I stopped caring about this farking sequel 10 years ago.

2007-05-25 11:12:48 AM
Sorry I'm only prepared to work on Rise of the Triad and/or Crystal Caves sequels.

2007-05-25 12:05:29 PM
It has to be an inside joke in the industry. No company would be this stupid.

2007-05-25 01:15:47 PM
One of these days this game will be released and you'll all be laughing out the other side of your faces.

/not the regular side...but the other side.

mediaho: A decade of industry experience with no published titles to show for it?

What company would that be?

2007-05-25 01:30:15 PM
Not the company, the project; I'm replying to the headline. The company doesn't fare much better, though.

2007-05-25 01:36:12 PM
The company who is "developing" DNF posts a job listing that doesn't mention DNF whatsoever and this is interesting because....?

2007-05-25 01:37:28 PM
The title of that game was prophetic.

2007-05-25 01:38:16 PM
balthan: this is interesting because....?

Not really interesting, just kind of sad and pathetic. The pic is from DNF which indicates that the open position would be involved in that project.

2007-05-25 01:42:39 PM
Who the fark wrote that "Overview"? Terrible, they should hire someone that can write in English.

2007-05-25 01:48:24 PM
balthan: DNF

I find it slightly humorous that the initials for this game also mean "Did Not Finish" in racing.

2007-05-25 01:48:53 PM
Groovy....

2007-05-25 01:50:14 PM
That must be the best job ever. Just sit on your ass all day playing video games, eating garbage food all day and getting paid out the @ss for it

2007-05-25 01:54:41 PM
I plan on being a talented game programmer 15 years from now, I think I'll go ahead and apply.

2007-05-25 01:55:53 PM
This game will be released when marijuana gets legalized.

/and it'll be an awesome combination

2007-05-25 02:01:37 PM
How is that company still in business? I mean who is paying them?

2007-05-25 02:10:39 PM
You sit on your ass all day, waiting for Chinese Democracy to come out so you have a soundtrack to your game.

2007-05-25 02:24:17 PM
MTV Killed the Punk Rock Star

The title of that game was prophetic.

FTW

I think this game won the record for vaporware.

You have GOT to be kidding me.

tankdilla: How is that company still in business? I mean who is paying them?

everyone who bought Prey, Max Payne, and re-releases of duke 3D.

2007-05-25 03:16:06 PM
I'm up for the job designing the cover art for Chinese Democracy, so I can't apply for this one, unfortunately.

2007-05-25 03:30:55 PM
* Shipped game experience a plus.

LOL

2007-05-25 03:37:06 PM
People said the same thing about Starcraft 2. Eventually someone will make the sequel.

/still waiting on a sequel to American McGee's Alice :( .

2007-05-25 03:42:15 PM
Miyamoto's Law:

"A delayed game is eventually good; a bad game is bad forever."

So at this rate, Duke Nukem Forever is slated to be the video game that will redefine and raise the bar for the entire gaming industry.

2007-05-25 04:16:35 PM
Lehk beat me to it. 3D Realms is pretty much funded by sales of Prey, the Max Payne games, and all the Duke spinoff games (the Game Boy games, Manhattan Project, etc.) that came out since DN3D.

And go try out the High Resolution Pack if you have a copy of the original Duke3D and a relatively modern PC. Makes it look very nice.

2007-05-25 04:17:00 PM
No Commander Keen sequels?

2007-05-25 04:22:04 PM
I saw this over at slashdot and hardocp, just reading the comments on this is farking halarious, some really really funny people in the world.

LostPharaoh

Don't hold your breath for McGee. His last few titles have been dungpiles, which makes me question how much actual influence he had on how good Alice was.

As for Starcraft 2, the initial screenshots look sweet. Good on Blizzard for finally announcing a non-WOW venture. I can't wait to play it.

lol.

cpux: Miyamoto's Law:

Counterpoint - Daikatana. Delaying a game too long will see it outdated upon release, with its novelties borrowed or discovered and adopted by other games during the long development and the core technologies used to run the game underpowered and thus unable to deliver compared to other games in the genre. This is actually why DNF has had to scrap its entire code and sprite base and start over from scratch repeatedly, sinking any sort of marketability for the game due to bad press and information fatigue. Most people who loved Duke Nukem 3D will probably avoid DNF like the plague simply due to having heard that it has been in a state of continual stillbirth for essentially a decade.

Duke Nukem Whenever

2007-05-25 06:56:27 PM
You know, in my day, we didn't have the world wiggity wide web or whatever you kids are calling it these days. We griped about the slow release of Duke Nukem Forever on newsgroups. It was entirely text based. And we didn't have these dancing, graphic emoticons like you kids have today. We made our emoticons out of text on our keyboards. And we made them up as we went along. Why, I remember the first time I saw someone use a winking emoticon with its tongue out, I damn near laughed out loud for four minutes. And we didn't say "lol" back then, so I had to type out that the thing had made me actually laugh out loud it was so funny.
And the people on those newsgroups. Half of them were openly trading child pornography. This was back in the days when typing any word or phrase into a search engine would produce at least 4 results advertising pornography. The other half of people were always a bunch of rude ignorant farkers who would copy and paste whatever email of 1001 knock knock jokes had just been e-mailed to them, along with the 200 e-mail addresses at the top, and then type in all caps like an ignorant shouting doofus. HI. I JUST BOUGHT A COMPUTER. I HOPE THIS WORKS. HERE ARE SOME FUNNY JOKES MY COWORKERS SENT ME. THEY ARE SO FUNNY. DOES ANYONE KNOW WHERE I CAN FIND SOME CHILD PORNOGRAPHY?

But that was the internet we had, and we liked it. Hell, we thought it was the wave of the future. Not like you kids, with your web cams and your flash games and your youtubes. Bah! We had shiat, and we still biatched about Duke Nukem Forever taking forever. That's what we called it: Duke Nukem Taking Forever. And even then, the joke was old.

I need a nap.

2007-05-25 06:58:12 PM
I'll still buy the game.

2007-05-25 07:06:11 PM
Never had "layoff's", and apparently no punctuation checking.

I think PCGAMER next month is having an article on it.

I submitted an article about this with an ironic tag.

Wow! you get to share in game profits. They might as well promise you ONE MILLION DOLLARS per shipped game!

/Wait, all you can eat?

2007-05-26 12:35:03 AM
They are trying to hype it up like the original star wars prequel. Duke is even going to have a new side kick named Bar Bar Jinks.

2007-05-26 05:32:00 AM
If it isn't obvious enough...DNF is just a joke/publicity stunt by 3dRealms. This is a company that is clearly capable of spitting out products. They're laughing at you, not with you.
