I don't remember my teachers' sexual orientation being mentioned in the classroom. WTF does it matter if you're hetero or homo!?

Oh noes! Mr. Smith taught my little Timmy trigonometry and now he's caught teh ghey!

Farking ridiculous. 28% you say? I smell correlation, if you know what I mean.

I remember teachers who were as flaming as it gets and nobody said boo about it. This is rural and small-town Indiana in the 70s and 80s. People need a boogeyman.

I remember an 8th grade teacher who was pretty ambiguous. The jokes were pretty awful, as 8th graders are wont to be.

But based on the news, I'm a lot more fearful of the straight teachers. Especially the wimminz.

Diogenes I don't remember my teachers' sexual orientation being mentioned in the classroom.

I only remember one teacher's orientation being talked about in school. And that was because she was the adviser for the GSA club, so she was obviously pretty open about it in the meetings. And I never heard anyone ever badmouthin her about it, she was a pretty cool teacher. Doesn't matter if she liked teh boobs instead of teh peener.

I'm more disappointed that 1/3 of Americans are still so bigoted as to think that a person's fitness to teach children is based on the gender to which he/she is attracted.

We should be better than this.

Are they playin with each others whohadilly in the classroom? Are the straight teachers? Then what does it matter?

Let me guess, the other 1/3rd will be manning the ovens, right?

It seemed like every school I was in had a gym teacher who was rumoured to be hitting for the other team. Interestingly enough, the hetero's are much more actively banging their students.

2007-05-25 02:48:39 PM
Only because there are more of them.
Same % of total, probably.

We should be better than this.

"We" are better than that. It's "they" that cause the problem.

[O]nly 28% of respondents agreed that school boards should have the right to fire teachers who are known to be homosexual ...

If this poll were conducted in Alabama only, I'm certain the percentage for firing gay teachers would approach 75%.

\Alabama: It's easier to buy handguns here than sex toys.

wyltoknow: What I really meant is that it was never a topic of conversation in the classroom setting. Sure, kids can be cruel, and rumors, gossip and whatnot are always going to occur. But my straight teachers never talked about banging their wives and husbands in the classroom. Homo or hetero, that would be inappropriate. So orientation is -- or at least should be -- irrelevant in that context.

Shiat, curriculums are so restricted because of standardized testing, you couldn't slip in a homo "agenda" item if you wanted to.

Thank god there is nothing else wrong with our schools so we can focus on the sexual orientation of the teachers.

So 1/3 of Americans believe that music and phy. ed. shouldn't be taught in school?

2007-05-25 03:19:52 PM
So where does that leave gym teachers?

2007-05-25 03:20:39 PM
Ridiculous. One of the best teachers I've ever had is gay. It seemsl ike this is just the product of propaganda.

2007-05-25 03:21:51 PM
Let 'em teach. Hell, let 'em do whatever they want, like get married, adopt kids, whatever. The one thing people seem to forget above all things is that homosexuals are human beings, too. Being gay doesn't make you any less human.

It's time we started treating gay people less like gay people and more like people people...

Every time a news story comes out about a teachers background (posed for Playboy, etc) and someone says "well, I certainly wouldn't want them teaching MY kid!", I say "yeah? What do your kids teachers do in their off time? What are their hobbies?

I usually get a blank stare in response.

True that. Small-town Kansas, in my case.

I never realized it was an issue, either. But, I went to a Catholic school, so all of my teachers were obviously straight (riiiight) or they wouldnt have been allowed to teach there. I dont know why it would matter as long as their focus is on the student. Lord knows kids need all the help learning that they can get, no matter who it is from! Kids arent looking to teachers for moral guidance anyways, thats what they look to their friends for.

Doesn't that number almost exactly match Bush's current approval rating?

You can thank people like Falwell and his sheep for this kind of thinking.

Call them on it, though, and suddenly you're the one who's "intolerant."

