the White House announced on Thursday.

Sure he says that now, but we all know that George Bush doesn't care about fat people.

No they don't often end up there. You just happen to notice a select few schools. In fact it's not that often at all. A larger number from those schools end up going into the business/administrative fields in the medical profession.

You will probably find more graduates from Iowa soaring in their field, a real field that is based only on care.

Like most people these days, it's probably sitting in front of the computer.