2007-05-25 03:28:49 PM
Right. This is an editorial from this morning's newspaper and l'm quoting directly from it. l'll just read the last sentence: ''And let us make certain that these sexual deviates are never allowed inside a classroom again.'' That's wrong. First, they were busted for what they were doing 15 miles away from the school. What's more important is what came out at the trial is that they're good teachers. And do you know how long it takes to make a good teacher? l'll tell you something else. There wasn't one incident reported where a kid came home and said ''We had five minutes of geography, 10 minutes of cocksucking.''

My scene design teacher in college was out. One day we were painting a set, and I started asking him questions about his life style. Without trying to look too intereseted. He asked me if I'd like to hear a gay joke, and naturally I said "yes." The following ensued.

"What's the difference between a woman and a bowling ball?"

"I dunno, what?"

"If you REALLY had to, you could probably eat a bowling ball."

"I don't get it."

"Then tell your mom to relax."

... to teach school

i took maths and science but i never took that subject.

/ shouldnt it be 'to teach in school?"

2007-05-25 03:30:57 PM
I guess it's OK to have gay high school teachers. I've also got no problem with gay college professors. However, it's probably unwise to allow children to be exposed to gay rhetoricoontil they're old enough to know right from wrong.

2007-05-25 03:32:28 PM
Why are we even questioning what certain people can or can't do in the first people?

Do gays exist?
Are they people?
Do they pay taxes?
Are they required to follow all the same laws that everyone else does?

Why do we consider prohibiting them?

I do however prohibit gays from my ass.

2007-05-25 03:33:46 PM
Internet:

Right from wrong? Funny...I don't see how right vs. wrong plays into this discussion, aside from it's "wrong" to fire someone based on their sexuality.

Not trolling / flaming...just sayin'

As someone who just graduated from high school today, I think i can say with a reasonable degree of certainty that well over half of all high school students don't know right from wrong. Also, right and wrong has jack shiat to do with heterosexuality and homosexuality

2007-05-25 03:35:13 PM
I think only heterosexual should be allowed to teach because we know they would never ever ever have sex with their students.

2007-05-25 03:36:07 PM
Sorry about my last post. The filters got it. "rhetoricoontil" should have been "rhetoric" followed by "until".

2007-05-25 03:37:30 PM
Duh. They are recruiting young people to turn gay because they can't reproduce the way God intended.

2007-05-25 03:37:56 PM
Okay, but, what's "gay rhetoric"? To reference an earlier post, what's the difference with how a gay man / woman teaches trig., and how a straight man / woman does?

When I was in high school in the early 90's in southwestern Michigan, a very conservative and religious area, and we had a gay English teacher. There was a little controversy around his employment. The school's stance on it was "He's a good teacher. He's staying." and it seemed most of the community supported that decision as well. And remarkably enough, he was a good teacher as I found out when I took one of his classes.

Unfortunately, the school went from that to banning the Harry Potter books because they promote witchcraft...

How do you work gay rhetoric into multiplication tables and spelling test?

2007-05-25 03:50:17 PM
This argument, whenever it comes up (and living nearabouts the buckle of the bible belt, it comes up often) always strikes me as ludicrous.

If you're of the (correct) camp that believes sexuality is determined from birth, then to say homosexuals shouldn't be teachers is EXACTLY the same as saying only black / white people or men / women should be teachers. Conversely, if you're under the (ridiculously moronic) impression that it's a choice, then the logical extension is to say that only Christians / atheists or Democrats / Republicans should be teachers.

Any way you shake it, the anti-gay-teacher argument just doesn't hold water.

2007-05-25 03:51:43 PM
That means 1/3 find it unacceptable? WTF is wrong with people?

2007-05-25 03:53:37 PM
I had a gay teacher in high school. He was probably the best teacher there too. And the really amazing thing is that we all knew he was gay, but it was so unimportant that we didn't even talk about it at all. Pretty startling, huh?
